I know, but that "justification" did more to break my suspension of disbelief in Zootopia than basically anything else that was in the movie.
Not even close.

The message in Zootopia is more complex than most people give it credit for, and that the predators are the ones who have to deal with the most prejudices is one of the most clever aspects of it. Initially you would think that they are on the top of the food chain, because we see that Judy has to deal with a lot of prejudices for being a rabbit who wants to work a job which is not considered suitable for her. But it soon turns out that this is more a "small animals can't do this job" thing, and it is actually the predators who have to deal with mistrust the most, and that the early negative experiences she had with a predator was said predator lashing out against a society which isn't particularly welcoming towards him. Judy has understandable prejudices towards predators, especially Foxes, born out of her experiences, but it is important that she overcomes them.
Or, to put it differently: You could also argue that people are right to be afraid of Moslems because Isis is an Islamic organisation which has killed countless people already. But it isn't that easy, not in Zootopia, and not in our world.
As I've said earlier on this thread, I don't really care which Disney movie wins, since I loved both Zootopia and Moana. In my opinion though, though I personally preferred Moana, Zootopia winning makes more sense (regardless of any political statements) unless the Academy decides to throw Laika a (well-deserved) bone.
"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story..."It is possible the Zootopia and Moana will split the vote....
To be honest, I enjoyed all three, so I'm not too bothered by which film wins. It will more than likely be one of the Disney films, it's likely that a lot of Academy voters never bother watching any of the films, and usually just vote for Disney or Pixar. I feel a bit bad for the teams behind The Red Turtle and My Life as a Zucchini, tbh; although I haven't gotten to those films yet, they sound interesting, but will never get much in the way of recognition.

For films like this the nomination is the recognition. It generates some interest.
Well, fuck me, I guessed it right, Suicide Squad won Makeup and Styling.
1 2 We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. -KVThis year, Suicide Squad won an Oscar. For putting "Damaged" on the Joker's head. It now has more Oscars than Carol.
Fantastic Beasts got the Costume design Oscar.
"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story...""Oscar winner Suicide Squad." Dear lord.
AND BEST SUPPORTING WIN FOR MAHERSHALA ALI. Nice! Also, apparently he just had his first child a few days ago. Must be having a good week.

"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story..."Suicide Squad: An Oscar Wining Film. I laugh just thinking about it.
Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company. What the hell kinda Walmart commercial was that?
"Wal Mart; We Killed The World."
Zootopia runs into a problem most allegories face, being that if you stretch the analogy too far it starts falling apart. For starters, the sheer size and strength difference between animals is not something you can really compare to human races. The "racism" Judy faces as a bunny cop is really more of a body image deal, like saying short people can't play football or basketball. It's obviously not illegal for a bunny to be a cop, and her hiring in and of itself doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. Although it would be its own interesting story in having her be a part of an affirmative action publicity stunt.
Suicide Squad, Oscar Winner and Razzie Nominee. It doesn't happen that often.
It IS part of an affirmative action allegory, called in the film "the mammal inclusion initiative".
Did anyone here like Manchester? Can u explain to me why? I thought it was dull as tar.

"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story..."Apparently someone called Suicide Squad their favorite film during a "best movies" segment. And with Viola Davis having worked on it and winning best supproting actress, this seems to have been a great night for DC.
Oh, and Jungle book won visual effects.

Even if Zootopia didn't win, Kubo was way better than Moana. Like, infinitely so.
Everyone is resigned to La La Land running the table.
