An inverse of the topic "Songs you like by bands you hate."

Every band you like out there probably has produced a "miss" song or two before, so feel free to share what they are here!

"Crawling" by Linkin Park, but just the original version. Its remix fixes damn near everything wrong with the song, sans lyrics.

Breaking Benjamin - More or less the whole Dear Agony album. Everything before it, I adored.

Nevermore's The Obsidian Conspiracy was full of these for me. For such a class act, that album was a massive letdown, especially after all the time elapsed since This Godless Endeavour.

Perhaps Jeff Loomis and Warrel Dane just burnt all their creativity out on their epic solo albums.

Because I choose to.

^Seconded, fellow Chumba.

"Moottoritie on Kuuma" by Pelle Miljoona. The song is kinda awesome, but it has become one of those dumb rock anthems. Luckily "Villi Lapsi" is pretty much the same song but with less overexposure.

the statement above is false

Love Rush, but there are a few songs I've never liked: Rivendell, The Necromancer and Scars.

I also find Led Zeppelin's The Crunge and Hot Dog to be blemishes on their otherwise admirable discography.

I don't know why, but I'm not fond of Watching Evil Empires Fall Apart and Steal Your Bones by Electric Six. Yes, the guys who did Gay Bar. I guess it's because they sound a bit melancholy in both lyrics and tune. Well, as about as melancholy as Electric Six will allow.

Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions.

Avarice by Disturbed. They Wasted A Perfectly Good Riff.

Dave Draiman can't seem to work well with speedy guitar songs, making him sing without structure. The same could be said for Guarded.

Uh... "White Man", "Don't Try Suicide" by Queen
Paul's granny shit and "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" by The Beatles
"Mother" and "Walking in Your Footsteps" by The Police
"Blue Condition", "Pressed Rat and Warhog" and "Mother's Lament" by Cream
That horrible cover of "Light My Fire" by Massive Attack
"Into the Void" by NIN
"Seamus", "Vera", "Bring the Boys Back Home" and "The Trial" by Pink Floyd
Primal Scream's crap cover of "Motorhead"
"Half" is a really meh song on the otherwise awesome Superunknown
The Ramones' cover of "Baby I Love You"
"My Wife" has crap lyrics, good music though
"Miami" and "Please" by U2
That's all I can think of...

Probably should get working on that essay now...

The Great Gig in the Sky by Pink Floyd.

I HATE THAT STUPID PRETENTIOUSLY WHINY VOICE

I probably have quite a few, but one I can name instantly:

"Glitter Freeze" by Gorillaz

Now granted, I don't mind instrumentals. However, the instrumentals here are repetitive, annoying, and don't seem to tell a story (something else I like in an all instrumental piece). Though I'm not a fan of Evanescence anymore, their song "Eternal" is an example of an all instrumental piece done right IMO. So I'm sorry Gorillaz, but this song just didn't work.

"The Warrior Inside" by Dragonforce. It's just too peppy and upbeat to feel like a Dragonforce song.

I didn't hate "Glitter Freeze", but I do think they wasted a perfectly good Mark E. Smith cameo.

Earth is the only planet inhabitable by Nicolas Cage.

"Prism and Gate" by Scar Symmetry. I don't actually hate it and the song is good, but I can't bring myself to enjoy it in a otherwise perfect album.

"I Am The Walrus" by The Beatles. It was clearly written while they were stoned out of their minds, but unlike most of their other acid-fueled songs, it doesn't even have a decent melody going for it! It's just trippy!

Relient K's ENTIRE first album. Most of their fans admit their early stuff is crap compared to the last 2 or 3 albums though.

We're going to spread this shit like Nutella.

Yesterday's additions to my list:

"Wuthering Heights" (GAH FUCK THIS SONG SO HARD), "Coffee Homeground" and "Ran Tan Waltz" by Kate Bush.

Probably should get working on that essay now...

Probably "Aladdin Sane" by David Bowie. It's a really nice song, then it gets to the free jazz piano and sax solos and it becomes less enjoyable.

The original version of "Chant No. 1 (I Don't Need This Pressure On)" by Spandau Ballet is another one. That said, they did a live version on Jonathan Ross's programme which is a lot better.

With the sole exception of "Spitfire", ANY song on Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned by The Prodigy. Of course, that album does have a Broken Base, but everyone can agree that it's definitely not as good as their older and newer material. At least they got rid of "Baby's Got A Temper".

Oh, and:

  • "Rocky Raccoon" and "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" - The Beatles (They were on too much acid to me.)
  • "Tthhee Ppaarrttyy" - Justice and Uffie (She's done better before, and Justice can't do anything badly.)
  • "Smile" - Janelle Monae (She's not too suited to ballads, IMO.)
  • "Supermassive Black Hole" - Muse (and no, not just because it was used in Twilight)
  • Lauryn Hill's cover of "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You"
  • Thirding "Tubthumping". Chumbawumba is amazing, but that song is just too damn overplayed.

^ That and "Telephone". The latter is nice until the chorus kicks in. The line "Stop telephoning me-eh-eh-eh" was just overkill.

Glitter Freeze is actually one of my favourite songs on the album.

I don't really like Pavement's "Here."

I don't seem to get this. I adored "The Trial", "I Am the Walrus", "Tubthumping" and "Glitter Freeze". "Crawling" wasn't bad, either.

If I like a band I tend to at least mildly enjoy all of their output.

I Am the Walrus is one of the greatest songs ever.

If we're talking Beatles, though: Maxwell's Silver Hammer. Ugh.
