Saw this posted on the anime/manga Chatterbox thread. Made Of Win to the Nth degree.

Arha the only reason I decided to read Tsukihime was because of Carnival Phantasm.

I think that my dislike for Heaven's Feel has increased over time.

I was positively surprised by Heaven's Feel, since I wasn't expecting much out of Sakura's route given her appearances in the other two. In terms of writing quality, it was at least on the level of the other two, but I enjoyed it the least, both because I felt betrayed by Shiki giving up on his conviction to help everyone, and because it made me feel bad about the other routes retroactively.

Type-Moon's games contain a lot of gut punches for me, since characters who ask for little and get even less are one of my weak points.

I think you meant Shirou. Heaven's Feel would be better if Sakura was more interesting. I don't think she deserves the vitriol she gets from some parts of the fanbase but personality-wise, she's pretty boring compared to Saber or Rin.

True, I found Sakura pretty boring compared to Rin or Saber, though Imist say she got more interesting in Hollow...

Still she was really boring in HF, especially her relationship with Shirou. I frankly found her interactions with Rin to be way more interesting.

I agree with what you said about Shirou. Him giving up on his convictions felt very off-putting, especially since seeing him fight so hard for them was my favourite part of UBW. I often think it would have been better if they reworked the game so that UBW was the last route instead.

HF would have been better with a more interesting heroine. She didn't feel like much of a character to me so much as a pity repository and plot device. This didn't occur to me at the time so much as an opinion I've realized after seeing her behavior in FHA and Carnival Phantasm. It makes me appreciate Kohaku being turned into a crazy hyperactive loon, in a way.

HF is still my second favorite route though. Kotomine, Rider and Ilya are just too awesome not to love.

I don't mind Sakura as a character, and I'd say that she's more than a pity repository in Heaven's Feel, but she's certainly not a heroine the way Rin and Saber are. The most interesting parts involving her are where you see inside her head and get a sense of just how fucked up she is. Interesting, but pretty unpleasant.

Whereas the sex scenes in Fate and Unlimited Blade Works mostly just left me bemused at their purpleness, the ones in Heaven's Feel made me kind of uncomfortable. Not that it would have been a good idea for Shirou to refuse, but there's a fairly visceral reaction going on there.

What Nasu should have done is make Illya the heroine, while keeping the whole Sakura plot.

Kotomine, Rider and Ilya are the only reasons I got through that route.

I really don't want to see Ilya sex scenes.

If there were Ilya sex scenes, then the page probably would have been removed.

It's a good thing that Nasu decided against a bad end where Illya raped Shiro.

I can forgive Ilya for the stuff she pulled in her Bad Ends, I can even feel a bit sorry for her, but I cannot be induced to feel protective of her.

You know, I forgot that there would have to be sex scenes

Personally speaking, Heavens Feel is my favorite route because I like Psychological Horror, Kotomine and Illya were awesome, glorious Yandere Sakura near the end, that Mapo Tofu scene, and one awesome bad ending.

It had some of the most boring moments in the game, but it also had some of the best.

Probably for the reason Kotomine states. "We don't care about your problems, quit killing everybody because your sister doesn't love you."

Yeah, best scenes of the novel in a fairly average route.

True. Again, I'm just speculating why people might not feel sorry for her. I don't feel sorry for her because I've been desensitized by /a/'s "Have fun in London" comments.

Really? Frankly, I try to ignore what /a/ says unless it has some value.

I don't really know. I think it's because she never once tried to change anything, and yes I do know that true to life in many rape victims, but I just can't sympathize with her. She never once tries to change anything.

She does try to change things, as soon as she gets the power. Which happens to be accompanied by going bugfuck crazy. Maybe she wouldn't have tried to change things if she'd gotten the power without going (more) crazy, maybe she would have, but before that, what could she have done?

I did enjoy her crazy form when she was merging or whatever with what's his face. Ripping the worm out is her best moment in the series. Too little too late though. The route was way too long, and by that point I hated her so much by that point I can't think of what she could have done to make me care about her.

What can she really change when Zouken could kill her in a moment?

I love the voices in every game. They make up a lot of the experience for me. I never turn them off. I mean, it just brings in so much more into the character. At least for me it does.
