From the entry below, it seems like this is a very meta example: the customer isn't embarrassed, but was intentionally trying to embarrass the clerk, and is annoyed at having embarrassed the wrong clerk. I suppose out of context it gives an idea of what the trope looks like, but it seems like a strange choice to illustrate?
My posts make considerably more sense read in the voice of John Ratzenberger.
