Overshadowed By Controversy Cleanup

I've noticed that OvershadowedByControversy.Video Games lists Guild Wars 2. While I'm not super familiar with that game, I don't remember hearing anything about this controversy anywhere. I mainly know it for apparently being a highly-acclaimed MMO. The example is also not listed on YMMV.Guild Wars 2, and it seems like it's never been on that page.

• Guild Wars 2 is a well-respected Massively Multiplayer Action RPG, but for those who don't play MMOs, they will recognize it thanks to the incident that started when writer Jessica Price started a fight on Twitter with various followers and a company-sponsored streamer known as Deroir after he politely wanted to refute her claims that writing for MMO player characters was harder than in a standard RPG. When the conversation spiraled out of control, writer Peter Fries chimed in and attempted to defend her and her aggressive responses, only leading to more debate and fighting. Eventually, the controversy was heard by ArenaNet CEO Mike O'Brien who immediately fired both of them with him claiming that they had violated company policy regarding how to communicate with fans. This led to Jessica denouncing her firing by claiming that her firing set a precedent that if Reddit wanted a female developer fired, companies would comply, thus making the industry more female-hostile than it already is currently.

This is not really a major controversy. It's not even mentioned in The Other Wiki.

In my opinion, I'd cut it. I'd wait for more opinions first though.

I agree but I would also rather wait for more opinions first.

I would say cut it also from what I am reading. Doesn't sound like the type for this trope in question.

• Overshadowed by Controversy: Following the release of The Day My Arm Went Psycho, Lottie Bourne taking over the role of Tari was tainted by many fans because at the time Celeste Notley-Smith wasn't aware of the change, add the fact that Glitch Productions didn't even let her know. Needless to say, Robyn Barry-Cotter expressed disapproval to the point where she stepped down from the role of SMG2.

The controversy just erupted yesterday, but from what I've seen across the other pages, I've seen a notable uptick of complaining over there. In addition to remove this, is it ok to request an temp lock?

I don't know why the NREP warnings just don't go through on OBC...

If you want to request a lock, you'll have to do it in the relevant thread. I personally think it might be effective with regards to curbing the discourse in the short term.

You don't need to ask to cut examples that break the NREP or other objective rules.

Is this example from YMMV.Looney Tunes Cartoons valid? I'm asking because I don't think it is from what I've seen but I wanted to try to check to make sure.

If people keep ignoring the NREP, the trope might need TRS. Perhaps a rename that makes it clear the trope is supposed to apply in hindsight.

It's not about hindsight, just about giving the controversy time to settle since of course people will think about the hot new controversy on the block. I don't see how a rename would help much.

The "Sadly" sounds like editorializing.

I've only seen that argument come up in one really, really angry rant added to the SBIH pages, which also insulted everything else about the show. From what I see (albeit having dropped out of cartoon communities for the most part), it's mostly seen as just a modern Looney Tunes show, with maybe some controversial censorship but still regarded pretty well by fans.

There's also the fact they both got them back later (Elmer in the short "Rotund Rabbit" and Sam in Space Jam: A New Legacy) so it's a complete non-issue. Pretty much every time I see the series get brought up it's usually to praise the animation/comedy without the guns even getting so much as a mention. That example is clearly an outdated, knee-jerk reaction that can easily be cut.

A few posts ago, some Dragon Ball entries were brought to the thread due to most of the entries bar the second one being misuse. Among those entries was one about Kenji Yamamato's plagiarism scandal, which isn't a controversy that overshadows Dragon Ball Z Kai, but instead a controversy that Yamamoto himself. Due to that fact, I've drafted an entry for him, but first I want to know if my entry is a valid example and good enough to put on a page.

• Kenji Yamamoto is a Japanese composer who was once best known for his involvement in the creation of the soundtracks for various pieces of Dragon Ball media, such as Dragon Ball Z Kai and the Budokai series of video games. These days, however, Yamamoto is better known for the accusations of plagiarism that were made against his work during the airing of Dragon Ball Z Kai, his subsequent firing by the Toei Company and the replacement of his tracks in re-releases of Dragon Ball media as a result of the plagiarism accusations.
