HiOne of my first forays into the internet was participating in round-robin storytelling forums. In hindsight they were made by other teens with a pretty weak grasp of what makes a good piece of writing, so everyone was trying to out-do the next with fancy and exotic words and metaphors to the point where we started having to scour the dictionary just to tell what the last writer was trying to say.

I remember that I learned the word "fanatic" from a Calvin and Hobbes strip. When I tried to read it out loud, I pronounced it "FAN-uh-tic". My dad corrected me and told me what it meant. "Humans and robots living together in harmony and equality. That was my ultimate wish."
