As stated in ATT, this trope is a total mess, with Natter and ZCE's still coming out the metaphorical ass even after being made NRLEP. Looks like a good candidate for IUEO (if not an Example Sectionectomy, and certainly a lock in either case.) Thoughts?.

Opened.

If there are enough in-universe examples, then IUEO sounds like a good idea. If not, outright axing the list will do.

Seconding a page lock.

Checking through the examples on the subpages, I found one (count it, one) in-universe example (from Sherlock).

I'm not going to go through all 700+ wicks right now, but spot-checking a few from actual work pages (as opposed to YMMV pages or other tropes), I found no in-universe examples. And at least one instance of it being used as a regular ol' trope, even though it wasn't referring to anything in-universe.

Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.

"flame war in universe", "flame war invoked", "flame war lampshaded" and "flame war discussed" may be good search terms.

[up]x2: Well there's the Sherlock example, the EVE entry in the video game subpage, and an throway joke about an nerd complaining about stuff he hasn't watched yet in Super Paper Mario. So that's three. Three IE examples (or meta-jokes) of an trope about forum arguments.

On one hand, it's an somewhat entertaining documentary. And on the other, we'll get an dead page that's stating one of the more prevalent forms of online discussions.

How exactly is it different from Internet Backdraft, by the way?

That one's about an angry reaction of netizens. This one's about angry arguments.

Would an character qualify as IUEO if they indirectly mentioned the hate that their show gets?

I don't know why this isn't in Flame Bait index.

[up]x2: Using an relatively minor, yet recurring character to show the main ones how bad "Teen Titans Go!" is. And his episodes are usually "This is why you are shit!" lessons by mentioning the topics of the flame wars.

[up]: Considering how easy it is to start an argument, that'll probably turn it into an "Don't explain the joke" trope.

Cut the page? Since most of the entries are stating on what goes on the fan forums, instead of the media. Besides, what's the point in having an trope page if it can't have any examples? Well, there's just the definition at this point; but there are other websites for that.

[up]There are dozens of pages with no examples. They're listed at Example Sectionectomy.

I feel that this page ain't worth saving, since most of the examples are about fandom shipping, everything but X is shit, Y is shit, this forum is trash, or political stuff on actual forums.

I say cut the page since the trope is rarely used in media and someone else believes that it's one of the wiki's tumors. But what good is just 3 votes and an guy narrarating the obvious?

...Or we could just ignore it for an while until someone more important than I finds it and deletes it.

Yeah, I doubt this is even a trope (as in, a work uses this) in the first place.

"Standard"? Ugh; we still haven't really resolved that debate from last time.

Do we keep examples from other pages or eliminate them as well?

For one, while this isn't a trope, this is a thing in fandoms, and we do make pages for them, so we can keep it for the definition.

For another, not sure what we'd do on other pages. Linking it as part of descriptions doesn't hurt, but as examples? Don't think so. I can't even call it "audience reaction" because it happens purely within the audience, even if it starts from reaction of the audience towards things.

Since multiple proposals have been made on what to do with this trope (such as either performing an Example Sectionectomy, or making it In-Universe Examples Only), I'm thinking a crowner should be made to decide on that.
