Yeah, there's no evident sword and it looks more like stabbing. +1 to swap back to the old pic.
Swap Back, I got no clue what the current even is.
Swap back.
''“You want a planet? I’ll give you a planet! Heck, I’ll give you your own solar system! No, I’ll give you a house... in Boca Raton!I guess most of these work for the trope as written but none of them are actually a sword beam like Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Nanoha and The Binding Of Isaac Antibirth. They are more like Sword Energy Shockwave.
How about an actual Sword Beam? [1]◊ [2]◊

Unless there is a separate trope for Sword Energy Shockwaves, examples would probably fall under this trope. We could illustrate both versions.

Swap back.
6.2 would work, or at least be an example of what we're looking for.
Code Lyoko may offer some suggestions: [1]◊ [2]◊

That looks more like a gun. Or a lightsaber.
That looks sort of like the game is telling the character to throw his/her sword. And/or at what angle to throw it.
6.2 seems the best so far.

6.2
''“You want a planet? I’ll give you a planet! Heck, I’ll give you your own solar system! No, I’ll give you a house... in Boca Raton!6.2 could do.
(Annoyed grunt)6.2 looks more clearly like the trope than those alternatives do.
Anyone here familiar enough with the Zelda cartoon to know how to find a wider shot of said sword beam?
Barring a better suggestion from the Zelda cartoon, I prefer the original Kirby image or 5.1/14.3.
Check out my fanfiction! What was wrong with the Kirby image? I feel like a lot of the objections being raised in this thread are issues with the shape of the projectile, which, like, what? What does that matter?
Not according to the description. In fact the description emphasizes Crescent shapes as the most common version. So people are objecting that the picture is showing what the trope is about?
I am 100% fine with Kirby.

I think it started with Memers pointing out that it looked more like a sword energy shockwave.
I like eroock's "illustrate both versions" idea, though.
You mean the image in OP? It doesn't look like the crescent shape was created by the sword. Another earlier frame would be okay I guess.
Its more colorful Razor Wind than an actual sword beam. even the anime its colorful razor wind

It has sparkles trailing from it. It's clearly not a razor wind.
literally from the description.
That looks like Throwing Your Sword Always Works. (And before you say the sword's bright orange, I'll reply it can be a magic sword)

Alternative shot of Link
The Zelda cartoon is highly unusual in that Link doesn't throw his attacks at enemies with a physical motion like in the games, they just come out on their own. That is, it's a weak example of a Sword Beam since the "sword" part is completely irrelevant to how the beam works - you could replace the sword with anything else and it wouldn't do much to change how it comes across (and Link even does that within the series, by shooting the same beams from his other weapons). Also, while the Zelda games are the Trope Namer for Sword Beam, the attacks in the cartoon are referred to as "zaps".
Another interesting case: Ichigo can use Getsuga Tenshou without swinging his sword, but the result is just his sword bleeding out an amorphous blob of energy that explodes in his face. He needs the swinging motion not just to direct the energy at a target, but to concentrate it into a defined shape.
My vote is for either switching back to the original pic or using 5.1, both of which clearly show that the beam is being produced by a slashing motion (so does 5.2, but it has a lot of clutter).

Image changed without a discussion with explanation "The last picture was really small". Culprit messaged. Previous picture on the left.
I was going to report the new picture anyway under "Does not illustrate" before realizing the extent of the issue. Honestly, my eyesight isn't what it used to be, but in the current I can't see a sword, and it looks more like a stabbing than a beam anyway.
We can look for a change of the old one, but the current has to go.
