I wonder if god just singled this random unremarkable person to torment out of lols, or if he does this to all atheists.

The fact god is talking through a Nutcracker and this series is by Studio NUT makes me lol.

Never thought being hugged by a little girl could be so utterly terrifying. Also, when she started cranking up the big finisher in Ep 1, for some reason my brain substituted the Starlight Breaker theme from Nanoha, which given the result was pretty funny.

I do think the story has potential, with several promising themes already present and waiting to be developed, but it's a bit early to tell - so far so good though.

And finally, I do think the animators are taking a page from Higurashi when it comes to facial expressions, nail-biting creepy some of them (and given the main char already coming off in a creepy-cute kind of way...)

[up] I was actually thinking of a different, highly destructive spell. Tanya's no Takamachi Nanoha but in terms of destruction she seems to prefer the Lina Inverse school of firepower.

You know, I never noticed the discrepancy with Tanya's atheism and her prayer in Episode 1. Still, good on the show for answering that unasked question.

Did not expect hear about Italian Red Devils in this show. Hahaha.

I like God in his, as Gilphon said, Old Testament mode. Interesting to note that apparently, God didn't make the Type-95 jewel function to force Tanya to pray to Him; in the source material, Being X actually just turned the jewel into a holy relic as a way of inspiring more faith, and it ends up with Tanya by coincidence.

Oh, an elite unit. That's probably irrelevant.

Hope they continue making those post-credits scenes. I also realized that Salaryman will eventually have to suffer the pain of menstruation. Erk.

[up] I didn't notice it either, till someone complained about it on MAL. I'd actually dismissed it as propaganda or something, with Tanya invoking the name of god to boost morale or whatever, so I didn't realise that she had no real reason to do so after watching episode 2.

Yea, it's amazing how the second and third episodes frame everything from the first in an entirely different light.

ED translation:

Fire! Take aim! Fire! Go!
Attention! Take cover! Advance! Stop!

To the battlefield! The front lines! Then the edge of death!
Show this commitment born from casting your life away!

Fire! Take aim! Fire! Go!
Attention! Take cover! Advance! Stop!

I'm sure you can hear their sermons—
The voices of maggots trying to resist.
Stomp them out! Stomp them out!

Men, what is our mission?
Extermination! Not a single creature spared!
There's only one thing to do:
Create Hell!

Why do we...
...advance deeper into the flames?
...charge head on into a rain of bullets?
What a ridiculous question! It's for the sake of our country!

To the battlefield! The front lines! Then the edge of death!
Show this commitment born from casting your life away!
Offer your loyalty! Your obedience! Then your very soul!
Submit every fiber of your being, raising a triumphant shout!

Go forth! Prove that we can build
A pile of bodies that can reach the heavens!

Fire! Take aim! Fire! Go!
Attention! Take cover! Advance! Stop!

Episode 3: Mostly setup for Tanya heading out into the field again. Read: how trying to weasel out of the frontlines backfires on her.

Tanya Degurechaff just wants to live a quiet life. But she underestimates her own brilliance. And the fact that her superior officers look at brilliance at another angle. Darn that Being X!tongue

Try as hard as you might Tanya, Viktoriya's stuck to you like glue.tongue

Episode 5: Training from Hell actually meant to drive away the trainees. Too bad for Tanya that her plans backfire again; her merciless training actually builds up team spirit and turns them into proper fighting men. Viktoriya is also getting good at reading her little demonic captain.

As is typical of war-themed manga/anime the first opponents are outdated amateurs and basically exist as target practice.

It was a good episode, but what bugged me was the whole thing about "taking the opportunity to learn Dakian". I get that it was a throw away line to hint at the future development of the war, but five minutes later they have their Dakian characters speaking the same language as the MC and MC broadcasting to Dakians and in what ever she speaks.

I get it's a minor thing, it just shows how little they thought about stuff like this. It's not worth it having the world building crumble just to have a your dialogue be a bit more vague.

[up][up] Very much so; as Tanya mentions, the importance of air superiority in warfare was a novel idea back during WWI.

[up] Just to let them save some face for that niggle, Dakia was the old name of what is now known as Romania. So there's some research done there.

Tanya Degurechaff just wants to live a quiet life. But as it turns out, invoking a brutal training regimen on the dudes who passed her initial screening just bolstered their iron will. Thus, there is Tanya and her crew, giving a neighbouring country a taste of what's hip and trendy in today's wartime climate.tongue

Episode 6: Pixies blow up things with high-caliber fairy dust. cool

I think Being X could stand to show up less often from now on. Maintain a bit of mystique, know what I'm saying?

Tanya has a future as highly mobile flight-capable one woman artillery cannon sniper. Woe be upon her enemies.

Tanya Degurechaff just wants to live a quiet life. But it looks like Being X has decided that playtime is overnote . Welp, time for Tanya to clean house!

That Entente guy looks like he could give her some trouble, though.

[up][up]

Could be Being X might be showing up sporadically and make Tanya question reality.

Honestly though, Being X shot itself in the foot. By proving its existence to Tanya, there is no need for faith and is merely representing itself as an entity of considerable power to an atheist. It literally does not comprehend how Tanya's mind works.

[up] No. The only thing that's new is a few extra lines of narration from Tanya, which don't offer any new information. It's basically her going "this happened" "that happened" "f*ck Being X".

Tanya Degurechaff just wants to live a quiet life. That's why this surprise attack on the Orse Fjord had to succeed.

And CRAP, I totally forgot about that Entente dude. He was from Tanya's first sortie. Due to this, I forgot how much of a small-fry he actually was.

Just...his defeat stings a little more this time around since he had a family.
