This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

It was January, 2013.

Anyway, if you don't know how to use markup, take the time to learn. Don't leave messes in articles that other people have to fix. See Text-Formatting Rules.

I understand that, but it's hard to fix something when you lose the priviledge to edit when you screw up. I remember what happened now, (well slightly anyway) I was editing a page and I made a mistake and suddenly half the pages markup was incorrect and therefore didn't work, I tried to fix it and it didn't seem to take then I tried to fix it again and my posting privileges had been taken away and I couldn't do anything about it.

I'll be happy to release your suspension now that you understand what the problem is. Our first and most important job as moderators is to prevent damage to the wiki, which means we stop problems first and then deal with the people who caused them.

Also, one wonders why it took you almost two years to appeal. If you were really that interested in editing, you should have talked to us sooner.

Thank you, and to answer your question: I haven't really used the site much since. It takes too long to pull free of it's mezmerizing grasp once you start clicking every other link you see. Looking up from the computer screen at 2 am on a work-knight and realizing you should have gone to bed 3 hours ago is a bit unsettling.

Can I have my suspension lifted please? I'm not sure of what I did but I haven't been able to edit anything for about three weeks.

In the discussion for shipping, necroed an old comment thread with the post "It is also pretty much sums up how pathetically childish shippers are."

I'd just like to know which page I was suspended for. If it was the awesome music page for Kyoryuger, I couldn't find you tube links that weren't taken down. If I know which page the suspension was for I'll avoid posting for that type of page.

edit: I'm pretty sure the suspension was for the kyoryuger awesome music page I created on 11-24-2014, and I think my formatting for the page was the cause. I apologize, that was my first created page rather than simply adding tropes to a page. I will study the formatting rules a little more for any further complete pages I might create. Although truth be told I think I'll stick to adding tropes to a page (less chance for a formatting problem there).

Yes, it was AwesomeMusic.Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, but for the bad grammar you used there.

OK. I understand that that comment was unnecessary and may have offended some, and I apologise for it.

That said, I still find the general concept of shipping very disturbing, and I should have the right to hold that opinion, however unpopular it may be. I have yet to understand why millions of people online believe fictional character relationships to be of such monumental importance, and it has been known to reach levels that some, such as myself, find childish.

No, nobody is allowed to express opinions in such a manner here. TV Tropes is supposed to be a friendly, collegial place, not a place for insulting.

I know now the suspension was for the kyoryuger awesome music page I created on 11-24-2014.I'm sorry, I thought the grammar was adequate for the page, but again it was the first complete page I had created on this site. I will study the formatting rules a little more for any further complete pages I might create. Although truth be told I think I'll stick to adding tropes to a page (less chance for a grammar problem there).

I await your judgement on how long my suspension lasts...

I wasn't saying "I have the right to insult people" I was saying that I have the right to have an opinion on something. I apologised for the "pathetic shippers" comment and I won't express it again.

I'm sorry, but I don't know why I've had my editing privilege taken away. I've looked over the reasons and couldn't find anything that I've done and have received no message about it. The only thing that comes to mind is the removal of Femenist Frequency from the Straw Feminist page, and the reason I did that was because I felt it could lead to unfortunate editing wars being started. As I mentioned, Anita is someone with a very controversial reputation, and my own personal opinion of her notwithstanding, I felt as if someone would add something treading towards a real life example or just putting something there about her that would cause one group or another to take things the wrong way. I had the best intentions in mind, and merely wanted to avoid a possible clashing of viewpoints. Aside from this, I can't think of any other possible reason why this happened, so could I have an answer of sorts please?

~amam0t0: The whole page, every last bit of it that you wrote, had to be scrapped and written over from scratch. You must improve the quality of your writing if you want to edit wiki articles.

~TT454: You know what they say about opinions, right? note  You are welcome to your opinion, but you are encouraged to keep it to yourself if it's going to result in blatantly insulting Discussion posts like the one you made.

~Scabex615: The example that you deleted was not opinion; it was a factual use of a trope. You don't get to decide all by yourself what is and is not appropriate for people to read on the wiki. If you have a concern, you should ask the troper body — there are a whole host of ways to do this, like the Discussion pages, Ask The Tropers, or here on the forums.

In particular, we have been forced by events to adopt a zero tolerance stance to anyone deleting information or making opinionated edits about certain controversial gaming and gaming journalism individuals. Using TV Tropes' wiki articles to carry out any sort of personal agenda or argue for a point of view in these matters is forbidden.

~Karl Groucho Marx: Working on it, back to you shortly.

~gwy123: You haven't been indexing articles that you create despite being messaged about it. See How Indexing Works for instructions.

~Scarlett White: Hello. While we welcome newcomers to our site, we want you to make an effort to follow our rules and guidelines. You've been making a ton of mistakes, most prominently natter and first-person writing. We don't want our editors inserting comments and opinions in articles; it makes the wiki look like a forum.

You're also making mistakes in link formatting (see Text-Formatting Rules), and your grammar is problematic as well.

I see. I was trying to look at things from a neutral standpoint when editing that page, but I understand where the problem lies with my removal of that example. I would like to make it clear though that I wasn't trying to push an agenda of sorts or anything like that, it just felt like Anita being on the page at all would cause unfortunate edits to start from either her supporters or the people against her. I was more worried about what could happen instead of thinking about why the example was there, and that was clearly a mistake. I acted before thinking over things enough. I won't make this mistake again, and if given the chance to edit again I'll return the example to it's place if it hasn't been already.

fair enough but how will I be able to prove my writing style has improved if I can't show with an edit how it has. And at this point I'm sticking to singular trope additions rather than a whole page. I had no problems on my grammar when it was a trope in a page (see fanfic/A Fool Named Fortune for some of them), but it seems my limit is that. You have made the point, I WON'T be attempting a whole page again.

Scarlett, you have to address the issues that led to the suspension, in @7443.

Karl Groucho Marx, the staff has a lot of issues on the plate right now. Sometimes stuff gets delayed.

amam, improving your writing in your appeals posts might be a good first step. We do have a grammar help thread.
