YYH got super weird toward the ending. Like, Bleach doesn't even compare.

Are... are you joking?

Two words: Lille. Barro. He turned into a giant... I... I don't even know what this is. Looks like something out of dothack or Legend of Legaia.

How is that not weird by angel standards?

And then his entire fight with Shunsui - whose Bankai turns out to be a beautiful woman who makes children's games lethal, which only matters for five seconds because we don't even see how or if any part of this actually managed to hurt Barro. IIRC he comes back as that angel/dragon monstrosity.

Exhibit B: Pernida.

A giant living hand (wearing a cloak!) that belongs to the arc's primary MacGuffin the Soul King, the fully sentient left hand of some cosmic entity that serves as the lynchpin of all reality, acting on the behalf of a maniacal otherworldly conqueror, fighting with the ability to project its nerve endings into its opponents - and how does Mayuri proceed to f'ck this thing up? By unleashing his giant, naked baby sword spirit, which gives birth to another giant naked baby sword spirit with its nerves on the outside of its skin and having it devour Pernida, countering Pernida's The Compulsory because said naked baby sword monster was designed to have 7,000 layers of nerves throughout its body.

And I thought Giselle and Bambietta were messed up.

YYH was more the narrative became really weird. Important plot points were resolved offscreen, the final tournament was won by a bit character because everyone stronger than said bit character tired out too fast, a major character suddenly dies with no buildup, and there were a lot of weird philosophical treatises on Togashi's thoughts on human nature.

The chapter where Hiei and Mukuro get revenge on her horrible stepfather was gold, though.

Fair, I watched the anime version, but to compare:

YYH was more the narrative became really weird. Important plot points were resolved offscreen, the final tournament was won by a bit character because everyone stronger than said bit character tired out too fast, a major character suddenly dies with no buildup, and there were a lot of weird philosophical treatises on Togashi's thoughts on human nature.

Several plot points weren't even answered and had to be explained in side novels. A few battles weren't actually concluded and a lot of characters were Put on a Bus or likewise abandoned. The main character was barely in the final arc and spent most of his time just getting from Point A to Point B. Few of the initial main cast actually accomplished anything or developed. The final battle was paltry next to the hideous length of all of the battles before it, and ended anticlimactically because of a sudden rush of Teeth-Clenched Teamwork ... except this didn't actually end things and the main villain returned for a few seconds in the epilogue before being unceremoniously destroyed by the child of the main character without any explanation. The end.

It's like the kid who convinced Togashi Kubo to continue and eventually finish Bleach symbolically ended up being the one to kill the final antagonist and put the series to rest.

I also seem to remember someone posting here about the irony of what happened to Ichigo and his friends - all of them ultimately growing up to be or do the exact opposite of what they initially wanted to do.

I mean did YYH have some unorthodox elements, sure. I just never expected anyone to say YYH out-weirded Bleach, aesthetically or thematically.

[up][up][up][up][up][up]Because angels don't necessarily always look like humans with wings and halos. On some occasions they're described as taking on an appearance indistinguishable from humans, while in others, for example Revalations 4:8 - "Six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings".

Another popular description has one class of angels as resembling two pairs of concentric wheels, interlocking and on fire.

In Starrk's case, he consciously chose to serve (and therefore enable) Aizen because Aizen saved him from loneliness and gave him friends. Empathy for him comes from the fact that this is his only desire in life (to get on with people and make friends), a desire that wartime does not permit β€” that, in other (non-wartime) circumstances, he could have welcomed Shinigami rather than fight them.

Not like Shunsui bothered to try to diffuse that non-violently.

For better or worse, Starrk saw the other Arrancar as friends to the point he was genuinely shaken after Barragan's death. It's outright bizarre Kubo killed him off while keeping a comparative bloodthirsty psychopath like Grimmjow around.

That and Shunsui eventually got plain abhorrent. He's pretty far from a decent person and such a terrible leader I kept hoping he'd be a casualty in the final battles.

The Ophanim are usually depicted as blazing wheels. Sometimes, they have eyes. Lots of eyes.

Lille's bizarre appearance seems to have been inspired by the various descriptions of the Cherubim.

When most people think of Cherubim, they're actually thinking of putto (little winged babies). The Cherubim were the guardians of light and various different depictions give them anything from having four faces (lion, ox, human and eagle) to one(lion or human or eagle), having four legs (lion-like body) or one leg, four wings or four pairs of wings (i.e., eight).

Part seven has been released. Not much of the content is known yet, but it seems that the reason for the fall of the Shiba family and its chronology will be partially revealed. Mashiro is revealed to be the sister of Kuna, the little girl from the 12th division that asked for Nemu's backstory. The Sternritter and the Espada thoroughly trashed Hikone. Soul King is confirmed to have never been alive in the first place. He was bound to something but even trapped he is said to have able to read the thoughts and intentions of everything around him (my guess that's the fourth stage of the Almighty), but some reason never did anything. It seems that the same may apply to Yhwach at least to some degree. The Soul King was the absolute ruler over the three original realm. Of the four realms (Soul Society, the real world, Hueco Mundo and Hell), one is fake. Soul Society most likely. Only Urahara, Aizen and select members of the noble families know. Well and Yhwach. Also Aizen backstory in the next chapter that will be released with the actual book.

Also in other news, there will be a special stream on 9PM (Japanese time, so check for your own time zone) celebrating the second anniversary of Brave Souls. Several events will happen, including Gatchas and a very special announcement that will make Bleach fans very happy. Furthermore, several voice actors like Ichigo's and Hisagi's will be there and reading parts of the novel. There is also an idol group and it's rumored that they will be providing the voices for Giselle and Bambietta (take that one with a grain of salt).

http://www.klab.com/jp/english/press/detail/id=5570?date=2017

And there is another announcement. There will be a special form of Ichigo that is original for the game and content of the final arc will be adapted, starting with Human Komamura, Adult Hitsugaya, Arabian Byakuya and Shunsui Bankai

Of the four realms (Soul Society, the real world, Hueco Mundo and Hell), one is fake. Soul Society most likely.

Given what we've seen be hinted about the Shinigami and the Soul King, Soul Society is an obvious choice. Still, there is the observation to make that the boundaries between worlds were created and the Dangai helps to enforce the separation between the Soul Society and the human world — which would imply both worlds are fake because their natural state is to be unified.

Meanwhile, Hueco Mundo is located inside the artificial Dangai, which raises questions about whether or not it's an artificial world — especially given that Hollows technically wouldn't have existed without the separation of worlds and Grimmjow did allude to something very significant happening with the Hollows a thousand years ago (so it would have been connected to the Shinigami/Quincy war back then and the origin of the Soul King). Also, there was an interview reference to the Dangai being a prison, but the manga never did reveal who the Dangai was meant to imprison. The Hollows are an obvious choice, but the manga never got the chance to fully explain Urahara's trip to Hueco Mundo, to ancient ruins where he began to work on something that involved the Quincy Cross.

It made me wonder if the Quincies were originally based in Hueco Mundo, and something happened to scorch the realm into a desert and make it permanently night. It's the only realm with an unchanging day-night cycle, which seems artificial in its own right, and if the battle a thousand years ago between Yamamoto and Yhwach happened in Hueco Mundo, Yamamoto's Bankai would explain why Hueco Mundo is now a desert and why Unohana knew with absolute certainty that if Yamamoto kept that Bankai active for too long, Soul Society would be destroyed. It has always struck me that so many of the Hollows have water themes when it seems out of place for them to be in a desert.

I was really interested in the news that some of the Quincies had relocated to Hueco Mundo, given some of the theories I have. As a result, my first choice for the fake world is Hueco Mundo because my theory about Soul Society and the human world means they're technically a single world that's been split in two, with the Dangai, Hueco Mundo, and other pocket realms being brought into existence in between.

Given that the Dangai is a flow of time that can throw people through time, it does beg the question of whether Yhwach's ability to affect future possibilities is linked in some way to the origin of the Dangai.

Anyway, random speculation, I know.

You're may be into something. The second of three parts have been released. Giselle's group is currently in the Negar Ruins and there is some focus on how different, man-made and ancient those are. They also used to be a temple. They also wonder why Hikone is part everything and unlike Ichigo he can use all these abilities. The Espada do the same. Also Giselle is apparently into Erotic Asphyxiation and sends so Bambietta to sleep or does it while Bambietta is asleep.

Ginjou is now investigating the religious sect (which seems to be at least partly a suicide sect) from the real world. There is some interesting note about how religious views from the real world often clash with the reality of the afterlife that is the Rukongai.

Hanatora's brother is working with Tokinada. Also Mayuri reviving the dead Sternritter he collected. Na Na Na, Candice and Meninas are confirmed, but other Sternritter are also possible, namely: BG 9 (if he is dead), Bazz-B (if he is dead), Cang Du, Askin, Haschwalth and potentially Nianzol.

There is a possibility that Can't fear your own world won't be just two novels, but rather an entire series (like four or five)

Yup. Some people also speculate about Gremmy. Not sure how I would feel about that. I don't think Mayuri should control this brain. Well, if Narita plays his cards right, the interesting Sternritter should be back (except Γ„s NΓΆdt sadly), same for the Sternritter that were wasted. Well except Robert, I don't think that even Mayuri could bring him back.

Also I made a small mistake in my summary. The translation said that Giselle stroke Bambietta and I interpreted it as if she is strangulating Bambietta. As it turns out, Giselle stroked a sleeping Bambietta's head, as in petting her. It's kinda adorable actually.

Pet the Dog exists for a reason. Giselle can be a horrible person and actually loving Bambietta at the same time. She has a twisted view of the world and the idea of love and doesn't even realize what she is doing is bad. Also at the end, zombifying Bambietta was the better option for her, as this allowed Bambietta to not be executed, struck by the Auswahlen or being killed by a Shinigami. She prefers being a zombie over dying for real by a large margin. When her PTSD kicked in, it was because of her fight with Komamura and nothing about the zombification.

[up][up] Why? Bambietta literally begged Giselle to stay a zombie and not die for real. Her fight with Ruddbonn demonstrated just how much Bambietta does not want to die for real. I'm not denying that Giselle's relationship with her is abusive or that she is a horrible person. But things are not 100% black or white. Even Giselle and her relationship with Bambietta have redeeming attributes. People are treating the zombifcation deal as a fate worse than death, when it was made very clear that it isn't and for Bambietta death is much, much worse.

[up] Strangely Bambietta does actually get some pleasure from how Giselle treats her. I'm not kidding, when Giselle sucked her blood in the cave, Bambietta moaned the whole time. Sadomasochism I guess.

Disregarding that, the Bleach live stream revealed a few sketches:

It's confirmed that at least 14 characters from the final arc will be appearing in Bleach Brave Souls. And Can't fear your own world part 2 will release in fall.
