I was thinking the 7th Gym would be after the movie not before because I figure either Greninja or Talonflame would happen by then.

Personally, I'm thinking that the writers are going for a pre-Tournament Arc with Flare and/or Malamar. Ash gets his 8th badge just in time for all the heavy stuff to come down. The Malamar attack Pokemon Village, Flare (including Alain) come in to help Ash and Diantha fight them off, only to invoke Cavalry Betrayal as they make their play, with Alain realising that that's Not What He Signed On For, especially when they kidnap Marian (his Morality Pet). Whether Flare is taken down here or later will depend on what the "Third Game" is.

... It was a joke. I do that sometimes. -_-

Team Rocket lurk in Florges' shadow…!? This is the Florges that expelled Goomy and its friends and took the lake. But we can see Team Rocket standing there behind it in this picture... Why!?

Why, of course. Lysandre's busy with the Mega Evolution Special people and Giovanni can't be half-assed to fly over to Kalos, so the T Rio have to be the only human villains. Even when it doesn't make sense.

Maybe it's Butch and Cassidy for once?

& That's OK, my jokes are kind of pitiful and my intent is hard to read in print as opposed to in person (I'm told I'm funniest when I'm not trying, anyway). I was more exaggerating the fact that the Gyms were suddenly decreasing the gaps between them this region - after big ones between Viola and Grant, then Grant and Korrina (that were the same length, suspended episode notwithstanding), the gaps were just getting smaller. Since XY074 is 7 episodes after the Clemont battle, then it would by that logic be 5-6 episodes until the next Gym (which would be XY080 at the latest, and would thus fall right before the movie's premiere week).

Sorry guys, I sometimes forget that people aren't inevitably going to get what I intend with some of the things I say - for all you guys know, I might think that the entire franchise is a product of my imagination as I gaze into a snowglobe.

For the record, that bit about the snow globe was definitely one of the stupidest things ever seen in canonical fiction, and my comment here was intended as a massive Take That!... not that All Just a Dream is usually ([[Young Justice usually) a good trope anyway, and that includes this series with its (in)famous theory about Ash being in a coma...

re: Goodra 2-parter:

Team Rocket just doesn't fit as the villains. Aside from all that Florges' faction is implied to have done (as discussed below), Team Rocket would have just arrived on the scene; they would've had nothing to do with Goomy's exile.

This Villain Arc seems to better befit the Malamar faction. Though I didn't see Goomy's introduction episodes due to a temporary lack of cable, (and a desire to be able to sleep in on Sundays,) what I have heard about Pokemon being more aggressive better befits Malamar's "Destroy All Humans and Take Over The World" plot than our Terrible Trio's "for fun and profit" motive. Setting the Malamar as the villainous faction would also have been interesting from the pesrpctive of the Alien Non-Interference Clause which seems to be cited in this two-parter.

EDIT: Re: "The Pledging Tree": Yeah, the episode's hype definitely qualifies as Tonight, Someone Kisses. Heck, were it not for one gesture, the needle wouldn't have moved at all. It actually qualifies better as You Mean "Xmas" (the Japanese version) (though due to a disruption I didn't actually watch the part where Ramos gave the backstory).

Not gonna lie, possesssed Ash got me a little hype for this movie.

I know right.

He looks like he ready to start wrecking shit.

And if this wasn't Pokemon, I'd believe that he could.

Type Overlap aside (and really in-universe I don't think it'll be a big deal-as in it won't be brought up) I do like Noivern so I'm not really upset about Ash getting it if he does get Noibat. Yeah his team's weak to Ice, but that doesn't make him helpless: Pikachu has Iron Tail, Fletchinider (likely then Talonflame) is a Fire Type so it is good both offensively and defensively against Ice, and Hawlucha is a Fighting Type so he also has an advantage despite his secondary type's weakness to Ice (we see a similar situation when he fought Heliolisk-both can hurt the other).

Ash has done well in past Ice Gyms even when he had a type disadvantage (Grotle in Sinnoh and Krookodile in Unova).

Don't forget Pryce in Johto - after Cyndaquil (who beat Dewgong) lost to Piloswine, Ash had Pikachu ice-skate using the ice pillars to move on the ice and increase his speed.

And don't forget that the anime loves to disregard type matchups anyway. :P

So, I just recently watched the Diancie movie and I love it. Especially how it becomes a monster movie with Yveltal at the end.

I think I might be able to answer this for you though its purely speculation. While not caught in their exact in-game route locations. Ash has caught his Kalos Team in their Regions of origin.

Ash got Froakie from Sycamore and captured Fletchling in the wilds of the Central Region, he caught Hawlucha in the Coastal Region, and while caught outside of it Goodra hails from the Mountain Region (and is being returned there).

So his next captures should be from the Mountain Region and Ash just might be catching a Noibat next (and even if you don't count the Ending as evidence, consider Ash's history of catching a new Pokemon not longer after releasing or placing another in training somewhere. OS did it all the time and Sinnoh had Gliscor and Gible). Coincidently like in Sinnoh one's the Psuedo-Dragon and the other's a Bat, but their situations have been reversed (they even share a type, though Dragon instead of Ground).

So my idea is the reason Ash hasn't caught a Grass Type yet is because they have just now gotten to the Region it lives in. That and Phantump/Trevenant would be the Muk/Glalie/Boldore of the group and while they tend to be good battlers they often don't get as much focus as Ash's other (animal based) Pokemon who tend to be of the Ridiculously Cute Critter variety.

I hope you find this idea satisfactory. Though only time will tell if its correct or not.
