I got a 3DS recently but apart from the usual Nintendo stuff (Xenoblade and Fire Emblem included) what else should I get?

I'm in the mood for some high score-centric arcade games.
If you have an Android, iOS or Windows Phone device (I can only vouch for Android myself, however), you might try Tiltagon: it's a simple-but-difficult (at least, I find it so) game that involves using tilt controls to roll a ball around an infinitely-generating set of hexagonal tiles, each with its own challenge to pass.

I'm currently playing Show By Rock and Tokyo 7th Sisters. Other than Love Live School Idol Festival, what are other games with similar gameplay and premise I should look out for?

Here's a bizarre one for you... What's the least competitive Pv P game you can possibly think of? Something around the level on TF 2 running the randomizer mod. Vanilla TF 2 is a bit too much. Is there even anything?

[up]Settlers 3/4 multiplayer.

You spend 4 hours in a city builder for 5 minutes of combat.

Attacking in less then 3 hours is considered a "rush".

Any nice games with coop plot mode (i.e. not random shootery like most FPS or random maps like Civs and so on) that work over LAN (i.e. not steam and it's ilk)? Pretty much any genre or age of the game (seriously any age, we're also playing the likes of Heroes 3 and Age of Wonder 2 [lol])

I've so far only found Saints Row series to fit this bill.

[up][up]That's definitely an interesting idea. [lol] I admit my question was about 40% a game I'd be looking for and 60% "I wonder what they can come up with".

@Adannor: I think System Shock 2 has co-op story mode, although from what I've heard it's a little finicky to get to work right. Still worth looking into, though.

100% Orange Juice.

It's 4 players playing against each other, except the RNG reigns supreme in deciding fates anyway. You can have the best combo ever, but if the RNG does not shine kindly on you, it will fail miserably, and everybody — including you — will be laughing.

/me recalls that time that I was playing Kai, played Protagonist's Privilege and Final Battle to fight Peat, didn't KO on first attack, no first counterattack because of Protag Priv, fight went to second round because of FB, missed on second attack, then got KO'd by Peat's counterattack.

Anyone hear besides me played the Ace Combat series?

If so, please see my relationship status cool (no homo)

If not, it's basically Star Fox, minus the incessant animal jokes and not locked onto rails. Dang good fun for those who're up to that sort of thing.

I've played a couple of the Ace Combat games for PS 1. They were great.

That line is from a very likely inspiration for those games, though: Top Gun

Hey, first time Sony customer here, bought my PS Vita a while back, and I'm hoping to upgrade my memory card soon so that I can play more games. Can I have some recommendations? Like I said, never had a Playstation console before, so I'm game for anything from PS One Classics, PSN downloads, cartridge games, etc. I'm particularly looking for good role-playing games and strategy games, but anything else good is welcome. Thanks! smile

What I have currently:

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

Touch My Katamari

Borderlands 2 (came with the bundle)

Persona 4 Golden

Final Fantasy VII

Parasite Eve

Parasite Eve II

Resident Evil 2

Suikoden

Vagrant Story

Xenogears

Persona 3 Portable

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;birth 1

Are PSP games compatbible with the PSV? If so you may want to check out the Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky series. The first game came out for PSP in 2011, the second one is about to come out. (In English, that is.) They are very highly-regarded JRP Gs for the detail of setting, storyline, and NPC interactions in them.

Final Fantasy IX. To me it's the best Final Fantasy game around.

Final Fantasy Tactics too, I suppose. It's a bit obtuse at times, but actually pretty fun.

Anyone have SNES recs? I've already got/working on Mega Man X, the SNES Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem games, Super Metroid, SMT I and II, and Earth Bound, and I'm getting ready to try Chrono Trigger.

[up]Super Mario All-stars, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, Kirby Superstar, Final Fantasy VI, Legend Of Mana, Seiken Denetsu 3, and the Ganbare Goemon games are all great SNES classics that stand-up to this day, so you should definitely check them out if you haven't already.

[up][up] Well, naturally it depends on what genres you like, but definitely get Mega Man X, which has the best videogame soundtrack I've ever heard. Big second for Super Mario World; as someone who's played very little of the other 2D Mario games, I really loved it as a kid.

There's an awesome little baseball game called Super Baseball Simulator 1000 that I played a lot as a kid (and I've never once watched baseball in my life—as you might suspect, it's not much of a "simulation"). You can give your players superpowers, like pitches that zig-zag in the air or super speed when running bases. It's not exactly deep, or a grand adventure like the other games that have been named, but it's a lot of fun.

MMX and FF 6 are already under my belt (or rather, I got to the Very Definitely Final Dungeon of FF 6 last time I played it, and I cleared the PSP remake of Mega Man X - though I also later went back and beat the SNES version of it).

The ones I rattled off earlier, are SNES games that I have and/or am presently working on playing.

MMX, FF 4, and FE 4 are the only ones I've actually cleared (on SNES; FF 5 I cleared on GBA), and recently I've been making epic strides in working through Earthbound.

I'm not sure where else to put this, but this is otherwise extremely huge news of the awakening of what could easily now become the world's largest market for video games.

China Lifting Ban on Sales of Video Game Consoles

BEIJING — China is lifting its ban on sales of video game consoles to promote growth of the industry and a new manufacturing zone in Shanghai.

The Ministry of Culture says consoles produced in the Shanghai Free-Trade Zone will automatically be approved for sale in the rest of China.

The ministry banned console sales in 2000 due to concern Chinese children would waste time playing video games.

The Shanghai trade zone was created in 2013 and has more liberal rules on foreign companies in a range of industries, including bigger ownership stakes and activities that are prohibited elsewhere in China.

Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp. both have announced plans to manufacture consoles in the Shanghai zone with Chinese partners.
