Though on the other hand, if there is a Walking Dead reddit out there I haven't heard of it getting turned into a subreddit for another show out of pure hatred like the Arrow subreddit did. So that means something.

I personally doubt one or two bludgeonings is going to, or even should make someone who dislikes the show up to this point - all the walking around and talk about "comin back from thangs" - suddenly start liking the show.

[up] Plus, there's something I don't get. Why did Negan respond to Daryl's outburst by killing Glenn? Wouldn't it have made more sense to kill, you know, Daryl?

oh i can explain that easily!

Negans the kind of asshole who would kill someone else instead of the idiot who punched him in order to make said idiot feel guilt for the death of another person. Also Maggies never going to forgive daryl for this so its a brucie bonus for negan

After numerous times trying to get into this show, but not being able due to not liking any of the characters, after watching last night's episode to see what all the fuss was about... I have found one. Technically two, counting Lucille.

Fuck yeah Negan!

I'm too invested in the lives of these characters to stop watching now. I'm all in.

I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting Agency

[up] What's really frightening at this point is that there aren't that many (old) characters left. Not including the Alexandrians, the number of characters to cling onto since the first three seasons is low. Dangerously low.

I still do care about everyone, but fuck. This shit is serious now.

[down] Also Morgan. But yes, that's disturbing low. Out of everyone from the first four seasons, there are only eleven survivors still alive, one of whom is currently MIA.

Down to Rick, Carl, Daryl, and Carol now.

And that's still better than the comic book cast.

Damn, that episode, it..... really affected me. As far as I'm concerned, the utter sadness and horror {As well as Negan still being entertaining as per usual} in the S7 Primier totally made up for the 6 months-long cliffhanger. Plus, Abraham's last words and his Defiant to the End attitude were fantastic too. He really did "Take it like a champ".

Also, as much as I usually love Daryl, I won't lie, I'm pretty pissed off at him right now. I get it, he just saw one of his close friends get brutally murdered by an asshole and was seeing said asshole rub that fact in Rosita's face. But punching Negan in the face just made an already horrible situation even worse and got poor Glenn brutally murdered. I honestly won't blame Maggie if she ends up despising Daryl because of this. That was a seriously moronic thing to do. Dare I say that it's even worse then when Carl got Dale killed back in Season 2.

On a lighter note, another thing I love about Negan is that in general he is such a gigantic threat that he manages to even put the Governor to shame, and it goes without saying that the Governor wasn't exactly a pushover either. One way of putting the contrast between them is this: The Governor only managed to break Rick's group quite this badly in his final episode before he ultimately met his end. Negan on the other hand managed to accomplish that in just his first two episodes, and unlike the Governor he didn't suffer a Pyrrhic Victory either. No, this time, for now at least, The Bad Guy Wins.

Frankly, if Negan really wanted to have one over the group, he would have stopped after hitting Glenn the first time. It makes the group focus on his survival, rather than revenge, and gives them a persistent reminder of what happens when they don't toe the line. And since — as he mentions when the Carl arm-putation comes up — he has good doctors at his camp, he can even make himself look like the "good guy" by offering him medical assistance ... if they continue to toe the line.

That being said, I think I recall from the Talking Dead that the actor, Stephen Yuen, opted to have his character share the same fate as his comic book counterpart, and it's challenging on several different levels to play someone with a traumatic brain injury.

Semi-related to the current topic, but I have something to add to the "There's barely any characters left from Season 1" discussion. I must say, the S1 Finale reeks of Harsher in Hindsight these days, because Jenner had offered to Mercy Kill Rick's entire group back then, with the logic that they're deaths will be quick and painless in the explosion instead of dying horribly outside {And also the whole "BTW we're all infected and will turn into walkers upon death unless our brains are destroyed" thing, but we didn't hear about that till much later}. And guess what? Pretty much all of the characters who were in that episode that wound up dying in later seasons ended up suffering terrible and horridly painful deaths. Makes you realize that Jenner might have been right, in a way. And as someone who became a Walking Dead fan as the result of binge-watching all of Season 1 before there were any other seasons, it hits pretty hard.

[up] As I said earlier, there are currently eleven characters left. From the first four seasons. And Carol and Morgan aren't even with Rick's crew ATM. Seeing the state Rick's group is in right now, compared to how much Rick's group flourished in the earlier seasons, is truly what broke me.

Also I just realized something.

Nobody seems to care about Carol and Morgan journeying to the Kingdom. [lol]

I've thought about that for quite awhile. It' is pretty messed up in hindsight.

This show is either amazing for an actor's resume or utterly terrible.

[up] In-universe? I mean, Negan kind of takes the spotlight away. Out? Well show viewers don't really know what The Kingdom is yet, comic book readers have known about it for awhile.

It's neat that Morgan gets to live this long but I'm worried he's on the chopping block next. I've rather liked his character arc, even if his philosophy can't realistically function in a setting like this.

[up]#1993: There's a reason the title of this episode comes from Dr. Jenner.

Jenner (letting the group leave): "There's your chance. Take it."
Rick: "I'm grateful."
Jenner: "The day is coming when you won't be."

@1983: Good lord, that's brilliant. And more than a little twisted.

As I said earlier, there are currently eleven characters left. From the first four seasons.

I know this is just splitting hairs, but I counted twelve, including Judith. Does Judith count?

Pretty much all of the characters who were in that episode that wound up dying in later seasons ended up suffering terrible and horridly painful deaths.

Lori, T-Dog, Dale and Glenn, especially.

Though by comparison, Shane got off pretty easy, especially considering what he'd done up until that point.

There are only 4 characters left some season one right now and Rick and Carl are functionally immortal until the end.
