Transplant Transsexual to Transgender

The moderation staff has decided, in the face of overwhelming consensus from the troper community, to permit the rename of Transsexual to Transgender across the wiki. There seems to be no point in going through TRS, so this topic is for coordinating the wick transplant.

Action items and notes:

• Make sure to move the actual article, leaving Transsexual as a redirect.
• Make sure to move any subpages (none currently other than the Useful Notes article, which is already at the correct title).
• The fact of the use of the word "transsexual" is not to be expunged. It can and should be mentioned in the article as an older term that is now considered offensive. The redirect should also remain for searching and inbounds.
• As with any potentially offensive term, when the word is part of a direct quote from a work or creator (such as in The Rocky Horror Picture Show), it should remain. This is not license to arbitrarily censor it.

It occurs to me it may be worth checking the wicks for UsefulNotes.Transgender on work pages for any instances that was used as a trope link, in case people used it in place of the Transsexual trope.

As of 2018-04-09 9:23 EDT:

• Transsexual wick count: 1388
• UsefulNotes/Transgender wick count: 131

As suggested, the latter should be inspected and changed to the correct article if they're being used in examples or example text.

I'll change the text on a few pages I know of.

I'll work my way upwards for a while until I get bored.

I'll reword the wicks that I come by.

Quick tip which has come up in a few edits so far, BTW: Remember that transsexual can be used as a noun, but transgender can't (it's always an adjective that's attached to someone's gender).

So if you come across an example that says something like "a transsexual who..." it needs rewording to be grammatically correct (simply changing it to "transgender woman/man/person" should do).

EDIT: Phrases like MtF Transsexual and FtM Transsexual can be changed to transgender woman (or trans woman) and transgender man (or trans man) respectively (note that they're separate words) to make the sentence flow properly.

I'll check the wicks in the Useful Notes page since it's small enough that we can get it out of the way easily first.

According to Administrivia, a moderator has to be the one to do the transplant and subpage move, so until then it's probably best to focus on the wicks and make sure to keep an explanation on the older term "transsexual" on the Main page. Before the Trope Transplant actually happens, the wicks need to be mostly all changed as well, I assume?

Actually, it doesn't matter in this case, and mods aren't always required to move an article. Copy the text, edit the redirect, paste it in, save, change the original page to a redirect, fix the page type, update indexes. Mods have to copy the discussion, and we'd be involved if either of the articles were locked or did not exist and were in the Main namespace. Otherwise, you're free to do it.

On Useful Notes pages, should it be changed to transgender or stay UsefulNotes.transgender?

Generally, Useful Notes pages should reference other Useful Notes pages unless they're explicitly talking about the trope.

Main article moved, I'm checking all that other stuff now.

Edit: Discussions need to be moved as well, and it looks like it's already been put into the right page type. I believe the indices are correct as well, minus the wicks in related content which now shows /Transsexual as having 700~ and the total for both to be around 1,400 (So the two terms are about on equal wick numbers now).

Should Archive.Ad Of Win Archive 2010 have the pothole in one of the conversations changed, or should it stay since the page itself is an archive?

One is an archive (and thus doesn't need editing), the other is a main link to something called "The Rainbow Trilogy", which just shows a disambig page, so I'm assuming it's a glitch of some sort.
