To me, Kaladin from The Stormlight Archive looks like Chad from Bleach while Dalinar looks like the captain of the guard from Gargoyles and Adolin looks like a more human-looking D.

Kaladin looking like Chad? Don't know where you got that. I mean, Kaladin's doesn't strike as big and muscular, more lean and dangerous.

For me, even though I've been told he's too handsome, I'll forever picture Harry Dresden as Felix Reibl.

I went into the The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy books knowing that Arthur Dent was played by Martin Freeman in the movie, so I imagined Arthur Dent as Martin Freeman. And let me tell you, whatever problems the movie had, I can only assume (having not actually seen the movie) that Martin Freeman was not one of them because god, all of Arthur's lines in those books are begging to be performed by him. That is some dead-on casting.

I always imagined Holden Caulfield as looking like River Phoenix. Hell, my dream cast for a Catcher movie had him playing Holden.

To me: Nevile Longbottom is tall and blonde. This outright goes against the text, so I'm not entirely sure how I've come to believe this.

Not a literary favorite, but I'm not gonna lie, when I read Mockingjay, I kept imaging President Coin as a less friendly and likable Lin Beifong. In general, I imaged President Coin as a military type with short Power Hair, so it made the movie adaptational choice of Coin having long-ish hair a bit disconcerting for me.

I always picture Caiaphas Cain as looking a bit like (a taller) Aaron Eckhart, with his most heroic of chins and generally heroic demeanour which is of course in direct contrast to his 'real' attitude...

Ooh, have a couple:

In City Of Stairs:

  • One of the main characters, Vohannes Votrov, is this bisexual man-about-town and social reformer who is described as being a red-head and having a perpetual smirk. Because of his sort of odd smile and penchant for morally conflicted characters, I see him as Damien Lewis.
  • Because of the Homeland connection, I see the other main character, Shara Thivani, a seemingly unassuming woman who is a spymaster as Nazanin Boniadi- although she's much prettier than Shara.
  • Shara's "secretary"/bodyguard, Sigrud is hard to cast. He's this hulking Norse berserker in a suit. Someone suggested to the book's author that he looks like Brock Sampson of The Venture Brothers. The only thought I had was Hafthor Bjornsson of Game of Thrones- in part because at one point, Sigrud kills someone in a very similar way as Bjornsson did on the show.

Sort of related to the above, because of Damien Lewis' odd smile/face (no offense to him), I thought he was perfectly cast in Wolf Hall as Henry VIII, who is described as having oddly feminine lips that are too small for his face.

Although Bernard Hill is great as the crusty Duke of Norfolk, I thought of David Bradley when reading the book, since Bradley almost exclusively plays crusty (and often evil) old men.

I never had a good mental image of Grand Admiral Thrawn until Benedict Cumberbatch came along.
