Looks like I'm about the only person who had any problems with this movie. Past 5 the movie just nosedived into the shit for me.
5 and 6 ...were so nothing. It was just special effects thrown up on screen. It was like... "We forgot to actually put anything here so here's a giant yeti fighting a pair of serpentine dragon-y things."
Also 7 was pretty stupid too. The power of love and self-respect both ended up equally useless.
Everything before 5 was absolutely masterful though.
<(-_-<)(>-_-)> "FUSION HA"I hated what they did with 4.
SPGIT was my favorite book of the series because it shows Scott, well, getting it together (getting a job, moving in with Ramona, that badass speech he made that earned him the Power of Love, etc) but all of that stuff was dropped for some Scott Pilgrim Wangst and an okay fight with Roxy.
Even so, it's still a great movie.

^^I do agree with the fight against the Katayanagi twins to be the weakest of the set. They had zero developement in their characters, and it didn't help that they had zero lines (Wright, make sure you get actors who actually speak English next time!}. But I do think the whole "battle of the bands" concept was interesting.
hey, it's difficult to find attractive, Japanese twins with musical talent that can ALSO speak English.
They could have just spoken in Japanese with Subtitles. That could have filled in the geek quota well, wouldn't it?
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Well, what can they add to the whole thing? Even in volume 5, they're presence seemed superfluous to me given that Scott and Ramona's relationship were falling apart without any help from them. It felt like they were just there to serve as Evil Exes 5 and 6, not adding much but filling in the quota.
@Zyxzy: I have to say, I preferred the comics' "Sweet, a song for me" there. Still, it was a hilarious in both versions.

I guess it is.I would have liked to have seen "BABY I WAS BORN TO DESTROY YOU!!" in a visual context.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.You mean a Dialog Box so that it could fill the Video Game Quota.
Wizard Needs Food BadlyI'm going to defend the twins' fight. To pace the overall story properly, some of the fights have to be long and involved, and some of them less so. The story will flow better if there's a "throwaway" fight that's much quicker somewhere in the middle, breaking up the pacing.
\*ahem*
"Gelato isn't vegan?"
"It's milk and eggs, bitch!"
Carry on.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialI actually preferred the twins' treatment in the movie. In the comic, they just use generic martial arts, and fight together. In the film, they can summon dragons with music and blow people away with Pure Awesomeness generated from their keyboards. There's no backstory, sure, but there's not much of it in the comic book anyway.
In the comic, when Kim is kidnapped by them it's never mentioned again, so it doesn't seem like it mattered enough to be included.
I can't pick a favourite line. Anything said by Matt or Gideon. The laser katana was also awesome.
Gideon: You made me swallow my gum... IT'LL BE IN MY DIGESTIVE TRACT FOR 7 YEARS!!!
Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature."PREPARE TO FACE THE WRATH OF THE LEAGUE OF EVIL EXES!!"
Oh man, still can't believe he's gonna be playing Captain America in a little less than a year.

"It's milk and eggs, bitch!"
And then:
"Chicken isn't vegan?"
I dont know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that Lucas Lee Took a Level in Jerkass here.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Routh and Evans have both gotten deserved props for their great ex performances, but the standout for me was Jason Schwartzman. He's never really impressed me in the other stuff I've seen him in, but he absolutely nailed Gideon. I found myself thinking "what a dick". So kudos Schwartzman, this more or less makes up for how disappointed I was by Bored to Death.
Do you want to have sex? I think we should have sex. CASUAL SEX.^^Considering how short the movie was (for a 6-part series, 2 hours is not a lot of time), I think it's for the best. Yeah, Lucas was more of a Jerkass in the movie, but considering how perfect Chris Evans was in the role, I don't mind.
Re the twins' fight: What jewelleddragon said. Though the spectacle of a music-yeti beating a music-dragon was pretty sweet too, and I think spectacle was probably the best element of this movie (snark from the supporting characters is a close second, though).
Productivity is for people without internet connections. -Count DorkuI agree. While I kinda miss how they invited people to watch Scott get beaten up by robots, the actual battle with the twins is far superior.
Whoops.
I mean, the battle in the comics was so forgettable, the most memorable part of it was their double hurricane kick.

Joining just so I can post here right now... Having been three weeks since I watched the movie I admit to parts being a bit fuzzy, but I did manage to find, buy, and read all six volumes of the graphic novel in the past three days. Thinking back I am a bit disapointed in what the movie cut from the novels, but at the same time I'm glad and understand why they did it. I mean, the only way we could have gotten more from the graphic novels into the film and not be cluttered and bogged down was to have two Scott Pilgrim movies with the fight with Todd and Envy taking up the middle portion of the film and the whole Mr. Chau and Roxanne taking up the end of the first. Awesome in theory but that would have increased cost, introduce more side characters that would have fallen by the way side and hurt the films in the end with a mix between having it drag out those fights and rushing to finish them up. Plus the matter of a conclusive ending for the first film to be mucked up by the begining of the second. It still sucks for the Twins though. They should have at least had a few subtitled lines. Still, I feel like the battle of the bands gaint yeit vs twin headed dragon both made of sound was better then the robot fights in the graphic novel.
"WHY DO I KNOW THIS!"- Me, after another bout of exposition of a random topic.
I think what everybody loves about the movie's version of Wallace is how freaking hysterical he is. What made this movie great was how well every actor performed, and Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells was no exception to that. It also helps that he's not a One-Scene Wonder.
But I've never read the comics before, so I can't make an accurate comparison. If the comic's version of Wallace is better, than that's even better for me.
