3's a good quality upgrade but it's still only getting half the trope across - the description specifically mentions the contrast between the male and female characters, which is why I was suggesting the Usagi Yojimbo pics.

Of those, I prefer the third. It is simpler, and they are dressed distinctly.
Gadget (the mouse) is good too though.
