The trend got noticed with GOTG because it had the reputation for being the superhero movie that broke the mold and didn't something different from the usual superhero movie. I think there was definitely an uptake in the trend after the success of GOTG but it's sort of funny that using popular music was now seen as breaking away from the pack when it used to be common until the mid 2000's. Hell Daredevil having an Evanescence soundtrack is one of its most mocked aspects.
Not Evanescence, nu metal in general. Nu metal was already a genre with a lot of backlash when Daredevil was first released and nowadays it's just a remnant of that weird time in the 2000's when we let Limp Bizkit achieve popularity.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Except in this case, Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling" and Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" have a vastly different sound and feel to them.
But then again, maybe I've got this wrong. After all, there's a green guy in Got G, a green guy in Ragnarok, there's a woman of color playing an alien in both, and heck, both main characters are played by a guy named Chris!
Yeah this movie is basically a copy+paste of Guardians, and it shows in the trailer.
Let's put it like this: Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede feels campy and over the top, perfectly befitting a movie with a talking raccoon with a gun and a giant tree man. Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin feels ass kicking and fist pounding, perfectly befitting a movie with Norse gods and epic fighting.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?So the comparison is that the songs fit the trailer?
Isn't that exactly what trailer music is supposed to do?
Its why Hot Fuzz didn't feature a Sade track.
It fits the trailer but I still don't see how it's somehow comparable to friggin' Guardians of the Galaxy outside of maybe the logo looking kind of similar. That's the point, they just chose music to fit the scene, not because "Hey, GOTG did it, let's do it too!".
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? They may not be the same genre of music, but the moment I heard that upbeat tempo and emphasis on treble vocals I cottoned onto Guardians' influence in inspiring trailers to break musical type.
The reason people are comparing it to Guardians isn't because they believe the songs are identical, but because the things that they do share between them musically are things that are only recently being emphasized in action movie trailers - at least with such a noticeable frequency.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Whot? They put a song about norse mythology on a comic book movie loosely based on the most famous part of norse mythology. It's a totally logical choice.
It's really a combination of everything. The thing is that GOTG used the music in an atypical way, putting "Hooked on a Feeling" next to aliens and general sci-fi setting. Thor is a mixture of sci-fi and fantasy, which means they share a number of things in common just on that end. The choice of music, the imagery, the brightly colored title and the overall humor leads to a very similar tone.
The Justice League trailer also used some rock music, but among many things had much different imagery, tone and came across more like a music video with most of the trailer edited to the beat of "Come Together."
Not seeing it. Though it may just be because I was "eh" on the Justice League trailer.
while the latter of inmigrant songs fit, is the whole "rock song of 70 use in sci fi fantasy" thing what make it look like Go TG, the whole tone of the trailer look more like a buddy movie of thor and hulk than..well, ragnarok, the fact the use the grandmaster(is that is name?) who look like the colector pretty much seal the deal.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"He looks like the Collector because they're brothers.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? No, I'm saying no one is claiming Justice League is ripping off GOTG simply because of the music in the trailer. There is just something about the Thor trailer that is reminding people of GOTG.
Sure, but it dosent stop the comparation with Got G since is another weird looking men in a used future setting, the comparison was bound to happen

"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Star Wars ripped off GOTG.
I know. I'm saying I don't find anything about to be much more distinctive or unique if that's the argument we're going to use.
Jeez, guys. License music in trailers bothers people but Thor narrating in it doesn't?
The fuck. lol
At least it didn't use "wub wub" or "BRAAAM"

I am pretty sure that the part with Thor hanging over the pit is pretty much where the movie starts, followed by a quick summary what he was up to since leaving earth.
First I heard about Ragnarok other than "Hulk is in it" was in the previews today when I went to see Got G 2. Hela's instantly recognizable due to her Nice Hat / Cool Helmet. Like father, like daughter.

Someone needs to find a convincing Aku impersonator and have them record a custom script for that video. If they did it would be perfect.
Honestly, I'm just looking forward to the gladiator scene. Can you imagine what Loki's sales pitch would be like for that seemingly one-sided match?
"Come one, come all! Watch Pretty Boy get hammered into our coliseum's newest crater by the one, the only SPARTAN HULK!!!! Buy your tickets now while he's still pissed at Thor and not me!"
"HAMMER-MAN STRONGER THAN HULK? HULK SMASH HAMMER-MAN INTO VIP SEATS!!!"

"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome Rob
There's also a difference between movie trailers using pop songs in general and movie trailers starting to use the same kind of sound from pop songs because that's the current trend.
