I was intimately, if minorly involved in Crunch Time. I had no official role, but I'm on the same page of Special Thanks as The Lovely Woman From El Greco Cove (one of the producers' in-jokes).

Teufel: Yes, honestly. They're responsible guys. I think part of it is that Mom was always the one who scheduled & coordinated. (Because Dad is scatterbrained. As am I!) Therefore, Women are Coordinators.

It's odd: I mean, my family doesn't really do the "men's job/women's job" thing. Both clean, both do laundry, Dad bought me my first power drill, etc. I'm willing to bet nobody's given it much thought, TBH.

Not sure what to tell you. You would know better then I do. If you have organized things in the past it could be you have proven more capable at it then you believe yourself to be.

So Blade Runner is getting a sequel. I am tentatively optimistic about this. It looks like it has the tone right and some of the surreal elements to boot. It is also pursuing the story after the end of the first film. Keep your fingers crossed folks.

The wall in my kitchen has been damaged by an intermittent leak since summer. Maybe longer, since I didn't notice the damage happening on the other side, inside the pantry closet, just when the paint ruptured on the kitchen side.

I took months to get around to reporting it (because I wanted to clean up first), but I finally did the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Just before I left for Christmas, I found a card on the inside of my door saying that a maintenance employee had been by, but the only other evidence I could see was a square hole cut inside the pantry to try to get a look at the leak.

Today, just when I was about to finally get going and ready to get my tires replaced, a maintenance employee knocked on my door, and after I put pants on and let her in, she looked at the damage and just said, "yeah. I can see where the leak is. It's definitely not your fault. I have to get my lead to call our contractor. You'll get a call soon."

Fuck, I definitely think I need to start on some kind of antidepressant. You'd think that my life objectively being better than it's been in years would help with that but apparently not.

In the meantime, I've taken up building Gunpla. If you like doing mindless, detailed work with your hands, it makes for some absolutely fantastic stress relief.

Until you realize, "Wait, when did this mindless hobby I did for fun grow into thousand dollar models that I do not have the skill to give justice?"

Or at least, that's how I did it. So yeah, HG all the way [lol]

Kyle; Gunplas? Would that be model kits?

Yeah. Model kits of giant Japanese war robots, but model kits nonetheless.

I spent many good hours doing those. Lots of fun, but back when I did it I had to import. Don't know about now.

There's a fairly solid official distribution channel these days. A lot of the smaller production kits still require import, but I don't have or really desperately want any of those right now.

And yeah, I was thinking HG all the way... until I snapped together an MG Proto Zero. It's currently on my desk waiting for me to go out and buy a gray marker so I can panel line it properly.

The money thing honestly hasn't been that big an issue yet; other than my first two kits, I haven't paid full price for any of the nineteen currently in my possession. Most of that came from a group buy of an enormous ebay sale, the rest - including a slightly staggering number of really nice tools - were gifts from the other participants as a thank you for organizing said group buy.

Happy New Years Cobbies.

While this video has nothing to do with new years it is sufficiently celebratory. That and I find it much more entertaining then what I have seen passing for music videos for the more local material.

Okay, so, Rogue One. I loved it and I entirely respect it, but WHAT THE FUCK.

I'm not doing anything for New Years besides cleaning the house and making new clothes. It's gonna be awesome.

The missus and I are just hanging out at home, then we are making mixed drinks. We have Jim Beam Honey, Jack, Morgan White Rum, and absolut. We also have coke and pepsi and some fruit juices. What we don't drink tonight we drink later and use in cooking

Well, Happy New Year, Cobbies... and I think this song has summed up my thoughts on 2016 / 2017. Because life has a way of confusing us, blessing and bruising us...

Here's to whatever comes
Drink! L'chaim! To Life!

Happy new year, Cobbies! Really wishing partner was here with me instead of up in New York, but they still sounded like they had a great night hanging out with family and meeting new people so I'm happy. Plus we both know that they would have hated the party I ended up going to, and which I also had a great time at, so I'm going to chalk it up as a win-win.

Still wish I could come home to them, though. Ah, well.

I also decided that I'd treat the party as a send-off, but I wanted to consider rewatching Casablanca for the zillionth time as the actual last thing I did this year. For what's ahead, I think I needed a story about incredibly cynical and jaded people rediscovering their nobility and choosing to do the right thing for a cause greater than themselves. Not because it's easy for them, not because it's who they are, not even because they want to. But because it's what's right.

While I was home for Christmas, I liquidated my hometown bank account. I haven't had access to it for years, and closing it should help credit agencies make sense of my identity.

When I was a kid and my parents were managing that account for me, $1400 sounded like so much. Now it's less than two rent payments.

Anyway, I deposited it in my primary account on my first opportunity, which was Tuesday thanks to Monday being Observed. It's a big check, so of course there was a longer hold on it than usual. I set an email alert to let me know when that money finally became available.

I figured since I had Thursday off, I'd get my tires replaced (which was overdue in October) then. But the money wasn't available yet. So I didn't go then. I set an email alert to tell me when it happened, and figured I'd go get it done today.

Well, I never got that email, so I didn't do anything today. This evening, I checked my account balance, and it turns out it did happen, I just didn't get the email. And I'm not going to have time again until next Sunday.

I went to bed early because I had to be at church early the next morning to sing. Such a grownup life!

The rest of New Year's Day was spent pleasantly, taking a recording of my choir's Christmas concert and breaking it up into tracks, editing out station IDs and stuff. (It was broadcast on the radio Christmas day.) I'm not terribly experienced at it, or very good, but it's a project that's somewhere between art and a puzzle, and I like both of those things.

January is our busy month at work, so it's nice to relax before I have to get into that.

I'm having relationship issues. I know the Mc Donalds she works at is overworking DM... but... Fuck! I'm tired of always being the one to initiate text convos/ hang out plans. Maybe I'd like a random text. Maybe I'd like to be asked if I'm free.

... you know, fuck it. Jack Daniels time. From now on, if I don't hear from her, means she's busy, means drinking time!

Maybe you'd like to calmly discuss your feelings and needs with her when you feel they aren't being met?
