Something about British Lady and Andre from Blackish being detained and him eating from this plate of doughnuts or some shit and...something? I don't remember.

It's a set-up to a joke, actually. Immediately earlier the agents put up a plate of donuts for them (for non-specified reasons) and leave. This character eats the entire plate of donuts at a lightning speed and explains to his Australian friend that cops put up donuts in the table to test if you're guilty, reasoning that if you don't eat them it means you're guilty, so he ate it all to prove his (and hers) innocence. She is baffled by this but rolls with it.

Very next scene when the interrogators walk in, the very moment they go through the door before they even ask any questions, he loses his shit and says she's guilty of everything trying to cover his own ass, to the bewilderment of his Australian friend.

So in essence: He was pulling this entire concept out of his own posterior to try to act tough but he is just a chickenshit and breaks under the slightest pressure.

It's a nonsensical joke bit, but it makes some sense in context.

Nice video. Finally made me figure out just what it was about Bay's editing style I hated.

That gets into the subtleties of satire quite well.

Something I'm surprised she didn't touch on is the whole "comedy is tragedy plus time" thing.

When The Producers was released in 1967, the Holocaust had only ended 22 years ago; most of the audience would have been old enough to have heard about the Holocaust as it was happening. Whereas now, the Holocaust is over 70 years in the past; the vast majority of people alive today only know about it from history class, and history is full of large atrocities that people don't get emotionally distraught over (hence why Brooks was willing to make a giant goof out of the Inquistion in a way he wasn't with concentration camps).

We're not quite there yet, since there are still people alive who remember the Holocaust (and even after they've passed away, there will still be people who knew people who remembered the Holocaust), but it's only natural that, over time, Hitler becomes just another historical figure, whose use in comedy is no more controversial than using, say, Napoleon or Ghengis Khan.

I have to admit that Producers is the only Mel Brooks movie I've watched that I've found very funny. I thought it was a absolutely histerical when I saw it, but when I then looked up Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles, the jokes just fell flat for me. I don't really know why I like Producers so much more than the other ones.

Maybe it has to do with the kind of reality they have. The Producers is set in something resembling the real world, even if many of the characters and incidents are very heightened. Something like Blazing Saddles, though, might as well be a Looney Tunes cartoon, with stuff like a medieval hangman randomly presiding over an Old West hanging, or an army of charging bad guys being stopped by a toll booth they could have easily ridden around, or everyone breaking through the fourth wall and into a different movie set in the climax. It's much more of an anything-goes style of comedy.

[up][up][up]Kinda, I will said dracula a is a good example of that time, the chararter is clearly based on vlad tepes a guy who was really bloodthirsty and kinda of a madman but is so set apart that the chararter have become detach to him, meaning he can be good, bad or whatever, one can think in the future chararter based on hitler would be seen like dracula instead of Darkseid.

Also im in the comment section and it occur to me that part of why south park works is not just the target of punching out or whatever, is also the BOLDNESS of the idea, when south park make a joke they usually really, really,REALLY go over the top to the point the offensive nature because an absurdity in itself, for me that is the point of crossing the line twices(one cornerstone of edgy humor) while many edgylord try to make the offensive part the punchline...which it doesn't work at all.

Time does soften things most often (look at all the jokes about the Titanic), but I'm curious about cases where the cushion of distance is missed. I recall the 2013 Oscars, hosted by Seth Macfarlane, and a joke he made that was meet with loud winces was when he snarked "the actor who most got into Abraham Lincoln's head was John Wilkes Booth". He calmed down the crowd by pointing out it'd been a century and a half and he had jokes about Napoleon too, but I wonder what it was that made the cushion of time not emerge so instead all the audience heard was a joke about a guy being murdered.

The thing about the "tragedy + time" argument with Mel Brooks is due to how close Brooks was to the source material. The video did an excellent job of deconstructing of how weak that argument is when people try make fun of something they really have no personal stock in.

[up][up]in th case we have to remember is now just the guy as is memories but the effect it have on people, unless you are a confederate apologist, lincoln was by far one of the best president who united the nation, abolish slavery and die cowardly, on the other hand Hitler efect still resonate in europe and the world: how US shape himself as protector of evil, neo nazis and white supremacy bearing is name and so own make stuff difficult to kill

I do hope the alien nerds studying humanity go for a broad range. Does that qualify as spoilers? Also I did get other non-side-tracked things from the video.
