For simplicity sake, I feel like playing a straight-up bad guy this time around.

  • Identity: Freezerburn (AKA Walter Jones, but doesn't let many people call him that.); "Professional Supervillain"
  • Powers & Abilities:
    • Pyromancy: Freezerburn can create and control fire and heat.
    • Cryomancy: He can also shoot ice and freeze things.
      • Extreme Conditions Survival: As consequence of his powers, he's also immune to the effects of extreme temperatures and, to a lesser extent, isn't bothered by extreme sources of light.
      • Minor Water Powers: Has minor water-related capabilities, mostly that of creating water by combining his freezing and heating powers.
    • Near-Peak Physical Condition: Spends a lot of his down time training his body, leaving him in excellent physical condition.
    • Structural Engineering and Explosives Expert: As result of his one-time civilian career, Freezerburn knows a great deal about structural engineering and making stuff blow up the good old fashion way.
  • Description: A 6'4" military type, complete with a black buzz cut, permastubble, and muscles that mean business. His typical outfit consists of simple well-fitting cargo pants, boot, and a tank-top, covered by an assortment of tactical gear, though his arms he leaves uncovered save for open-fingered gauntlets. Wears a mask that has a simple skull-like imagery.
  • Personality:
    • He knows he's a supervillain and loves it; his main aspirations in life consist of breaking stuff and getting into fights. Most consider him a thug when you get right down to it, and they're not exactly wrong.
    • While he mostly works for himself and most his plans involve destroying stuff, he's not against doing good old fashion mercenary work or working as a hired henchman for other supervillains with loftier goals (he's even been known to do work for Superior Industries, the company that accidentally 'created' him), though he has his limits.
    • In spite of his supervillain activities, he's a surprisingly nice and personable guy otherwise most the time, even towards those he's fighting; assuming you make allowances for someone who's known to be a troll or lay on the smack talk.
    • Early on in his career as a supervillain, it was reasoned that his main motivation for crime was just breaking stuff and the thrill and spectacle that came from it and watching things be destroyed. More recently, though, it's been suggested that his real motivation is that deep down he's a thrill-seeker, and that the crimes he commits are a means of attracting the attention of superheroes so he can fight them, with the collateral damage that results being a nice bonus.
  • Background:
    • Once upon a time, Walter Jones was your average demolitions expert, bringing things down the right and legal way so that new things could be built. But he found himself enjoying destroying stuff too much and watching its destruction that he asked himself why he wasn't just destroying what he wanted to destroy.
    • Naturally, asking and then answering this question got him sent to prison. While in prison, he found himself recruited as an illegal test subject for a unauthorized project by Superior Industries, which was working on deep-space and extra-terrestrial bio-engineering for exploration purposes.
    • An accident resulting from the experiment granted him super powers. He promptly used his newfound powers to escape custody. After discovering what he was capable of, he took on the name of "Freezerburn" and began a life of supervillainy.

I haven't done anything RP related in a long while, so something like this might be a good way to get my feet wet again. Especially with how semi-popular it is, bless this for taking off~

Quick question; do our characters have to be strictly limited to hero/villain/anti-hero alliances? I'm not talking about a Heel–Face Revolving Door, but my character's more-or-less a Nominal Hero to start that would probably flip to being a villain after meeting someone like Mindseye.
Long story short, they have a secret they can't tell and they're only a good guy to try and hide that from everyone.

If you'd rather have a straight-up hero/villain/anti-hero then I can do that instead. I'm flexible~

Oh, your character can change "alignment" if you want, as long as you play it correctly.

Captain Comet: There's a DC hero by that name, but this one is sufficiently different, so accepted.

Freezerburn: accepted.

Main Game thread will be posted in about half an hour.

Here we go! If anything here seems contradictory or out-of-place, go ahead and say so. This is a character I've had in the back of my head for years now, so it's nice to finally flesh out a few of the details present.

P.S. I might've been rather wordy and redundantly repeated statements more than once, so apologies for not cutting the fluff.

  • Identity: Tabitha Cobbler, CEO of the Candy Cobbler Corporation and national celebrity of sorts. No secret identity, and (most of) her powers are publicly known. Her alignment is... a little hard to pin, but she's a Nominal Hero at best.
  • Description: 14 years old. Caucasian, green eyes and naturally blonde hair, though it's dyed to be striped red and white- her trademark bun in particular is evocative of peppermints. She's often found wearing candy-themed dresses, a particular favorite being a peppermint-themed dress with a red and white skirt to go with her hair. She always carries around a small backpack when she's out and about- the main pocket is always left slightly unzipped and filled with reserve sugar.
  • Personality: Tabitha is a bit of an attention seeker, by virtue of her celebrity status. Always eager to save face and say things like "...but it wasn't just me, my team helped too" she's always trying to take front and center while saying such humble statements. When out of the spotlight, though, Tabitha is incredibly bossy to those around her and demands that most people submit to her requests (relying on her mere status to do most of the work- she's more reluctant to use her powers to force her way, but she's willing to attempt it if she has to.) Due to Tabitha's desire to maintain a good public image, she's often paranoid when confronting people in private like that for fear that someone's spying on her or using a hidden camera or the like... but otherwise, please! Keep the cameras rolling, she'll even pose with you if you ask nicely.
  • Powers & Abilities:
    • Glucokinesis: A power that her great grandmother and company founder, uh, Candy Cobbler was also famous for having. Tabitha has complete control over any sugars that she can access via open air, and can restructure them in to a variety of confectionery constructs. A giant gumdrop to bounce around on? A fist made entirely of rock candy? Candy corn claws? The possibilities are endless! It should be noted, though, that her powers are limited to any sugar that she can access via open air, and even then it's mostly limited to anything directly near her or within her line-of-sight. So she can't use her powers on a chocolate bar in its wrapper, cereal in a box, or blood without an open wound.
    • Healing: Given her fine control on sugar, she involuntarily uses her powers on herself without realizing it... usually to eat more candy than should be humanly possible. This also gives her some degree of a Healing Factor- her body will heal minor cuts and wounds rather quickly, provided she's calm as a pond.
    • As a last resort if she needs more sugar, she also carries a knife to draw from her blood stream- though this is only in extreme scenarios. Naturally, using blood sugar will make her light-headed and significantly less alert than normal. It's also worth noting that her sugar constructs are susceptible to exactly what you'd imagine. Use heat and you can melt her chocolate walls, use water to destroy her cotton candy clouds, etc.
  • Background: The Candy Cobbler Corporation (located near Easton) was, as mentioned above, founded by Candy Cobbler. She had a mutation that allowed her to manipulate sugars, which she used to found a candy company devoted to keeping spirits high during the Great Depression by producing candies en masse for an incredibly cheap price. It was a job she enjoyed, always seeking to create new products and making sure everyone's sweet teeth were satisfied. After the economy recovered, the company became one of the biggest in America at the time, and stands tall even to this day!
The Cobblers for two generations never showed signs of the power, but Tabitha did at the age of 5. Headlines were made at this, although Tabitha never really became a target over her powers. (The only thing Candy ever used hers to combat was frowns, after all.) Tabitha would later learn of her ability to control blood during a winter nosebleed, but she never told anyone about that power...
Tragedy would strike the company when Mr. and Mrs. Cobbler, the third generation to run the company, died of unknown causes one night in 2013. Following this shocking news, as was tradition for the family Tabitha was to step up as the new company CEO. Thus a close friend of the family served as Tabitha's financial advisor/tutor and, combined with her celebrity status for "owning" a company at such a young age, the company recovered quickly. Tabitha now successfully manages the business as an American icon of idealism and hope, a constant reminder that even in the face of tragedy any person- no matter the age- can make the best of it and come out on top.
...I thought that seemed a little too perfect, too.
In truth, killing her parents worked out better for Tabitha than she could of ever imagined. She never expected to become a cultural icon because of it, she just wanted money was all. The Cobblers never spoiled her in spite of their wealth, saying her day would come when she better understood the value of money. Though in truth they cared deeply for their daughter and wanted to raise her properly, at such a young age Tabitha only understood them to be selfish bastions that could care less for what she wanted. Thus, after some poorly-conceived contemplation; she drained their blood, replaced it, and clotted the wounds. Keeping her ability to control blood hidden, the death of the Cobblers is a mystery no one but Tabitha knows the truth to.
In the three years that have since passed, she would occasionally regret what she did to hijack the company... but she reassures herself that being rich was more than worth the price of people who would never of given her a penny anyways. Though Tabitha sees herself as in the right for what she did, she knows for fact that if the truth ever spills out that... well, who knows how she'll deal with that. Thus, she constantly tries to maintain the role of an icon everyone looks up to such as to make them never question her place.
Every day, beneath the skin of America's sweetest girl, she's growing more and more wary of people around her- especially as the number of metahumans begins to rise. There's only so much smiling at the cameras will hide... she may soon slip into the deep end of things and become completely unhinged, but for now Tabitha is assuring herself that no one suspects a thing.

No, like, in the fiction of the RP what time is it? I'm writing my first post now and I don't know what time of day it is in the game.

Yeah, was also kinda thinking we need a discussion thread, especially so we can determine what sort of places there are in this city and develop sub-plot ideas. Still sorta working on character thing and probably won't get it done until tomorrow, though I kinda want to see how things go before settling in. I'm a bit concerned that the opening post just sorta jumps into the action without giving us a good idea of what these places are and stuff.

Edit: Also, seconding the lack of a clear time. [up]

Edit 2: Also just saw discussion thread thing.

The Discussion thread has been posted.

For now let's assume the game moves in real time; so now its Thursday July 14, 2016. We can change that if desired.

Only one plot has "jumped into action" (the one at the museum) the other one is more of a setup. I'm preparing more plots for the other characters. The city I definitely want to be designed with player imput; again, use the Discussion thread.

Oh and Tabitha has been approved.

Ayyy, nice ninja edit there. You still didn't answer our question though. What time is it in the RP? Does that mean it's about a quarter to 11 since it's on the east coast? Does passage through real time also mean a punch could take hours or days depending on a player's schedule?

Come on, you know what I mean!

Ok, how about this: we use real-world dates but the actual time fight scenes etc. take, will depend on player responses. Clear enough?

If you want an hour for the scene at the museum, let's say it was at 4 PM.

And please, let's talk about this In the Discussion Thread!

Yeah, having a game like this move in real time is never really that viable an idea if you take much time to think about it at all.

Another NPC. This one is definitely an NPC.

Emerald

  • Asah, formerly known as the The Emerald Comet, veteran super heroine
  • Another crystal-bearer, she holds the green crystal in her body. Far older than the rest, she has grown into her power.
    • She's a Lightning Bruiser. Truly, she is, displaying the upper echelons of speed, strength and durability. No flight, no lasers, nor anything like that. She is, quite simply, a goddamn bullet train.
    • Her mental defenses are described like a neutron star, incredibly dense and burning.
    • All the crystal-bearers have some kind of super form (Amethyst, for example, hasn't figured his out). Emerald has communed with her crystal and knows that hers will kill her the first, and only, time she uses it, disintegrating her flesh as it's transformed into living energy. So, no, she's never used it.
  • A vvvvery short Indian woman, not topping above five feet, more like in her mid fours. She in her early thirties, with hair down to her knees. She wears an white body-suit with green belt, boots and gloves and a long green cape that trails on the ground behind her, unless she has wrapped around her like a dress. A piece of the green crystal lies exposed on her throat and the bridge of her nose.
  • She is deadly serious, takes her job as top priority and always puts the safety of others first. When fighting a villain, once she's secured civilian safety, she goes about attempting to break them as quickly as possible, with brutal efficiency. She operates as much outside India as she does within it.
  • A part of the previous generation of crystal-bearers, she lived the furthest away from the rest. The three other A-Rank crystal-bearer operated up and down the West Pacific. When a psychotic child with the red crystal emerged from Australia and cut their way up the to Japan, she was too late to intervene before they had murdered countless civilians and a dozen superheroes, including the other crystal-bearers.
    • She has since taken it as her job to keep tabs on the new generation and try to guide towards a righteous path.

THE SEWER KING

  • Identity: Hieronymus Van Rensselaer, Villain, career criminal, public identity.

  • Powers & Abilities:

    • Low Level Super Strength: Despite not putting any time into physical improvement, the Sewer King is very strong, capable of lifting a full-grown human off the ground with just one hand.

    • Super Senses: The Sewer King's senses are equivalent to those of a rat of human size and stature, so his ability to smell, hear, and taste are above and beyond that of a regular human's.

    • Immunity A life in the sewers has granted the Sewer King immunity to toxic waste, various diseases, and poison.

  • Description: Here

  • Personality: Irritable, emotionally needy, and having a whole host of issues, the Sewer King is basically the average 19 year old in terms of personality. He has abandonment issues stemming from the actions of his biological parents, and is insecure over his bizarre appearance. A life in the sewers has made his already questionable hygiene unmistakably bad. The Sewer King sees Easton City as a target that must be made an example of, but is cordial to residents on an individual basis. He's also a hopeless romantic, looking for anyone willing to spend to some time together with him.

  • Background:

    • Hieronymus' parents were mad scientists living in Easton City, who often conducted bizarre experiments involving animals. Due to the genetic damage his parents inflicted on themselves, Hieronymus was born as a hybrid between a sewer rat and a human. His parents soon regretted having a son who was part-rat, and abandoned him during his infancy, literally throwing him away in the trash.

    • Hieronymus was rescued and adopted by a pair of sanitary workers who lived outside of Easton City, in a poor rural community. When he came of age, Hieronymus' adopted parents persuaded him to seek opportunities in Easton City, and maybe find his real parents too. His attempts to make a new life in the big city failed, due to his appearance, and Hieronymus soon grew a grudge towards the people of Easton City, who he saw as vain, wasteful, and arrogant.

    • When he had enough of Easton City, Hieronymus fled underground into the city's sewer network, where he established a base of operations. Now 19 years old, Hieronymus crowned himself the Sewer King, and regularly plans attacks on the surface to humiliate the people of Easton City.

[up][up][up]I was calling them Crystal-Bearers, myself. I might (might) not join either, but I'll make ya more of 'em cause I love character creation more than anything. This one is also definitely an NPC.

Sapphire

  • Desert Donald, villain, more of a mercenary
  • Another crystal-bearer, she has the blue crystal
    • She has a limited form of telekinesis. Specifically, it can only work on something alive. For some reason, she needs to use their own bioelectric energy or something to pull it off. She can, of course, lift herself to fly.
    • She can project energy in the form of lasers or solid shields. She can project them from herself or around/from any spot she can see, letting her shoot lasers from odd angles.
    • She can density-shift towards the light end, phasing through solid objects.
    • She, too, has a mental defense. She can't really fight off intrusion but she has constant awareness of her mind and any foreign elements in it. If a given psychic is not actively effecting her, she'll pinpoint any tampering they've done and shrug off any suggestions they left.
    • Her super form makes her disintegrates her clothes and makes her flesh and spine transparent, leaving behind what looks like a skull, rib cage and pelvis, with associate limbs, freefloating in the air. While vastly increasing her power output, any damage to her body will cause the form to violently collapse. Last time she used this form, it nearly left her naked and dead.
  • African-American female, 18. Tall-ish and fit, with an afro. Her eyes have turned blue. The crystal runs up her whole spine outside her skin.
  • The Blue Rikishi was a man of hedonistic delights and a laidback attitude, but he combined it with a strong sense of duty and a keen analytical mind. Sapphire does not resemble him in the sense of duty, but she shows many of his other traits. She is greedy and lazy, and full of a bad attitude. She thinks with this power she can finally take what the world owes her. She has a similar sense of humor to her predecessor, incredibly dark.
  • When the Rikishi finally succumbed to his wounds against the Red Child, Sapphire was in the middle of running from mobsters who didn't like she ditched some rather expensive merchandise to escape police scrutiny. When the crystal came to her, she evaded capture, only to come back and very aggressively renegotiate the terms of her contract. Since then, she's hired her services out to a number of different shady characters. She avoids truly difficult jobs, preferring things that are a cinch with her powers.

Here is the Character Sheet, and if you allow me to piggy back off your introductory scene, and have my character just bust into it.

MOON WARDEN

  • Identity: Iridia, daughter of Thalla(Thallasdottir?), Folk hero, very public identity(more on that later)
  • Powers & Abilities:
    • Blessing of the Moon: As champion, among other things, of the moon she receives her blessing. This wards her body against evil magic and pushes her body to peak human potential and beyond depending of the phases of the moon, being at its strongest on a full moon night and at its weakest on the day of a new moon. It manifests as white glowing bands and shapes on her body; a circle on her forehead, parallel vertical stripes coming down from her hairline, passing down her eyes and ending in her collar bone, a pair of bands on her arms; one on each forearm near the wrist, two in each arm near the shoulder, then a diamond over her heart and one in the middle of her back, 3 horizontal stripes wrapping over each of the sides of her stomach, wide bands around her mid-thighs, vertical stripes from her knees to the top of her feet. These increase their glow or decrease it in accord with the current power.
    • Path of the Wild: Iridia has developed and refined this fight style throughout her life, inspired by the creatures of nature. In execution it is rather explosive and acrobatic, while seeming very primal and even crude, despite its refinement. Through it she's learned to read combatants both inside and outside of combat, able to glean meaning and intent to a very advanced degree. Having achieved this The Moon gave her the ability to speak this very way; projecting her intent wordlessly.
    • Moon-Blade: Forged by the storm gods from a moonbeam, Moon-blade is a short wide hilt-less sword with a wide thick pommel to balance the weapon. It is seemingly made of a silvery, glassy ceramic. Due to its magical construction it is incredibly durable, and possesses the ability of forming into light to be stashed away or to be recalled towards Iridia. It also stores moonlight inside itself to be used as blasts of healing or harming light.
  • Description: Iridia is a young woman of a short stature, and a lithe lean build. Her skin is of a dark complexion, with a full head of long flowing raven hair. Currently she'd be wearing a somewhat revealing ceremonial suit of armour, consisting of a long dyed hide loincloth covering both front and back, a set of hide shin guards, a chest piece of form fitting plates of bone, ceramics and wood all painted white woven atop a sheet of brined cloth, a set of bracers with plates of wood over them and a smooth porcelain mask.
  • Personality: Iridia is a rather sagely, cool and serious sort of person, stonefaced and stoic. However, almost paradoxically she is rather explosive if pushed to emote, whatever said emotion is.
  • Background: The legend tells of a people and a land lost to time. A people unfortunate, worshippers of the moon, who's chieftain line had been eliminated by war, assassinations and other calamities, leading to the youngest daughter of the most ill fitting chieftain becoming chieftess. This cheiftess became the person upon which the unfortunate people placed their faith to lead them. To escape that pressure the chieftain girl took to the moon as a confidant and advisor. Oddly enough, the moon responded, perhaps due to pity, perhaps the girl was beautiful, perhaps it was on a whim. Whatever the reason, the girl and the moon became friends, student and mentor, and eventually lovers. Such was their bond the moon chose the girl as her champion. And thus the people she lead entered an age of prosperity under the girl's wing. And with the help of the moon the girl lived long, many years more that she was to live had they never met.
After a time however, the girl, now a woman, began to feel weary, and sought for her partner to give her some time to rest. The moon didn't accept, as the girl was asking her for a rest eternal, so the moon sealed her in a wooden statue of her younger self, giving her a temporary rest, promising to bring her back when it be necessary. And so, years passed, the moon people disappeared, or rather, were conquered, and the statue was stolen. Her tale was passed through generations and through the world, often twisted as stories often are.. Which brings us to modern day America; the patient Moon has had enough of bearing witness of the cruel changing world, of her champions being constantly killed, and it was time to bring back the first she had, the best she'd ever raised.

The graceless warrior, wielder of the edgeless blade, prophet of the old religions, writer of fluent nonsense, saviour of soul and song.

I'd like to piggyback in as well, if that's cool. I think I can figure a way for Xy to show up, given teh mayhem that's y'all have already started :P

Xyberpunk, also known as 'Xy'

  • Identity: Enhanced by the now-deceased cyberneticist and theoretical bio-engineer Hank Groves, Humanoid Combat Cyborg 'Xyberpunk' uses the nickname 'Xy' with close associates; sadly, however, her real name is unknown. She is typically heroic, with a touch of indifference depending on the situation. She tries to lay low as much as possible, and is thus not publicly known as a hero; unfortunately, she is unable to find much work beyond the odd, one-off manual labor jobs.

  • Powers & Abilities: The most obvious powers Xyberpunk possesses are her enhanced physical abilities, which are often beyond the feats of Olympic athletes; feats such as being capable of lifting nearly 1,000 lbs., as well as running, at full sprint, around 12 meters per second. Most of her body is thusly heavily reinforced, with many different pieces replaced entirely for 'better' cybernetic or bio-engineered parts, which allows her to utilize her strength and speed in close-quarters combat. Her skin has been also been reinforced with nano-polymers that can stop most small-arms fire, though most calibers associated with larger rifles will puncture through regardless.
However, she is far from perfect; despite being a strong close-quarters combatant, she has no real defense against ranged attacks beyond moving evasively until she's able to close the distance gap. She's also still very susceptible to high-energy impacts, which can still damage or disable her 'wetware'; though a tank shell probably won't kill her, it will knock her on her ass and hurt like hell too.

  • Description: Xy appears to be around 27 years old, stands at 5' 7" tall, has dark olive skin, and a tone of muscle akin to a female wrestler; her hair, a former mohawke that’s now pulled back into a ponytail, is a strange, bright-pink color, and her irises are also an unusual shade of yellow. Typically, she wears a snug pair jeans, black work boots, and an army-green sleeveless jacket pulled over whatever shirt she decided to wear that day.

  • Personality: Having no recollection of whomever she was before becoming what she is now, Xy is usually distant from those around her. At first, she was dismissed as being inattentive or attention-deficit, but the truth was, at first, that she usually paid just enough attention to keep her emotional distance while still gaining all the necessary information from whatever encounter she's participating in. Spending time in Easton has loosened her social boundaries somewhat, but when her combat software engages it alters her perception of the world; thus, she tends to become clinical and/or 'cold' when speaking while in combat.

  • Background: Nothing is known of Xy's prior life. Three years ago, Federal Government Agents successfully breached a secret rural compound owned by Henry Graves and several of his associates. There, after both failing to capture, and killing the group of assorted scientists, engineers, and doctors, they discovered Xy as the last living test subject. Graves himself had purged the facilities computer network during the attack, eliminating any information on Xy's former life.
After two days of inactivity, she awoke inside a government facility, where they attempted to interrogate her without success. She broke free the next day, and although she was chased for the two years after, it seems the government has diverted their attentions elsewhere. She eventually settled on the outskirts of Easton City, where she does any odd job for any price, trying to keep her nose out of other people's business. Despite her wants, the concentration of supers in Easton makes it very difficult to stay unseen as a super...

UPDATE, Halloween/October: In the time since the events of the Bank Heist, Xy has been hired as a bouncer for The Black Flamingo. Thanks to having a steady job, her socialization skills have improved slightly, and she seems to be a bit happier as a person. She's still keeping an eye out for people like TALOS, and she has no idea of the more nefarious goings-on that happen in the quieter parts of the Flamingo, but beyond that she's at least financially in a better place.

@Sanojutsu: Great to have you (and Tails Doll) join my game! Moon Warden is a great concept, is she based on any existing legend? Approved, in any case.

@Reservoir: Xyberpunk is approved.

I need however, to know if your characters are heroes, anti-heroes or villains. I'm guessing heroes right now? Remember you can change their status later, if desired.

And yeah, you can 'piggyback' on current events. I suspect things are about to get more chaotic!

PS. I might like to use Xyberpunk's creator's later, would that be OK?

[up]Not really based on anything older than myself, just my own attempts of writing original folk stories. Also, if you want to use lady Moon as an NPC you can go ahead and do so.

The graceless warrior, wielder of the edgeless blade, prophet of the old religions, writer of fluent nonsense, saviour of soul and song.

Great job then, and I probably will when appropriate.
