trying to understand a Miro through a colored fisheye kaleidoscope while high.

That sounds like an interesting experiment.

You'd probably need somebody who wasn't high to write down your analysis, though.

Nice. Well, I respect their abilities to function to that extent under those conditions.

I bet they corrected their grammar after sobering up, though.

Probably. Most of them and the Gonzo types would kill anybody else who tried editing their work, though.

I recently finished the first book. I'll get started on #2 on Shabbat.

Does the trilogy make any less sense as it goes on?

I haven't read it before, but Lull and Jethro have... I would guess that it gets stranger over time, though.

I can read, but I need glasses. I say I need glasses, but I don't actually have glasses. I think I need glasses because of the migraines I keep getting.

Possible, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the book. I'm sure there are C Ds of it, and braille editions.

Though in the CD case, I think it'd be the result of quite a few takes, considering how hard it is to read the book with a straight face.

Understanding Illuminatus through Tzetze is like trying to understand a Miro through a colored fisheye kaleidoscope while high.

This book being what it is, I can't think of anything more appropriate.

Short of maybe washing down a blotter sheet of acid with a fifth of absinthe.

Muldoon will take that bet (that J.M. = Joseph Malik = addressee of the memos), because he knows perfectly well that the Illuminati still being around is ridiculous and that you can't pole-vault ahead of the facts, because he doesn't know what book he's in. So it goes.

Saul says:

1) A building was bombed. The Confrontation office, remember.

2) An executive disappeared three days before. Inference: Something got him, he knew something was coming and ducked out, he killed himself in regret for his actions in Korea.

3) Apparently, the Encyclopedia Britannica (see "boring encyclopedia" in my last entry) is wrong about something, that is to say the Illuminati. Which has never ever happened before ever, so that's kind of suspicious. And since they're wrong about the start, they could be wrong about the end. Gotta say, his logic seems faulty.

Put them together, whaddya get? The Neapolitan theory that the Illuminati got the editor and blew up his office! Case closed. Except wait no.

"An organization that has existed for a couple of centuries minimum and kept its secrets pretty well hidden most of that time might be pretty strong by now." Okay, so he's just believing these things automatically...? Shouldn't superhero policeman be more skeptical? Wild Mass Guessing is no fun if the characters do it. Hmph.

No, seriously, Barney is basically saying "What no" and Saul continues "CONSPIRACY!!!". This is a sixty-year-old man. Perhaps he's gone senile?

I'm a bit burned right now, so this is short.

Seconding Jethro on things getting way weirder later on. Also wanted to say my grammar doesn't suffer a bit from being high (my spelling doesn't either, although now that we have these fancy built-in spellcheckers that doesn't matter so much). I've posted here whilst high a few times and I bet you couldn't tell unless I mentioned it! tongue

First two sentences of the book repeat.

In Las Vegas, there is a person named Carmel. Carmel wasn't staring at the UN building like everybody else - he's blind. Too bad, since heshit has such a great view of the desert from hesheir house. He spent hours watching the wastleand, for some reason that even he didn't know. If you told him that it was because he had turned his back on humanity, he wouldn't have cared. It would be irrelevant to him.. Cocky bastard. But if you added that he was a desert creature, like a gila monster or Nate, he would have classed you as a fool. Can't really blame him. Gila monsters don't have property rights in Nevada.

According to Carmel, most people in the world are fools who don't understand what's really important. "What's really important" being money. Carmel likes the money. He seeks it single-mindedly and likes it that way. And so, he sits, well sat since I just noticed that this is all in the past tense, except for the introduction where Qarim introduced heshitself that was in present tense probably should have mentioned that huh, tallying his take for the month while looking out over the wasteland. Right now he's as happy as a man sitting in a physical and emotional wasteland can be. "His girls" had raked in $46,000 during March (this is April 1, remember the opening sentence?). He gets half of this, $23,000, minus a 10% fee to the Brotherhood for letting him operate with being shotinated by Banana-Nose Maldonado's soldiers, for a profit of $20,700. No taxes of course. This is common Las Vegas business practice, ...Or So I Heard.

Oh, and: Carmel is a five-foot two reincarnation of Napoleon who gets of on money more than he does on his girls. So, an asexual, but a greedy asexual. Is this the future of asexual stereotyping? Or past. Eh.

I gave up on trying to understand the "plot" of Illuminatus maybe halfway through it. Strangely, I enjoyed it much more once I just resigned myself to endless Mind Screw.

no one will notice that I changed this
