Policy update: Tropers pages and kinks/fetishes

I'm starting a new thread to expand a policy discussion from here.

We are considering clarifying our rule about Fetish Fuel and "pervy" troping to include Tropers pages. In other words, we would ask for the voluntary removal of any self-troping of fetish- or kink-related content. If someone is suspended and unable to edit their own Tropers page, or refuses to do so, we would remove it ourselves.

This isn't about kink-shaming; it's about complying with our existing rules about sexual content. We don't allow fetish threads on the forums and we removed Fetish Fuel from the wiki proper ages ago.

Consensus has already been established among the moderators and among the contributors to the moderation thread, but this topic is for general comments.

Please do not rush to report people, and do not harass other tropers. Nobody will be "in trouble" unless they blatantly refuse to comply with the policy. Rather, we would like to see self-moderation.

Addressing questions in the header post:

• "Simping" and shipping are not inherently pervy unless they get too graphic. "I ship Ahsoka and Anakin," or, "I have a celebrity crush on Michael Fassbender," are fine. Going into detail about what you'd like to do to them in bed is not.
• Author Appeal is also not inherently bad. If you really enjoy putting pencils in your work, share away. But if those pencils go somewhere inappropriate, please don't tell us.

As I have said in the other discussions, I am 100% on board with such an idea.

I don't mind such a policy existing. However what does this mean for people who confess for being "simps" on their Troper pages like myself?

Agree.

I feel like being a "simp" is much different from talking about, say, the sort of porn you like.

i would think it's fine as long as you don't go into nauseating detail, which you don't.

By the way Fighteer, do you think this should be advertised in ATT?

I mean, a Celeb Crush or a waifu mention should probably be fine, but definitely not fetish stuff. No Tropers/ page should be flagged by Google for sexual content. I support this.

Probably worth making an ATT post. I'm already way more distracted from my work by this than I prefer, so someone else can do that.

Ah that's good to hear lol. Got concerned since I heard about some people proclaiming themselves to be simps being... really passionate about somebody if you get what I mean.

For the record, I list some examples of Author Appeal in my Tropers page, but not in a fetish context.

Read both sides of the discussion (here and the moderation forum side) and I agree wholehearthedly. I even expected it to be a rule already. But hey, better late than never, right?.

Frankly, I thought it was a rule, or at least implied. But apparently we gave people too much credit.

I mentioned it in the moderation discussion thread, but I wanted to repeat here that I support having such a rule.

I previously mentioned to the other mods that I support such a rule, so I'll make my approval of the rule public by posting it here.

should reports on this subject be made private to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to inappropriate content and to protect the dignity of those involved?

e: asking as a general principle, not because i have someone in mind to report.

If the rule takes place I think such problems can be dealt with private ATT like usual.

Private is probably better, to protect the dignity of all involved. No need to make a big deal out of it.

I'll echo what I said back in the moderation thread, not to kinkshame, but broadcasting personal fetish fuel to tropers who may not want to see it is going to make everyone have a bad time.

I'm kinda okay with the rule, myself.

TBF, I neither use my troper page nor read those of others, so I don't really think the risk of people stumbling onto more information than they'd want to know is really that high.

That said I also don't see this rule doing any harm, so I'm not objecting to it.
