Ok it was mentioned there is not a thread for Law Enforcement Officers (LEO for short)and other similar jobs for discussion.
This is for discussing the actual jobs, ranks, training, culture, relations to military bodies that exist, and any other variety of topics that can arise pertaining to the World of Policing.
@BPD - Wow.
The Wire was being gentle with its depiction.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Doesn't the military use laser-tagging devices on firearms during combat simulations between units? Is it generally not considered realistic enough for police use or inappropriate for firearms smaller than an assault rifle?
Fluffy: We use a mix of items. Somtimes it is literally shouting bang on a budget. Other times it is using Blank Adapters and blanks, others is the MILES gear, and then there are Simunitions which are basically black powder paintball.
Who watches the watchmen? An old college drinking buddy of mine joined the Marines, and he said they preferred Simunitions because nothing teaches the importance of utilizing cover like a high-velocity paintball to the face.
For once, a deadly shooting could have been avoided if the police had more military-grade implements.
That's irony for you.
And yes, I am defining the ability to shout "BANG" as a military-grade implement, because apparently law enforcement doesn't have the budget for it.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Just don't let them have the heavy duty stuff, like shouting "Tank!" before bowling somebody over.
Not necessarily that ironic. Kevlar saves lives.
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"Dalian Atkinson thought to be police Taser victim
A Taser was used on the 48-year-old man and after receiving medical help, he was pronounced dead at about 03:00.
Mr Atkinson played for Aston Villa, Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday. During a 16-year career, he also played for Real Sociedad and Fenerbahce, winning one cap for England B. His is best remembered for scoring the Match of the Day goal of the season in the 1992-3 campaign for Aston Villa away at Wimbledon.
Paramedics said the man went into cardiac arrest on his way to hospital. The death has been referred to the police watchdog.
As is normal for these types of incidents.
"As he was being conveyed to Princess Royal Hospital, his condition deteriorated and he went into cardiac arrest.
"Despite the efforts of the crew and hospital staff, it was not possible to save him and he was confirmed dead at hospital, shortly after arrival," he added.
A spokeswoman for the Coroner for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin said: "The death of a man has been reported to the coroner following a police incident."
9 Guilty pleas from some of the Refuge Standoff crowd including making deals with the feds.
Three of the nine were part of leader Ammon Bundy's inner circle. Two of those have negotiated, or are in the process of negotiating, a resolution to a federal indictment in Nevada as well.
Basically these guys only real hope is a trial by jury and/or jury nullification.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotOh God, this is so hilarious.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Federal Judge Refers Sheriff Joe Arpai for criminal prosecution There is more to the article but here is a snippet for you folks.
In making the referral to the United States attorney’s office for criminal contempt charges, Judge G. Murray Snow of Federal District Court in Phoenix delivered the sharpest rebuke against Mr. Arpaio, who as the long-serving sheriff in Maricopa County made a name for himself as an unrelenting pursuer of undocumented immigrants.
Sheriff Arpaio and Chief Deputy Jerry Sheridan “have a history of obfuscation and subversion of this court’s orders that is as old as this case,” Judge Snow wrote in his order.

Who watches the watchmen? That's some cheerful news for once. Now if only France would get it's head out of it's ass with this stuff.
Oh really when?Good stuff.
Don't hold your breath, mate. -_-

France burkini: Highest court suspends ban
Regarding the mayors insisting on keeping the bans in spite of the court rulings, I dunno how this process works in France vs America, but I'm gonna go with "Good luck with that."

Only in France, would they have a law that tells women: "You're not showing enough skin."
Except maybe in Hollywood.
This Space Intentionally Left Blank. So, there was a shooting in Toronto yesterday. 3 dead (all related), suspect in custody. But the weird thing was that the weapon used was a crossbow.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/crossbow-scarborough-deaths-1.3736694
I've also learned that crossbows are perfectly legal to own in Canada, as long as you are 18+ you don't even need a permit. Only one handed and concealable types are prohibited.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. Not the first case of crossbow murders from Canada IIRC either. An uncommon murder weapon though none the less.
Who watches the watchmen?Makes sense in a way. Legal, lethal, pretty easy to operate, not terribly expensive....
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. They are also quite a bit quieter then a fire arm to boot. The accuracy of modern crossbows and their ammo is pretty good as well. The only downside is how long it takes to reload one. But perhaps is the fact they tend to be popular target shooting and hunting weapon in some areas.
Who watches the watchmen?See, my impression is that bows can be as effective weapons as firearms, but that they are much more clumsy to handle.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDepends on the handler.
I still find the use of crossbows for crowd control (and other uses) in China amusing, even if it is effective.

Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleSeptimus: Much like fire arms a bit of practice goes a long way. Though at least with bows you still need some physical strength to draw back even the more capable compound bows.
I am almost surprised we don't see crossbows more often as insurgent weapons. They are a lot easier to get, quiet, simple to operate, and even special forces still tinker with them for that reason.
