[The last thing you remember was watching the news.]

[A psychotic cult calling itself "the Virus Fragments" was quickly rising in numbers and wreaking havoc on the city. The main building of the renowned MAE Robotics and AI Institute had been set ablaze, its trusty administrator nowhere to be found. You had initially dismissed this as fearmongering, the mainstream media blowing things way out of proportion as usual—until the Fragments broke down your door. What happened next went too fast for you to process; all you can remember is onw of them shooting you in the eye with a blow dart, and then blacking out.]

[Now, you've found yourself shocked awake, crudely tethered to the wall with electric wires. Several others are there with you, some conscious, some unconscious, all hooked up to those tubes. The room is dim, lit only by the occasional candle. Where the hell are you?]

[Suddenly, you hear footsteps. Looking up, you find a staircase on the opposite side of the room, with two sharply dressed individuals descending it. The copious red accents on their clothing betrays them as Fragments—were they the ones who brought you here?]

[The man with the mustache is the first to speak, his glasses flickering menacingly in the candlelight.]

Welcome to .EXE! MadameButterflyKnife will be co-hosting this round with me. This'll be fun.

.EXE is basically a combination of an RTD and a mafia game.

• At the beginning of the game, anywhere between 1-4 people are chosen to be The Virus. At night, they will choose one (1) person to infect and kill by PMing me.^note If there is more than one Virus, they must talk to one another and decide on who to kill. They can only kill one person per night. What happens next will be decided by a roll of the dice:
  • If the Virus rolls higher than the person they're attempting to infect, the victim will die.
  • If the rolls are equal, the victim becomes assimilated into the Virus.
  • If the Virus rolls lower than the intended victim, the infection fails.

• During the day, the crew members will investigate the area and discuss who could be the virus. This is where the RTD aspect comes in—thanks to the destructive effects of the virus, whether you find evidence or not will be determined by a roll of the dice, as seen here:

• At any point during the day phase (barring Day 1 for obvious reasons), you may choose to vote for someone to be executed. Whoever gets the most votes will be removed from the game, and their role will be revealed.

• The Virus wins if the number of surviving members are equal or greater than the number of innocents. The innocents win by voting off all members of the Virus.

Roles

Now that we’re in round 3, I’ve thought up even more roles for both sides, and some that could be either!

• INNOCENT
  • Investigator: You have a keen eye and a strong heart, and you are quick to notice when something goes wrong. +1 to rolls involving seeking evidence or looking for people/corpses.
  • Orator: Through precise development of your public speaking skills, you’ve grown to be very persuasive. +1 vote during the voting phase.
  • Medic: Your faith in humanity and unwavering optimism have led you down the path of medicine; just be careful to keep your naïveté in check! May choose to protect someone from death/infection during the Night Phase, including yourself; if you accidentally protect a Virus, however, the Virus redirects it’s aggression towards you. If the Sharpshooter shoots whoever you're trying to protect, you die as well.
  • Soulmates: From the moment you two locked eyes with one another, you both knew you were meant to be together till death do you part. If one Soulmate dies or is executed, so is the other. If one Soulmate becomes infected, the other reverts to a normal Patron.
  • Patron: All you wanted was a quiet life, and you’ve been roped into this Virus chaos without any way to protect yourself. No special abilities.
• VIRUS/CULT
  • Progenitor: You were the one who proposed this idea to Hercules and Michi in the first place; as a result, your fellow cultists answer to you and you alone, as per their request. You have the final say in who to kill/infect; however, you are forbidden from killing anyone yourself unless you are the only Virus left. In addition, if you die somehow (execution or a well-timed Sharpshooter bullet), the game ends in an automatic win for the Innocents.
  • Disguise Master: Uh-oh! It looks like being outed as a member of the cult will end very badly for you—surely, there’s some way out of this, hm? Twice per game, may freely use any non-infected's ability. Otherwise, is a normal Infected.
  • Ninja: With a heart as black as shadow, you strike at the best opportunity and leave nothing behind. Once and only once per game, may kill someone without leaving any evidence, not even a body. This kill will not be affected by a roll of the dice.
  • Infected: Your vision goes red as flickering white numbers surround the borders—who’s going to be the next victim? May kill/infect one person per night. Simple enough. Any innocents who become infected will, well, become Infected.
• AMBIGUOUS (can be on either side)
  • Sharpshooter: You've trained yourself in all manners of firearms, but you've vowed to yourself only to kill those you have a good reason to; I wonder what would happen if you broke that vow. May kill a player of your choosing at night once per game; this kill cannot be prevented by the Medic's protection or the Paranoid's survival techniques, and will not be affected by a roll of the dice. If you are an innocent and you shoot another innocent, however, you will commit suicide instead.
  • Hypnotist: Perhaps you've been in contact with the supernatural, or maybe you're just that good at sleight of hand; in any case, you've mastered the art of plunging people into an unbreakable slumber. May non-lethally hypnotize one player per night, making them unable to use their ability. If you are among the Infected, you are unable to kill.^note Normally, I would say "unless you're the only Virus left", but since the game automatically ends if the Progenitor dies, that would be pointless.
  • Paranoid: For your entire life, you waited for this moment, and now you can finally put your survival stratagems to work. Twice per game, may prevent any other player from using their abilities on you except the Sharpshooter.

Rules

They're fairly similar to Awe's own Mafia game, as are a lot of things about this game, but I'll put them here too just for simplicity's sake.

1. Stylize your votes like "/vote ThisPerson", or "/vote skip" if you choose to abstain. Votes can be freely changed until the end of the day phase or until a majority is reached.
2. If you sign up, then for all intents and purposes, you must participate until you die. If, for whatever reason, something comes up that prevents you from being an active participant, PM me and I will remove you from the round. If you don't post for 48+ hours without giving me a reason for your absence, you will be removed from the round.
3. No cheating. If you are caught cheating, you will be removed from the current round and banned from the next one.
4. Dead people can't post in this thread. You are still free to spectate, however.
5. Editing posts is strongly discouraged, as it can be used to hide important information. You can just as easily make a second post correcting anything that was wrong in the first one.
6. Directly quoting anything I PM you, in or out of this thread, without my permission will fall under the "cheating" rule. The first offense will result in a warning, the second removal and a ban. Creating false PMs is even worse, and will get you banned without a warning.
7. Stalling. Try not to do it. If nobody is killed or lynched over the duration of 2 days and 2 nights total, I will give the victory to whichever side caused a death last (innocents if the last death was a lynching, Viruses if the last death was an infection).
8. Viruses can be as simple or as verbose in their decision to kill someone as they want. You can just tell me "I'll kill X in the living room", or you can write me a paragraph describing the crime in excruciating detail, or anywhere in between.
9. Aside from deadlines, day phases end approximately an hour after a majority vote is reached, and night phases end when all roles with nighttime abilities use them. Easy enough.
10. If the pace of the game is too quick, I will install a slowmode.
11. You can't sign up as a character you used in the round immediately preceding the current round. Palette swaps, Captain Ersatzes, etc. that barely change anything about the character you used in the last round aren't allowed either.

• 11b. However, characters that showed up in other previous rounds are allowed, even if they died. You don't even have to come up with a good explanation as to why the fuck they're back to life, if you don't want to.

what if group characters (aka more than 1 character) are 'life linked', as in

if one of the characters in a group gets killed the other literally blows up (or dies)

for future rounds, yes—this is just a testing of the concept, so for now there will only be innocents and viruses, but for Round 2 there will definitely be roles
