You're missing out if you're not looking beyond sequels, though
Sorry about that.
Can't they just like.... hire more animators?
Do they even have the budget to do that?
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."The animators are already underpaid as it is. It's admirable that you still see the passion in a work considering how tough it is for 'em.
ACCOUNT NO LONGER USED. *straps on jetpack*Hiring more animators isn't solving the problem. It makes it worse!
I will be all for less anime being made if it means the good of their well being.

Average salary of the anime industry staff
Actual animator's story of what it's like
ACCOUNT NO LONGER USED. *straps on jetpack*I've dived all in on Ippo. Cleared a hundred chapters out of 1154 in about a week, which is a good pace.
This early 90s homophobia doe. I'd be offended normally, but the shamelessness of the overbearing dudebroitude in display is a riot, personally.

"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018*sees that Bungou Stray Dogs Season 2 features none of the cast from Season 1 except Dazai and Ryūnosuke, and instead adapts the spin-off light novel prequel starring Dazai in his days in the Port Mafia*
*sees how everybody says this is so far their favorite season and a much better improvement over the "poorly-written, bland" first season thereby dissing an entire cast of entertaining characters, when kyun actually enjoyed it and had no idea the second season would be like this until it rudely dawned on it right this evening*
.... whelp. I know ONE anime I am dropping this season! -_- Utterly and severely disappointed.
Beautiful and bittersweet short anime film, with collaboration from Porter Robinson.
r/anime is having a huge fight about it too with the mods saying 'it's not anime'
*takes deep breath*
OMYGOD WTF WAS THAT THAT WAS AWESOME AS FUCK AND DEM BEATS WTF AND THAT ENDING SCENE MAN DUDE IT WAS JUST SIX FRIGGIN MINUTES BUT I HAD TO PUNCH THE SCREEN TO FEEL MANLY AGAIN GODDAMIT
ACCOUNT NO LONGER USED. *straps on jetpack*"ISH IT AMINE OR URSH EET A CARTUUUN!?!?!!?!?!?!?"
Shut up. Shut the hell up. This debate needs to stop. I am sick and ****** tired of ****** it. Here's the truth: anime is becoming more and more of an international collaboration these days. Japan is SLOWLY opening up to Western collaborations, but they ARE doing it. They been doing it for years now. Space Dandy was produced in association with Funimation. Crunchyroll co-produced Shelter. Toonami will soon get a 5-episode OVA produced in Japan just for them to air later in 2017, and they are closely working with Production IG to make an FLCL sequel. Lesean Thomas, an American, just completed his Cannon Busters pilot and is now making at least 2 other Japanese-animated projects. Thomas Romain is working on 3!! The line between Western animation and anime is becoming more and more blurred so STOP ****** ASKING IF SOMETHING IS ONE OR THE OTHER!! You'll only get yourself more confused and it will make the arguments even more heated!
anime = cartoons anyway so the entire debate is pointless
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."... They didn't hear of Animesque, did they?
Really, the Japanese use "anime" as short for "animation"; it's the English-speaking Western world (specifically, North America) that decided to import the word and use it as a catch-all term for Japanese animation and only that.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Would you call Batman The Animated Series anime even though Madhouse did a lot of episodes? I would disagree, there is a fine line with what is or isn't 'anime' as used by western anime fans.
Sorry I brought it up, I expected some jokes or legit convo instead of all caps posts. It's an endless heated debate that never goes anywhere.

Exactly. In Japan, friggin' Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy is anime.
That's what I was saying with
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."From Akai Toshifumi, a director at A-1 Pictures, on an interview regarding Shelter:
When people who speak Japanese say 'anime', they usually refer to the entirety of animated works.

Totally agreed.
R/anime mods had always applied the rules arbitrarily. They allowed discussion threads on animations that are produced completely by Chinese animators directors and producers but have a Japanese dub and CR streaming.
Re: Shelter: the music is bad, but I digress. Animation is fluid most of the time, but it is a one person team, so it is understandable. Character designs have the A-1 disease, but w/e. Scenery is informational but short of interesting. Rin is otaku pandering (but no fanservice, so that's good right?) who doesn't look her age, whereas the main character in Shelter is middle age European woman, but w/e. Ignoring the song, the short tells a good story about sacrificing for the next generation. It's not indictive of how bad the anime industry is as MAL ratings say.
I first heard of the idea of a "A1 Pictures style" from Digibro's videos. While I thought he was just projecting his own hatred toward the studio at the time, I am realizing more and more that the style is real. I wish someone would make a chart of all the traits that define the A1 Pictures look.
The thing is though, the markers of A1 series have actually changed over the years, in the same way PA Works' art style has changed since True Tears. Compare WORKING!! and Sword Art Online (which came out close together) to Servant X Service and WWW Working.
Anyone checking out the new season?
I'm following 2 of the second seasons of shows: Hibiki Euphonium 2 and Bungo Stray Dogs 2, both of which are starting out excellently. Though it's telling that the only 2 animes I am following this season are both continuations of shows I already know are good. Because truthfully the more seasons of anime are made, the more I slowly understand why they say the industry is eating in on itself.
