I actually kind of agreed with the villagers in regards to the backstory. They just went through a plague that killed people on the spot judging from that image with people just slumped over everything, and at the same time, a witch was casting a spell. Now while that isn't definite proof of guilt, their minds aren't exactly stable considering the trauma they went through, so I can see how they got to that conclusion. Plus, there isn't anything to prove her innocent either.

Not to mention, the witches went overboard with just killing anything, and a witch had to be responsible. Who else could summon a swarm of rats? Thus, I kind of sided with the villagers. And humans in general. Considering Zero said witches act in their best interests, I'm betting who was ever behind the plague wanted that outcome to start a war with the intent of witches emerging supreme.

Though I will agree they went overboard with Albus. But I will say that arguing returning to a crime scene is a stupid thing for a thief to do, is a crappy defense. Some people are just arrogant or plain stupid, the latter which actually fits Albus. Heck, I remember reading National Geographic for Kids magazines when younger, and those had articles about cases of really stupid criminals who got caught because of said stupidity.

Man, he was about to return the ring before they all jumped to the conclusion that he'd stolen it. There would've been no conflict whatsoever if they'd be willing to listen for even five seconds.

It's also worth actually thinking about whether or not the witch that's been helping you for decades suddenly deciding to summon a plague kill you all is a thing that makes sense. If she says the spell she was to get rid of it, well, maybe she's earned a little bit of the benefit of the doubt for all the times she's saved your lives. Particularly if you found her casting a spell after the onset of the plague, and nobody else was infected afterwards. At least enough to hold off on burning her until we know for sure what's going on, I think.

Attacking people who help them based on knee jerk reaction and nothing else is just pure 100% peasant logic. (TM)

Of course, as bad as the peasants are, the true evil behind them is probably the Church. This is a story about which hunts after all.

Thankfully as the Mercenary said, with the development of Magic the balance of power is shifting and Witches will soon win the war, putting an end to all this bullshit.

So I was on my regular anime streaming site, when I saw this https://myanimelist.net/anime/35448/Yo_Daitouryou_Trap-kun

What the flying fuck Japan? This is... is something I'm probably going to watch just to see how deep stupidity can go. Dear god, I hope this doesn't result in massive loss of brain cells.

EDIT: Okay, so it was only a minute long, but still painful to watch. Only good joke was his hair being a bento.

[up][up]Holy cow yessss.

I think Sakura Quest is the winner this season...discounting continuing series.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

Hello guys, I'm here to pimp some shows that I think deserve some of your attention:

  • Don't let the full CG animation discourage you from watching ID-0 and Sekaisuru Kado. The former is a strange combination of sentai and space mining sci fi show that somehow works, while the latter is a solid first-contact story that focuses more on understanding and negotiating with the alien and his proposition of infinite energy as opposed to finding the most explosive way to kill it.
  • Armed Girls Machiavellianism has a silly plot even if you judge it by usual high-school action harem LN standards, but the martial arts focus and solid combat sequences more than make up for it. It helps that the MC is an outright punk and not your average milquetoast gift to women.
  • Uchouten Kazoku is your ticket to a slightly supernatural Kyoto with a strong Ghibli charm to it. Plus there's a first season for you to enjoy.
  • If you can at least tolerate harems, check out Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata. The show actually goes to lengths to examine what makes the stereotypical cool big sis and tsundere childhood friend tick, and the main heroine is explicitly and decidedly un-anime. It's also on track on criticizing the MC's indecisiveness, the plague of many a harem lead, and picking apart how his being weak-willed will get him nowhere.
  • Liked Shirobako? Then you might like Sakura Quest. Same staff, I think, with a similar brand of workplace comedy starring people being people.
  • Tsugumomo is worth a shot if you want a nostalgia trip back to the 90s.
  • One show that we're definitely not talking about enough is Tsuki ga Kirei, the show I consider to be the best of the season, and in many ways equivalent to Rakugo of the previous cour. At its heart it's a simple middle school love story, but what elevates it is its conveyance of emotion through nuance. The characters never divulge their feelings via explicit monologue and exposition. You'll just have parts where the girl is overly amused by the guy's bedhead, or how the guy jumps to his desk the instant his phone rings, and several stolen glances, complete with some nervous fidgeting. It's the most organic and natural romantic development I've seen in recent memory. Teenage puppy love at its finest.

@tsuki ga kiriei: That sounds incredible and just what I wanted. It's probably on the subs + cultural differences, but show don't tell is something the anime I check out don't particularly excel at.

[up] "Show, don't tell" is right. For perspective, tsuki ga kirei or "the moon is beautiful" is regarded as an indirect way of saying "I love you", and this indirectness permeates the entire show. Easily one of the most natural love stories I've ever encountered, and I'm not just talking about anime.

Seriously, give it a try. The elegance of the storytelling is enough to make me weep.

Seconded. This is arguably the best series so far this season. I love the slow build up of attraction and romance between the two leads.

Monster Strike 2nd Season is getting better. The story goes deeper and the mundane parts of story become more amusing. I still wish Lyra comes back and become a couple with Ren, but I'm fine with him ended up with Mana or Aoi.

Tsuki ga Kirei was something I put on my crunchyroll qeue without knowing anything about it because I was intrigued by the blurb, so I'm actually really excited by the prospect of a high-quality romance.

I sort of want a version of Fukumenkei Noise where they omit all the internal monologue of the characters. Everyone would come off even more nuts that way.

I've caught up with ID-0 and Armed Girls Machiavellianism. Sekaisuru Kado has a dub now, so I can watch that instead of catching up to the sub. The only other shows I've caught up with this season are Attack on Titan 2, My Hero Academia 2, and Seven Mortal Sins.

Anyone else find Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine pretty nice? I saw the dub and got hooked by the characters.

Impressions for the Threadless Shows:

  • Atom - The Beginning: Its major flaw would be unnecessary exposition. The kind where they state things that are easily inferred, and the kind where they dump too much info in one go. Apart from that, though, it's decent. Just enough sci fi dressing to make it more palatable, and the characters have a retro sort of appeal to them right down to the designs.
  • Fukumenkei Noise: Refreshingly bonkers. Haven't watched anything this, well, shoujo in a while. All the cringey, unintentionally hilarious telenovella tripe is here. Whew. Also for a music-oriented show none of the tracks so far really pop. The VA of the main heroine can't pull off the punk rock tunes. The art style still bothers me too.
  • Hinako Note: Typical 5-girl ensemble 4-koma. The only one of its kind for this cour which is why I've been able to keep up with it.
  • Quan Zhi Gao Shi: So I went and picked up on this Chinese cartoon, and it's not bad. It's a world where pro gaming is Serious Business, and well I'm not sure how the MMO in question actually works, but the action sequences are very nice and fluid. In fact the entire show is a visual delight. Plot is, well, again, pro gaming is Serious Business. How much gravitas that holds will be up to you.
  • ID-0: Like Bubuki Buranki before it, it's a mishmash of ideas that altogether create something fresh and charming, even if it's somewhat messy. There's also enough soft sci fi stuff to keep me interested.
  • Sagrada Reset: If you like relatable, fleshed out people and not pseudophilosophical automatons, steer clear. Seriously, everyone has like one or two facial expressions, most being Poker Face and Poker Face with Slight Upward Turning of Lips. And they talk like they're holding interviews instead of casual conversation. Randomly asking about Mac Guffins and stuff, even. All in all, terrible. But there's enough of the interesting ideas that I'll continue with it. Don't try this at home, unless you're really bored.
  • Tiger Mask: Tiger Mask has no allies now, and he'll have to crawl his way to his match with his sworn enemy. And by crawl I mean have cool fights with heels who make up for their shallowness with various gimmicks. The acrobatic face-off in the episode 30 was great; the animators did a real good job drawing all the jumps and twists and turns.
  • Warau Salesman NEW: I take it back, the only aesop here is that if you're unlucky enough, the Devil will toy with you. There are a couple of skits where the victims succumbed due to their own failings, and those were the best ones. For the rest, it's just the salesman pointing his magic finger at things and destroying lives for the lulz. It's sort of like the Boring Invincible Hero applied to the villain— it really would have been more engaging if psychological games were in play. Dropped.
  • Yowamushi Pedal: Keeps on pedaling. Excited for the conclusion of the sprinter showdown.

EDIT: Oops, I knew I forgot one.

  • Rokudenatsu Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records: Actually pretty fun as far as far as light novel high school harem action fantasies go. Glenn is one of the better MCs of this kind of show, because he has an honest-to-goodness personality aside from generic do-gooder. The same can be said for the three main girls, though to a lesser extent. Though I find, say, Sistine's stock tsundere trait a lot more adorable because of several animation flourishes, like her bouncing up and down while yelling "BAKA!" and how her cat ears ribbons flop when she's flustered. To say nothing of the delicious assortment of facial expressions! Plotwise, nothing special, but I feel that the general goofiness of character interactions more than make up for it. My two major criticisms: the show is generally at its worst when trying for drama of any sort, becoming a lot more trite and cheesy, and the female uniforms are tacky as heck.
