If anyone has thought of any crowner options, please post a list of them.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Upvote to maintain and downvote to remove from conditions.
- A button should be recurring/consistent.
- The response should be disproprtionate / temporary Unstoppable Rage.
- The nature of the button is oddly specific/absurd/minor, instead of being directly insulted/upset/threatened, which would make angry anyone.
- A character can only have 1-2 buttons, otherwise it's Hair-Trigger Temper.
- A character should be happy/stoic normally and anger is atypical/out-of-character.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupCrowner hooked with the above options
Just stating for the record that a upvoted all of them.
Might be worth considering giving BB a name better reflecting it's intended use (like "Trivial/Arbitrary Berserk Button").
Renaming is off the table. We are only discussing redefining the trope and rewriting the description on this thread.
Macron's notesThat's a lot of votes by now.
I wonder if the downvoted option is Beware the Nice Ones actually.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupRegarding the one that says direct insults don't count, could an exception be made when only a specific type of insult triggers the Berserk Button? For example, someone who will laugh off most mockery, except for insults about his hair, which make him fly into a blind rage.
I mean, that's what the trope mostly is already.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI think that is acceptable.
One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.Calling in favor of the following applying to the definition:
- The response to a press of the button should be disproportionate and/or temporary Unstoppable Rage.
- The nature of the button is oddly specific/absurd/minor, not something that would make any person angry (such as threatening a loved one, making a direct insult).
- A character can only have one or two buttons. Any more and the character has a Hair-Trigger Temper.
- A button should be recurring/consistent.
The following was downvoted and thus does not need to apply:
- A character should normally be happy, calm, or stoic, and anger is atypical/out-of-character.
The description probably needs to be adjusted, so get a sandbox if necessary. After that, everything else will be deferred to the cleanup thread instead of TRS.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. Will it still count if the button being recurring/consistent is an Informed Attribute? I.E. we only see it in one episode but another character says something like "Never do this to them, they always get upset"?
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.^ Sounds like a discussed version.
Implied, more like.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessIt would be stated to be the trope and we'd see the reaction, so "discussed" feels more likely since the "button" part is what's informed.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. So, any ideas on how to rewrite the description to better fit the new requirements. I notice that Sandbox.Berserk Button (which was made when this thread was sent back to LTP) has some notes on it.
Macron's notesIn light of the redefinition, I wanted to ask about this entry on The Whiskey Vault:
- Berserk Button: It's repeatedly made clear that while good-natured ball busting among their friends and fans is allowed and even expected, the one thing that neither Daniel nor Rex will abide is genuine whiskey snobbery, i.e. actually putting people down for their preferences.
I didn't really think it fit when I originally added it, but I was at a loss as to what else it could fit. With the redefinition, it really doesn't fit; does it fit something else, or should it just be removed?
Everyone Has Standards, maybe?
Absolute destiny... apeachalypse? Is the new definition any different? All of it seems more-or-less the same.
It mostly is, yeah.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWe just adjusted it a bit so we could begin cleanup, as well as definitively nail it down. Speaking of, is it time to move back to the cleanup thread and get to work?
One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.Think so.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Don't we have to tweak the description first?
Macron's notesDo we? The only change is that the character doesn't need to be normally calm and nice.
