Well, seems the holiday blues arrived early for me this year. :/ Been fighting it with a bit of miniature painting and mostly watching sci-fi/horror shark b-movies on Amazon Prime Video.

I understand Mark. Usually when they come up I'd just throw myself harder at work (which was easy, since retail during holidays = time?).

Little weird this year since I don't have that to fall back on.

My command is doing a children's christmas party today. I volunteered to make the bounce house reservation and run child crowd control on them. Holy crap are those things expensive. We're spending almost $600 for three (plus generators to run them), but there are some that go for as much as $700 for a four hour stretch!

[up]Yup. And, that's probably not factoring in the fuel to run the generators.

However: totally worth it when you see little faces light up when they go bananas. Unless you've got the soul of a particularly Scrooge-like actuary. [lol]

The generators won't be too bad. The bounce houses don't have huge draws in most cases and could be possibly run off of some of the smaller generators which can run for a good while off of a jerry can or two of diesel.

Speaking of kiddos the scouts had their annual December movie and fund raiser prize drawing. They asked me to draw the name for the prize this year. They aren't too bad that is until someone gave them rather shrill loud whistles to play with. -_- the lobby is tiled floor with a lot of glass which means a giant echo chamber. Thankfully only a few got a bit whistle crazy.

You'll need to surprise them with an adult bouncy house first, or you won't get their vulnerable feet out of their shoes.

Ugh, it's end of year at my work: every business (from mom and pop to some large businesses you'd be familiar with) seems to have either:

  • Screwed up tax reporting.
  • Keyed in employee or company data wrong.
  • Put everything off till the last minute.
  • Thinks that we can fix their shit over the phone.

End of year runs till mid-January - FML.

I dealt with a fear of mine a few days ago.

I heard a loud buzzing and found a bee in the house. I am terrified of bees, thanks to getting stung by one as a child and not knowing if I'm now deathly allergic to them. I'm probably not. But still. I was alone, so I ignored her for a few minutes. I couldn't bring myself to kill her because bees provide a valuable service to our earth, and delicious honey, and also she might take me with her. But instead of flying around to the door, she stayed in the same spot on the window, buzzing around, completely unignorable.

I recalled a scene in Elementary where Sherlock Holmes catches a rare bee with a jar, and grabbed one of my numerous spares. Getting the jar around the bee was fine. Trying to slide the lid up? NO BUENO. The bee kept buzzing around by the opening of the jar. I stayed frozen there for a while until she retreated to the back, and I had no excuse. Then I took a deep breath and shouted "SHERLOCK CAN DO IT!" and got the lid over.

I was still terrified seeing as I hadn't screwed the lid shut. So all the way to the driveway, in-between pretending not to be terrified while answering my neighbors' curious children ("What are you gonna do with that bug?" "I'm going to release it peacefully back into the wild, for I am a responsible adult"), I kept muttering my new chant for courage. "Sherlock can do it, Sherlock can do it, sherlockcandoit—" until I yanked the lid off. Abandoning the jar, I ran screaming back into the house, where I slammed the door and closed all the windows.

Still haven't gotten the jar back.

[up]Something that might help you with that allergy uncertainty: get a test — it might be worth it to you. You might also find you're allergic to something other than bees, though. wink

However, better to live in certainty than in doubt. smile

If I ever hit the lotto, my "dream car" won't be a Lambo, Ferrari, Bugatti Veyron, or Pagani Zondo.

No, it will be a Ford Falcon coupe (at least the body) that I will turn into The Pursuit Special Interceptor ON STEROIDS.

Well found out something that makes me rather pissed at the whole Corritore clan. I am also convinced the parents were hiding the shit bag and his dog when he disappeared and lied about it when the authorities came knocking.

One of the folks who works here is neighbors with their family. Apparently the whole rotten pack of assholes has a tendency to own overly aggressive dogs that they run loose out of control and have overt animal aggression. Their neighbor hood has had some serious issues with The Grandparents and Parents dogs running around attacking neighbor hood cats and attacking and killing peoples chickens. They have a constant issue of living in denial and pretending it isn't a problem until one of the neighbors got a gun and was a few seconds short of blasting one of their loose monsters. So the shitbag carried on the family tradition of owning an overly aggressive dog and letting it run loose without restraint and completely failing to behave like a responsible adult.

Fuck their whole family.

[up]T-Hound, sounds like a friend of mines: his brother ran over a neighbor's dog that keep attacking my friend when he rode his bike home from school. They talked to the neighbor until they were blue in the face, then my friend got bit. So one day when he was riding home from school, big bro was in his truck behind his little bro (my friend) and ran the mangy dog over when it came out to bite. And that's how rednecks deal with it.

You should call animal control or the police and report that family. Chances are they are neglecting shots, vet visits and proper care as their furry monsters run loose. Someone will shoot those animals as soon as they are a threat to their pets or children. Better to get the law involved and have the dogs taken away.

So I've got this window in my townhouse that has one pane that's cloudy. It happens when the seal fails on insulated windows. Last October I called Maintenance about it and they took the pane to send off for repair. All our windows are double-hung, so the window wasn't just, y'know, open.

Well, I waited and waited for them to put the pane back in. They're usually prompt: it took them less than a day to come and rebuild my leaky kitchen faucet. But the window panes are fixed in batches, so it could be awhile before they had enough windows to send away. But this week the weather turned REALLY COLD. So I left a message asking when the pane would be returned.

Got home last night and there was a note in my door. The pane was back but still cloudy. It had been misplaced and didn't make it into the last shipment. Also, they forgot to put my house number on it, so when they found it again, they didn't know where it was supposed to go. *headdesk* They say they'll get it fixed in the spring. The note had like three apologies in it, but still.

When spring comes, I'm not gonna wait for them to call. And I'm writing my own house number on it with a grease pencil. The maintenance guys are nice enough and they do good work, but they have got to find a better way (or person) to keep track of stuff.

Scion: Not as horrible as I thought that might turn out. Granted with how freezing cold it got over the past few days here in Omaha I bet that lack of insulation layer was not much fun.

So now they remade The Mummy movie with Tom Cruise. Hollywood you disappoint me.

[up]And from what I see of the trailer, Cruise DGAF: it's extremely lazy and pandering. SFX shots, CGI, Cruise stunts. This is why I watch older series or follow shows like RWBY - original concepts.

Teufel: Yeah, our maintenance guys ain't half bad. I'm just complaining about the silliness of failing to a) mark the pane b) put it where they'll remember it. Like, if it were me, I'd write the house number on it before taking it out of the window. Or before I left the person's house, anyway. And how full is their shop if they can misplace a 5' x 2.5' piece of glass?

Then again, most people don't need mad organizational skills just to function, as I do.

I am at a loss as to why Hollywood feels the need to remake The Mummy. Which, yeah, that one was a remake too, but at least it'd been 50+ years.

In other news, I made chocolate pumpkin bread and it turned out beautifully.
