Interesting that the Unfamiliar Ceiling reference comes from Evangelion but it’s not listed as an example there. It’s not a great depiction of either, in any case.

There was a (failed) attempt to merge both tropes. Somebody copied the image over recently. I'd say pull.

Some combination of these panels from Red Robin 12 might fit for Unfamiliar Ceiling as it demonstrates the first person pov common to the trope. The current image relies on the caption to get the idea across anyway.

I think the second one works better for...either? Steph and Damian's dialogue in the first one doesn't really add anything.
What exactly is the difference in the two tropes anyway?

As they currently stand the differences are minute but it seems Unfamiliar Ceiling leans more towards waking up in a benevolent environment after being patched up from injuries and with an emphasis on starting out in a first person point of view and Waking Up Elsewhere leans more towards waking up after being kidnapped or waking up alone somewhere unexpected. The differences are not really reflected in the examples or descriptions and there is a lot of overlap which is why there was talk of merging the two.
I was worried it wouldn't be immediately obvious that Tim was just waking up from the second image alone, but I agree about Stephanie and Damian's conversation in the first not adding anything.

Ok, but 4.2 for which trope? I'm pretty sure both of them need their images replaced in addition to a general overhaul/clean-up.
Also the reason I put in 4.1 is since it shows Tim waking up from his perspective which seems to be key in some interpretations of Unfamiliar Ceiling.
There's also this example (second panel) as a possible for Waking Up Elsewhere (the example does mention Unfamiliar Ceiling by name but does not actually appear to fit there at all being neither from the character's perspective with a blurry fade in nor taking place after a character received medical attention.)

- 4.1 doesn't show "unfamiliar". But it's a step in the right direction (character's POV)
- 4.2 shows Waking Up Elsewhere well and that's what I voted for
Clock is set.
Crowner's hooked, snooze is set.
Going ahead and bumping this since I won't be around much tomorrow; two in the green.
Way past time to call this one. The pic's pulled from Unfamilar Ceiling, 4.2's swapped in on Waking Up Elsewhere, and both pages are tagged. Caption for Waking Up Elsewhere?
Old pic:
No caption. It is what it is.
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyWay past time to close this one.
Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
Not only does Waking Up Elsewhere share an image with Unfamiliar Ceiling, but it even shares the caption; "Hmmm, this isn't the ceiling I carefully memorized."

I like to believe the brighter side of things. :) (and that's a Temple of the Monkey God on the Glacier mission in BMC)
