Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Ritz later ties it into a desire to not have the hair that causes her mother so much distress (the hair causes bullying for Ritz that causes stress for her mother), but you'd think someone would ask "Where's your mother now?" or something.
I have a message from another time...All the debate about Marche is probably the one thing that sticks out to me about that game.
It was my first Final Fantasy, so it has a special place in my heart. I'd fix the accuracy and law systems and it'd be perfect. TA 2 did some things better, some worse.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I loved how A2 did away with most Dispatch missions in favor of playing the fights.
I have a message from another time...Sephiroth, Kuja, Kefka, Exdeath, Zeromus? Yeah, those guys want to destroy the world and are pretty definitively evil.
Marche? Marche isn't trying to end the world. Everyone he knows has pretty much been sucked into a magic Lotus-Eater Machine - and that we know of, only a handful of people are actually in situations that they think are advantageous. Think of it like an entire community being forced into some kind of... shared, mutual LSD trip, whether they like it or not. Marche? He's the only one who is both functional enough to try and wake everyone up, and is actually in a position where he can do so. He's not trying to end the world. He's the only one trying to fix it.
If Ritz is that insecure about her hair color, then - the size of St. Ivalice notwithstanding - why can't she dye it in the real world? Or consider getting a wig?
Now, I have heard the argument that "Ivalice was real to the Bangaas and Moogles and whatnot inside it!"
If a guy on an LSD trip hallucinates a sugarplum faerie, loses his balance, and then says that the faerie punched him, then is it reality that he got knocked over by a faerie mugger? Or is it reality that he fell over of a mundane, non-faerie-related cause?
She can and does dye it. Used to be that her mother did, and Ritz was fed up about how sad her mother was about the situation.
I have a message from another time...If I can ever finish my college english paper, I will see about starting a new file of TA so I can newly observe the details and report on them.
TA 2 did away with the Rocket-Tag Gameplay nature of TA, but it went a bit overboard if you ask me. For the first several missions, you'll need your entire team whaling on an enemy before they can be taken down. And even afterwards, the balance is spotty. I've been toying with learning how to do a ROM hack and fix some of the balance issues in TA 2.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.So because they're the inhabitants of a fantasy world, they don't get any say in whether or not their home gets destroyed and they all die? Because those weren't random hallucinations, they were real people with histories and families, and you slaughtered them all without a second thought because "lol, not real".
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatWere they really destroyed? TA 2 and FFXII shows that Ivalice is alive and well.
IIRC, XII and Tactics' Ivalice is not TA's Ivalice.
Anyway, it's a bit beside the point because as far as Marche and everyone else knew, the world would disappear. the fact that it continued to exist afterwards was something they were not expecting.
They tell me that it's not the same Ivalice. I prefer to think that it is the same Ivalice, and that Marche is spending the rest of his days in prison for his crimes.
That screams of one of a few Ass Pulls made to justify the postgame, sequels, and try and quell the accusations of making a game justifying genocide.

Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatIt's NOT the same Ivalice. TA's Ivalice is apparently based on Final Fantasy XII, which is the game Mewt was referring to the in the beginning of the game according to word of god.
...damn, this is making me want to play ffxii, but i want to play it through zodiac job system edition ):
Saying that they did it to try and quell the accusations of making a game justifying genocide makes 0 sense because they don't believe they made one in the first place.

But how can he when he clearly went to the real world?
Broad Strokes. Marche did go on to the final battle, but he lost, and Mewt and the book repaired the damage Marche's assault did to the world.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatAre you ignoring TA 2 too, because Mewt exists in the real world there. If he's in there, Marche and Ritz probably went home too. Mewt thought Marche was right in the end and was prepared to go home. that's canon.
I mean you can believe whatever makes you feel better, but nothing in the game really justifies what you want to believe happened.

Yeah, you're past the point of Alternate Character Interpretation and well into insisting you are right and canon is wrong. Not much more to do there.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.So Two-Fisted Monkey Style Attack?

While we're on the subject on Tactics games, i'm pretty sad they have yet to make another. Matsuno said he wanted to make a prequel to FFT starring Barnaneth IIRC, but tbh I'd prefer a straight up sequel with a different story and characters but similar dark fantasy/political intrigue. or just another TA game, that would be just fine by me too.
Like Ninety, the first TA holds a very special place in my heart, poorly-crafted story aside. I love the colorful art style, the gameplay, and the cheerful, whimsical soundtrack never fails to make me nostalgic.
I'll continue thinking that, so I can pretend the genocidal dream-crushing asshole lost like he should have and now spends the rest of his days rotting in prison, having alienated all of his friends and his brother and made himself a hated war criminal to the general populace of Ivalice. Let him ramble on about his fantasy world to someone who cares.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatOkay. Fine. Are you done? Can we talk about anything else now?

I have a message from another time...Okay, yeah, you have a Character Derailment boner for Marche. We get it.
In other news, things happened and now I have to start my FF 4 DS file newly from scratch. -_- At least I managed to learn some tricks that should make getting through the earlygame a bit more feasible...
final fantasy iv ds i got very far into, but never finished it. i'm contemplaying buying it on steam and starting fresh or just seeing if my old file is still there and just finish it.
Dang, that sucks. I hope you can keep your file this time.

I have a message from another time...
That's actually another thing, on the whole I think the game did a poor job with portraying the kids' lives and giving them sympathetic reasons to stay in Ivalice (or in marche's case, go home). Mewt and Doned I can kinda buy, since the former has a listless drunk for a father/is bullied and probably has no real friends, and the latter can't walk, but ritz's motivation is "i like the way my hair looks in this world better".
on the whole i just feel it was poorly thought out.
