Electivirus: Big bombastic orchestras you say?

I give you ys008 ~The Final Duel~ from Rosenkreuzstilette.

Electivirus, would you kill me if I said I only had 2 Final Fantasy songs in my playlist?

Normally, yes. But since it's those two, I guess I can let it slide. wink

Speaking of, Floating Continent needs moar love. It's always "Aria Di Mezzo Carattere" this and "Dancing Mad" that. Great songs, don't get me wrong, but I'd take Floating Continent over both of them any day.

-phew- Okay. BTW, are there any other FF songs you'd reccomend? My Square-Enix playlist seems a little small...

(EDIT: to the post below: either one is fine.)

The sealed cave theme from FF 6 is also awesome.

Personally, I prefer songs with big, bombastic orchestras and chorus.

You might like this one, then. And from the same series, this and this and this and this and this and this and this. Remixes count, right?

Oh, and there's something I'm supposed to say, um... ah. TOUHOU HIJACK, LOL!

About the only CDs and soundtracks I own are from video games  *

. I just don't like modern music, mainly because it tends to have lyrics, which I feel is cheating (foreign languages, especially Latin, are usually exempt from this rule). As a result, I've got 13.3 gigs of game soundtracks and fan remixes on me hardrive, accumulated over the years from friends, the internet, and even actual imported CDs.

I tend to go through phases when it comes to interests, and music is no exception. TV Tropes has enriched my life by introducing me to the work of ZUN, but before that I was a big fan of Jeremy Soule and Doyle Donehoo, and before that Yasunori Mitsuda, not to mention my old favorites.

@ Blueeyedrat: I'll try and keep this brief; otherwise, this post'll never end.

Final Fantasy X 2

  • Eternity ~ Memory of Lightwaves. A beautiful violin/piano piece.
    • Besaid is also magnificent, especially when that Spanish Guitar kicks in partway through. Also, not that these versions are not from the OST, but from the official arranged album done with real instruments. I only chose these versions because, well, I love them more than the originals. ^^

From Final Fantasy I:

From Final Fantasy II

From Final Fantasy III

From Final Fantasy IV

Final Fantasy V

Final Fantasy VI

That's all for now. I'll post song recommendations from VII-XII tomorrow; I'm tired. tongue

Some of the original music from Need for Speeds II and III is excellent and sadly overlooked.

@ Blueeyedrat; also, there's some "metal" versions of Final Fantasy songs by The Black Mages, if you're interested in that/haven't heard it yet. See: these three playlists.

@ Electivirus: listened to some of them; downloaded "Memory of the Wind"; will go back and listen to the rest eventually. Oh, and best game over music ever? Are you sure?

@ Allan Aokage: That reminds me, I need to make a "Remixes" playlist eventually.

I have recently fallen in love with the soundtrack for the NES Bram Stoker's Dracula. God...that noise is just wonderful.

So, what's your guys' playlists look like? Here's mine (in alphabetical order, 'cause that's how iTunes arranges them):

  • Kirby (50 songs' worth of Super Star, Air Ride, Adventure and 64.)
  • Mario (45 songs; mainly Galaxy and NSMBWii. And a couple from 64 and Sunshine.)
  • Mario (Misc.) (37 songs; from spinoffs such as Mario Kart and Paper Mario.
  • Miscellaneous (28 songs; mostly Mega Man and Cave Story, but also a few from Ristar, Shadow Of The Colossus, and the Frogger games for the PS 1.)
  • Nintendo (29 songs; Zelda, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and one each from Punch Out!! Wii and StarFox.)
  • Sonic (4th Gen) (64 songs; the classic 2D Genesis games, as well as 3D Blast, CD, and one from Knuckles' Chaotix.)
  • Sonic (5/6th Gen) (32 songs, everything in between; the Adventure games, Heroes, Shadow, Riders, and some from the Saturn version of 3D Blast.)
  • Sonic (7th Gen) (64 songs, the longest and my favorite playlist; Unleashed, 2006, and some from Riders: ZG and Black Knight.)
  • Square-Enix (29 songs; Kingdom Hearts (I & II), Chrono Trigger, and the Final Fantasy games.)
  • Super Smash Bros (38 songs from all 3 games, but mainly Brawl.)

Mine would be: (not in alphabetical order)

  • Persona 3, Persona 3: FES - one of the few pop music that I liked.
  • Persona 4
  • Okami - the 5 disc one
  • Assassin's Creed 2
  • Guild Wars
  • Obscure 2
  • Crisis Core FFVII
  • Echoes of War - from the Blizzard games
  • World of Warcraft
  • A bunch from the Final Fantasy series
  • God of War II
  • Half Life 2, both episodes
  • Silent Hill 4
  • Several music from other various videogames

I also have some VGL music and Play! A Videogame Symphony. I like some of their versions more than the original, actually. Oh and I also love The Adventures of Duane and Brando LP of Devastation. I think it's the only rap music that ever appealed to me.

Those Touhou music from several posts above are epic btw.

Let's see, all the video game music I have on my hard drive at the moment is some Final Fantasy piano stuff, the soundtrack for FFXIII, and some of ZUN's stuff.

Er, at the moment, I've got about 6,500 tracks in 276 albums. Definitely need to do some pruning, though. ^^;

I don't usually use playlists, though. I tend to just listen to whole albums at a time.

But somehow,
