I know Hollywood does this a lot, but now they are remaking the Steig Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. They also are looking for actress and have already brought in a director. The stars they are looking out range from Kristen Stewart (which I personally feel is a bad choice) Carey Mulligan to Megan Fox(another bad choice). Any of the Millennium trilogy fans want to discuss this?

I don't know anything about the movie, only that it's been showing at the local indie theatre for weeks now. I should probably check it out.

While I don't think Hollywood remakes are automatically bad (Though past of them aren't great), doing it so soon after the original had some success looks an awful lot like Hollywood trying to jump on the hype.

Same thing as Let The Right One In.

(I haven't seen Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but my housemate says it's good).

Bear in mind that it's alternative title is Men Who Hate Women.

I wasn't exactly blown away by it, but it could be because Scandinavia is so saturated with crime thriller/whodunnits focusing on the troubled past/present of the people responsible for solving the cases that I've simply tired of the entire subgenre. That said, I did like Noomi Rapace's preformance as Lisbeth, and I really don't think running it through Hollywood would make it all that much better. Then again, I've been wrong before.

Well, I just hope they don't screw it up. I had to watch the movie online and I just finished the third book. I'm planning on going to watch it in theaters though. Roger Ebert actually spoke about the remake in his review (4 stars) that the remake will definitely cut out some of the most gruesome sequences(The scenes with Bjurman comes to mind). I hoped I don't sound rude when I say this, but all the actresses I've seen that are being considered for Lisbeth are too pretty in my opinion. Hollywood a lot of the time tend to go for adaptional attractiveness.I thought Noomi Rapace's performance was excellent.

Yeah, the group I watched the movie with were far too distracted by all the rape, so i don't think mainstream audiences will respond too positively to all that. Though personally I loved it, and am watching the Girl Who Played With Fire as i type.

The Director is David Fincher. I was initially weary of Social Network and that turned out to be great so frankly I'll be optimistic about this one too.

I've been following the development of the Hollywood remake (read the series and own both the Swedish films, they are worth seeing). My take...

-Whoever they get to play Lisbeth is not going to be better than Noomi Rapace. She holds the Swedish version together (even when it stumbles, which it does on on occasion), and is a supremely talented actress. Fun fact; Hollywood's been beating her door down ever since Dragon Tattoo came out.

-The ick meter will definitely get turned down in Hollywood's version; Your Mileage May Vary on whether this is good or not, but it is bound to happen.

-Hollywood is cashing in on the hype, and it irritates me. Sure, movies get remade when the original is a few decades old, and that can be good sometimes. But Dragon Tattoo was in theaters last year, and the third film (The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest) is still playing; it had not even been released yet when Finchler started filming his version. If that's not a jump onto a bandwagon, I'm not sure what would be.

Short form; Hollywood should have left well enough alone this time.

This remake will suck. The casting of Rooney Mara as Lisabeth assured that.

At least it wasn't Kristin freakin' Stewart like Finchler was planning.

[up][up] The third movie has been on DVD for 2 months now in French-Canada, and we're late compared to European Countries. The U.S. are late on the bandwagon that's all.

As for Rooney Mara, not masculine enough. Watch Noomi Rapace when she's naked in those movie. She's pretty muscular. From some angles, it's hard to distingish between her (small) breast and her muscles. I had no problem believing this girl could snap me in too if she wanted. Rooney Mara, not so sure.

However, I wouldn't not be angry if they cut the sex scene in the second movie, It was long and unnecessary. But they better keep the rape intact, it was the most powerful moment in the first film.

I saw the movie earlier tonight (it's showing in select places). It was amazing.

David Fincher did great with this adaptation; it cut out all the idiosyncrasies and writer-indulging moments (where Larson would go on for miles about things we only needed the brush strokes on). It was written by (I believe) the same man who wrote Zodiac so be prepared for a movie with a distinct lack of structure.

The ending was changed but beautifully done. The movie feels like an indie.

And I can attest that Rooney Mara was perfectly cast. I don't know what else she's done (and I've seen her only in SOCIAL NETWORK) but she was perfect as Lisbeth — specifically when she is raped, takes back from the rapist, plays Harriet Vanger [the young version; it's barely noticeable but thematically significant], or interacts with Blomkvist.

He was also amazing.

All in all it was the best adaptation... minus the small bit from the ending where Lisbeth tells Blomkvist that she was made a ward of state because she tried to set her father on fire. Which is weird and I'm gonna wait to see how that plays against the events of FIRE.

But it's an astounding, dark movie. The rape scene was brutal and effective. There was not a thing I did not like about this movie.

The trailer squicked me a bit. "He likes to pleasure her. Not enough."

That line "He pleasures her. Not enough in my opinion," is actually... a bit different in the movie. She actually says, "He [does a certain sexual act] on her. Not enough in my opinion," which makes it quite a deal worse in the Squick factor.

And yeah, if that mention bothers you I'd advise not to see a movie featuring rape, sodomy-rape, tortured, mutilation, sexual violence of all degrees really, forced tattoing, threats of death and torture (coming from the title character) and just all sorts of nastiness.

Christie Ricci? I haven't seen any of her matches but I wouldn't want her to sideline her career to lose the weight necessary to play the part.

Well, I never saw the original but I'm guessing it wasn't an American movie. Then again, given the protagonists actions it does seem pretty Hollywood but those accents don't sound American. I bet the stupid academy awards will nominate it to the moon but I don't think it was that special, too much padding, Too Much Information.
