Goddammit, apparently the thump is powerful enough to not be affected by the escape sequence code.

Anyway, it's not a meme, it's a function we have on the fora. If you type thump in brackets, your post gets replaced by a message such as the ones above.

It's commonly used when somebody double posts, or they just want to retract their post for whatever reason. It's also used by mods to thump posts that violate the rules of the board.

Some people use it to bump topics, but that's quite incorrect and signals a lack of knowledge regarding the way we do things here on TV Tropes. Very unrefined.
