If it doesn't have director commentary on it, nothing doing for me.

Considering how Edgar Wright stuffs his movie's DVD's with so much extra material, you can probably count on more than one commentary popping up.

The DVD will have four commentaries if I remember correctly.

The trailer for this film nearly drove me off when I first saw it. Then I decided to look it up on here. I was surprised to see it was a comic book. That actually got me eager to see the movie.

Yes that trailer. It looked really fucking stupid to me. My sister thought it looked awesome and to her it seemed like something I would like. So I saw the movie because my sister and her boyfriend dragged me along. Movie was pretty good.

I'm quite excited about commentary for this movie. As far as I'm concerned, the director's (and/or actors'/writer's/whatever) commentary is the best part of a DVD after the actual movie.

Complete opposite here - I don't want them to tell me how it was done. Moreover,I don't want them to do it over the movie itself.

I expected to hate this movie as a non-sensical hipster trash movie with Michael Cera playing MICHAEL CERA! But I of little faith was rong to doubt Edgar Wright who I think made a film for an entire generation. It's got an awesome visual style but it's kinda cool with it's whole band-music dynamic thing, combined with the chockfull videogame references.

Now this kind of pop culture laden film might be eventually disliked ala pulp fiction however I thought that the use of such quirky things was really atmosphere building but I can understand if over time those things are lost.

For the most part as I said I love the whole Indy band thing and I love the characters. I especially love Kim Pine for being a redhead, drummer Daria basicly. Kinda pisses me off that she's supposed to be more important.

But yeah this film kinda feels like how the social phenomenon of friends was described; where friends became the new family. In a sense this movie is more than just wooing a girl but a serious look into how a scumball can reform with the help of his quirky friends.

Oh yeah I absolutely love the soundtrack and I this movie is kinda like inspire a hobby kind where I think after this move people may be encouraged to take up musci just as fighting movies encourage peeople to take up martial arts. Which I think might be enough to set it aside from Pulp Fiction adn the likes.

If this movie becomes a cult hit or an irrelevant look into an era that nobody cared about or understood, only time will tell. But I atleast enjoyed it.

Having just watched it recently(legally), the movie went against my expectations for it...except my expectations for this movie was that I'd enjoy it...

And quite honestly, I was shocked, I thought I might like a movie like this, but in the end, something about it just seemed unenjoyable. The amount of drawn out songs were all forgettable. Scott just came out as an asshole even in the end. And...you'd expect any other normal guy to ditch the girl after finding out she's slutty enough to sleep with 11 other guys (the girl is fine). Rather than laughing, you end up feeling sorry for Knives instead. And...vegan power? Many of these things just seem so...so...internet meme-ish. Also, I'm not sure if the "Scott Pilgrim have gained the power of Self-Respect" is meant to be a Crowning Moment Of Awesome, but all I could do was roll my eyes when that happened.

And way too many songs, many of them forgettable. The band just wasn't that good.

Now to the movie's credits, it did have some good bits. The gay guy. Some of the gags were genuinely funny. Those captions. And the first evil ex.

So it probably didn't deserve to bomb like it did. But it certainly wasn't as good as I thought it would be when I saw it's premise. I thought it was going to make me think of The World Ends With You or something along the lines of that.

PS-that said, I didn't see anything wrong with Michael Cera as Scott like many people did......also, I always thought Envy was a male name ever since....

@ Signed well I undestand you reaction because that is what I kinda expected. Michale Cera as a whiny asshole and a film that generally didn't make any sense.

Also I thought the jokes were way too fast. Faster than even in Simpsons and Family Guy which is generally a bad thing because they're just throwing them out.

I can see that Scott being with Ramona would be annoying considering the asian girl Knives. However I thouhg as Knives as a bit too sterotypical and lacking character other than doting cut kung-fu chick. Ramona and Scott are both jerks so they do deserve each other.

The music well again I can see why. I'm not that into indy rock and music in general but they made it seem aweome and cool with the whole band battle and summoning a 30 foot electric Yeti.

But yeah this film has a narrow appeal to people of a specific generation.

Well...Ramona isn't that fleshed out compared to Knives anyways. She's just a slut  *

who jumps from one guy to the next, eventually racking up 12 (EVIL) ex's. Plus, vegan powers?! Vegan police?!

Do I need to hang out in the internet 24/7 in order to understand some of these jokes?

But yeah this film has a narrow appeal to people of a specific generation.

This...probably explained why the film bob-ombed. It has it's moments, but not enough of those moments.

^^ Fine, so Envy's a tad effeminate...

^ No vegan police and super powers makes no sense but does a freakin Indian who summons demon hipster chicks make any more sense? Or Gideon's hammer space powers?

The powers are basicly comic book/ videogame abilities with justa lil extra twist.

[up]IT'S A HERMAPHRODITE. At least in the manga.

And they were SEVEN guys, SEVEN. SEVEN IS NOT SUCH A HUGE NUMBER OF EXES TO ACCUMULATE IN AN ENTIRE MIDDLE-SCHOOL + HIGH-SCHOOL + COLLEGE +`EARLY JOBS PERIOD. THAT'S AT LEAST ONE YEAR PER GUY. THAT'S NOT SLUTTY BY ANY STANDARDS.

What is no slutty but Jerkass is how she dumped them for Man Hands reasons.

^^ Well with the indian thing, you can see where it's sorta coming from. Like how Dhalsim can float and breath fire. And if theres a fighting game with a priest or a nun, their attacks will involve summoning god to fight for them. And a witch doctor will fight with dolls.

Vegan powers and vegan police on the other hand...sounds more like an obscure internet joke. Imagine someone is making a comedy video on Youtube where they cheat in a game, and then some guy walks in calling himself "Internet Police" and starts shooting them for cheating in a game...that's sort of what Vegan Police sounds like to me....guess I'm biased...though not quite sure just what I'm biased against.

^eh, YMMV on the qualifications of a slut I guess. Jumping through one guy a year is pretty slutty in my own opinion.

Also Knives was clearly the better choice

That said, the movie also had way too many unexplained bits sprinkled all around it. What were those dream sequences? What the heck was Nega Scott? Why does everyone have powers? What's with Ramona and Scott going into randomly appearing doors?
