Dragoner

Name: Elis Cairon

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Character: Elis, contrary to his appearance, is a quiet and unemotional man. He rarely talks and his words never shine with enthusiasm. Despite his status as a hero who impressed a Dragon of Light, he cannot be said to really like people.

Appearance: Elis has neat blonde hair, blue-gray eyes, and pale white skin. His body is thin but muscular, and he is tall and imposing in stature. Over a green tunic and brown trousers he wears a suit of grey armor, with a shield imposed with the symbol of Greica.

Faction: Greica

Weapon of Choice:

  • Arming Sword: Elis's favorite. He uses this in most one on one duels.

  • Spear: Elis's primary weapon in battles against armies of Mooks.

  • Axe: Usually used in battles against armies who are not Mooks.

  • Warhammer: For when the other melee weapons will not cut it.

  • Crossbow: For ranged battles.

Talents and Powers:

  • Jack-Of-All-Trades: Skilled in the use of multiple weapons. Not really bad at anything, even outside of war, but by that same token not good at most anything else.
  • Ray of Light: By tapping into the power of Aurum, Elis can fire beams of light. These beams can can reflect off most surfaces and home in on enemies.note 

Biography: Born in Flyvon's Ridge, Elias is no stranger to conflict. However, he did not actually live in Flyvon's Ridge for very long. After it was discovered that Elis showed a great amount of potential and intelligence, he was kidnapped by a group of Greican raiders and sold off to a powerful and influential family there. At this point, Elias does not remember his parents, and he considers the family of Greican nobles he lives with his true family... As hard as they can be to live with.

Still, fate saw to it that he would return to Flyvon's Ridge one day. Very quickly Elias progressed through the ranks of warriors by virtue of possessing so many talents in so many different fields. Jealous of the young man, they sent him to what they thought was a demeaningly small battle in his hometown. Soon enough, however, it became apparent that this "small battle" had the potential to erupt into a full on war between all the nations of the world, due to the presence of [[Unobtainium extremely valuable ore]]. However, Elias, loathe to see his home ransacked, quickly defused the tension, and in the end nobody walked out with the ore, or even with the knowledge that it was so powerful.

As it turns out, this ore was the property of a Dragon of Light. The dragon, impressed by Elias' for maintaining his property and stopping what could have been another Age of Blood, offered to create a vow between the two. Elias agreed.

Blessed with power, Elias returned to Greica. Rumors got out about how he became a Dragoner, especially one with a pact with such a notorious species of dragon but Elias' mouth was sealed. He waits now for his chance to shine...

Dragon:

Name: Aurum

Age: 16,897

Gender: Male

Character: In contrast with the dragoner he is bonded with, Aurum seems almost immature and almost senile. Under this exterior, however, lies a dragon who has lived a long life, and when he needs to be he can be every bit as dangerous as he should.

Appearance': In his human form, Aurum can be said to resemble a wizard. With a long, white beard, garbed in solar colors, no one can be mistaken; Aurum is an old, magic dude. This is presumably the point. In his dragon form, he is colored the same way as his robes in human form, and despite his age he appears almost youthful.

Element:

  • Light: Aurum is a Dragon of Light. In his human form he is capable of firing beams, just like Elias, and these also curve like how Elias' do. In his dragon form, his powers are a bit different. Aurum exudes light from every pore, and this light is capable of blinding every pure human who stares at Aurum. (Those who do not see Aurum are immune.) His Breath fires a large beam capable of burning through castle walls.note 

Reason For Bonding: Elias, in preventing the catastrophe that would be another Age of Blood, impressed Aurum, and he also loved how he ultimately protected the ore that he guarded. He knows that it's only a matter of time before some Dragoners find it, and thus he has all the reason in the world to bond with Elias.

Other: OK, so about that ore. I was considering maybe having it just be Greica and Sefrein, but I doubted they were not in war already. If they were not and you do not like my character preventing a world ending war, I can change it back. I also recognize that you did not list Dragons of Light. I'm mostly just joining this because I want to play as a character with Frickin' Laser Beams as a power and thought dragons were cool. I can drop out and just use the name and concept somewhere else.

Regarding the Light and lasers, that could be done by a Dragon of Life, they can breath 'Energy' so Lasers would be a definite possibility for them, they are kinda the white mages of this setting.

Also while the two nations are officially not at war there is always an astounding number of soldiers sent to the Expanse for... 'Border-patrols'.

Maybe really not another Age of Blood, but at least another official war which would be bad enough. Another Age of Blood would be akin to the Cold War going hot.

Other than that the character looks good.

Been an awfully busy week for me. But I'm already done with one of the two characters needed. I just need to find myself some spare time to finish writing my dragon character.

So, since my health seems finally be back to normal, I'll start after some persons I know made their SU's or next Wednesday, whatever will happen earlier, the Signups will be left open so no worries there, now before I start prewrtiting the first post I only wanted to know if you would like the start to be combat centric or not, I could do both.

Here it is, finally

Name: Norvis Icenos

Age: 25

Gender: Male

Character:

Norvis is an introverted individual. Quiet most of the time, yet capable of making a display of charisma, should the need arise. He likes to think of himself as a cold, detached strategist. However, Norvis is far more sensitive than he would like, and he's deeply affected by the events that surround him. He just happens to be better than most at hiding it. Being incredibly professional in attitude and demeanor, he insists on being called by his title: "Dragoner Icenos"

Appearance:

Norvis has short dark hair, hazel-brown eyes, and a paler shade of olive skin. Tall and thin, what he lacks in muscle is compensated by his skill and agility. His most distinguishing facial feature is his aquiline nose. He wears a custom-tailored suit of armor made of leather and chainmail intertwined together, long enough to reach his knees, with only a few bits of silver-colored plate attached on the ribcage and the shoulders, and many, many small bags and pockets.

Faction: Sefrein

Weapon of Choice:

Spear: Norvis uses a particular variation of this polearm known as "bill"

Crossbow: Always preferring to fight from a safe distance, Norvis uses his crossbow when possible.

Dagger: When fighting in such close quarters that using either the spear or the crossbow is out of question, Norvis falls back on his reliable dagger.

Talents and Powers:

Natural Alchemist: Norvis has had, since his childhood, a burning passion for alchemy. Skilled and learned when it comes to plants, Norvis can create balms that will soothe even a purulent wound to poisons that can kill a grown man in unspeakable agony

Life Shard: When tapping into the power of his dragon, Norvis can, when wounded, encase himself in a block of ice where he'll slowly heal.

Biography:

Born into a family of bourgeois, Norvis had the luxury of attending school in a place where it was normally reserved for the nobility. His shy attitude wasn't quite a boon for maintaining relationships, and being the only lowborn among a group of "highborn" nobility made him develop a rather cynical outlook on his homeland's society. His only solace was found in the gardens of the Academy of Sefrein-Alba, where he could tend to the flowers in peace.

Enlisting at the age of 17 in the Sefrein army to flee the marginalization of the Academy, Norvis found himself in a nepotic and corrupt environment. Managing to achieve the rank of Lieutenant at the age of 18 and the rank of Captain at the age of 20, his military career came to a dead end. Despite having all the qualifications to keep going upwards in the military hierarchy, his status as a lowborn kept him from progressing. And things would have stayed that way had he not met the dragon Seinhe-Vi'tell

The Battle of the Lodian River was the turning point of his career. It is unknown what precisely happened there, but the end results are well know by everyone: Sefrein won the skirmish and welcomed a new Dragoner among its ranks.

The Icenos family has now been promoted to the lower nobility. But Dragoner Icenos' jaded outlook on the nobility as a whole has not been lessened by experience and age. His skirmishes against Greica and Chaijan have instilled in him a respect, if not outright admiration, for Greican meritocracy and Chaijan's technology. An admiration that borders on treason.

Dragon:

Name: Seinhe-Vi'tell (Seinhe)

Age: 987

Gender: Female

Character:

Seinhe is civil, polite and elegant in speech. Also obsessed with order, but only because she sees it as a way to protect life. A being whose entire life is guided by her ideals, she'd rather break than betray her own principles.

Appearance:

Human: A pale-as-snow slender female that evokes an eerie sensation to all those who gaze upon her. Cyan eyes break the icy facade, with a stare full of emotions and ideals. She commonly appears as being dressed in a feathered robe, not unlike those of a wizard, ranging in colors from white to teal to cyan. Her most distinguishing facial feature is her slightly pointy nose. Overall, as Dragoner Icenos himself has put: "she's a spear, a stick with a pointy end."

Dragon: A long, slender serpentine body covered in feathers. Her face is more similar to a bird's beak than a reptile's snout. Her roars are more akin to a bird's screeches than actual roars.

Elements:

Ice: Can summon a swarm of sharp icicles to surround her, acting both like a shield and a homing projectile to any foe that dares come too close.

Life: Seinhe can mold ice to form a monolith, energizing it with life energy, healing and enpowering all those who touch it.

Reason for bonding:

It is not well known what really happened at the Lodian River that fateful day. Bards, troubadors and minstrels have all spun tales about the deed, although none are, according to Dragoner Icenos, even close to what really happened there. But the most accepted version of the story (and the one Seinhe likes the most) is that the she was previously bonded with a Greican Dragoner, who had grown greedy, prideful and chaotic by countless glories and successes. Yet she was bound to him, in both laws of men and gods. 'Twas only when Dragoner Icenos (by then, just "Captain Icenos") struck the heart of the fallen hero that Seinhe managed to free herself of this life-bond. After the battle was over, Seinhe appeared in human form to her liberator, and saw something in the glint of the eye of Norvis that made her willing to bond with another human again.

Accepted, the Bonding reason is very nice, also, less as an error (actually not at all as one) and more for worldbuilding and story purposes: While there is indeed a not to low chance to be stuck because of your birth in Sefrein there are exceptions, if you're lucky enough you can be promoted even as a non-Dragoner peasant, chances for that are of course much higher at the front.

Dragoner

  • Name: Dai Jinhai
  • Age: 98
  • Gender: Male
  • Character: Dai Jinhai is a mischievous old man who wants nothing more than to dissuade or kill those like his former self and those that he perceives wronged him, be it through political or martial means. This does not mean he has not learned to hide his intentions, knowing that even the most powerfull have to bow to the many. Sarcastic (and an asshole when he deems himself safe)
  • Appearance: 5' 7'' tall, Muscular and sinewy, Dai Jinhai has a body that has gone trough the hardships of life, bearing an impressive collection of scars of all kinds, be it from fights with animals, bullet wounds or accidents in the mountains. He has a long white beard reaching as far as his collarbones, is bald and most of the time wears old looking white (yellowy) or black robes and worn sandals. His teeth are stained yellow from tea. His eyes are of an icy blue.
  • Faction: Formerly Sefrein, now Greica
  • Weapon of Choice: Monks spade, no crescent moon bit.
  • Talents and Powers:
    • Dai Jinhai is adept in playing and manipulating people for his own benefits
    • Growth and Decay: By tapping into Qinchens power, Dai Jinhai coats his weapon in the power of Nature and Death, bringing either sudden area based tissue death or rapid, up to cancerous healing to the wounds he inflicts. If he uses this power, Dai Jinhais sclera turns black and his irises turn to a sickly green with an obvious draconic pupil.
  • Biography: Born in Sefrein as the son of a nobleman, Dai Jinhai openly abused his money and status to get whatever he wanted, be it women, delicacies, precious items or mutilations of his enemies. This he did for 25 years - at which point he had become such a disgrace that he was dragged to court and banned from his hometown, disowned and, further humilating him, kicked out in a rather big ceremony. He wandered since, reflecting on his past life, and realizing that what he did was not courteous and indeed despicable. His wandering sent him over the border to Greica, where he climbed the mountains, finding a cave for a night. At this point, he met Qinchen, though he did not reacted with fear upon the dragon revealing itself the next morning - from behind him and the depths of the cave. Since then, 50 years have passed, and the two have been living side by side, Dai Jinhai sometimes bringing Qinchen animals that hid from the dragon in caves or ravines, Qinchen healing his bad wounds.

Dragon

  • Name: Qinchen
  • Age: 6,978
  • Gender: Male
  • Character: Mostly playing calm and collected, Qincheng hides a devious heart just like his partner. Has a Vitriolic Best Buds relationship with Dai Jinhai.
  • Appearance:
  • Elements:
    • Nature: rapid healing of organical matter. Mutation inducing breath. The breath signaled by green parts of his body suddenly turning green, as Qinchen gathers power, then emptying towards the head.
    • Death: communication, creation of desolate land if really, really angry (basically decay)
  • Reason for Bonding: Qinchen and Dai Jinhai share a common goal and spirit: to exact revenge on those that wronged them, as well as bringing good conduct to the world, even if it means having to subjugate it under their foot and claw.

  • Gender: Female; Used to be physically male
  • Character: Honor-bound and loyal, Johanda is the epitome of lawfulness. She follows the orders of her superiors without question, and respects her fellow Dragoners. Despite this, she can be quite jovial at times, when she’s allowed to. She can be great fun to be around at those times, although at most times… She’s a bit of a hardass.

  • Weapon of Choice: Bastard sword, wielded in one hand.
  • Talents and Powers: She can enhance her physical strength when tapping into her dragon’s power, even beyond her regular physical training that allows her to wield a bastard sword with a single hand.
  • Biography: Johanda was born as a boy named Jerald, and grew up in an orphanage. Jerald had always felt like more of a girl, than a boy. She was adopted by a high-ranking military man and his wife at age 10. Her parents both instilled a sense of obedience and loyalty into her. At 13, she told her parents about how she identified. They were fine with it, and allowed her to change her name to Johanda. At 16, she realized she wanted to be a Dragoner. So, she went out on her own, with her bastard sword, looking for a dragon in the vast wilderness, with only the tools necessary for survival. She soon found two dragons in mortal combat, fighting tooth and claw. One appeared to be smaller than the other, and was trying to fly away, but the larger one seemed to have injured its wings. “Filthy Hybrid!” She heard the larger dragon shout, and that act of discrimination was all that Johanda needed to hear. She charged at the beast, slashing with her bastard sword. The dragon, one of the nature variety, used its magic to break several of her bones, and would have killed her if the smaller dragon, the hybrid, had not intervened. She lunged at the other dragon’s neck, and slashed its throat out. Johanda lay on the ground, her breath heaving as her body desperately tried to fix the damage. The dragon then looked at the dying girl with pity. As she repaired the body, she looked into her soul. She realized that this girl was in a most unfortunate situation, and decided to… Well, just sorta… Fix the body to match the soul. It was quite the shock for Johanda, but a pleasant one. A few days later, they performed the Vow, forever bonding them together.

Dragon

  • Name: Deothraxia
  • Age: 7,000
  • Gender: Female
  • Character: Fun-loving and curious, Deothraxia is one of the less serious dragons you might meet. She makes jokes all the time, and often will be found in her human form. But when she needs to fight, she invariably goes into her dragon form, and when she does, she can be a terror to behold.

Apprentice

  • Name: Ferron Ragnar
  • Age: 18
  • Gender: Male
  • Character: Not known for saying much, very curious about weaponry, mineralogy, and is fascinated by building in general. Has developed a keen eye for detail and quality due to his father's sometime stern sense of standards. Despite his soft-spoken nature, he has hidden depths that may be explored and developed over time.
  • Appearance: Black hair kept short for practical reasons (mainly to avoid having one's hair set on fire while working in a forge), light blue eyes, 5'5”, and 148 lbs with upper body strength brought about by his tenure as a Blacksmith Apprentice. Despite having a build that would be considered healthy for a commoner, he is noticeably weaker when compared to Dragoners. Tends to wear a beige tunic underneath a black apron and is goggles, boots, and leather gloves when forging, which is often if he's not gathering firewood or in one of the very few times of his schedule where he's not working. Has started to develop a bit of a “Forger's Tan” from his Apprenticeship.
  • Faction: Sefrein
  • Weapon of Choice: Smithing hammers whenever traditional weapons can't be found.
  • Talents/Powers:
    • General Smithing: While his knowledge is limited, Ferron has obtained some experience with blacksmithing both from his apprenticeship and family history. He has a proficient understanding about the common ores used in crafting weapons and armor, along with how to create and repair some items. This ability will be further improved through experience.
    • Jack of all Weapons: As a Blacksmith Apprentice, Ferron has learned how to forge a variety of weapons with competence, thus allowing him to understand how they work while being taught how they were used. While he has no mastery of any weapon in particular, he has practiced with common weapons such as staffs, swords, throwing weapons, and axes during his free time whenever he wasn't busy with daily chores since he was 12. While he has a general level of skill with these four weapon types, his level of adeptness will improve over time through experience.
    • Resourcefulness: Stemming from his daily routine of gathering building materials since he was 12, Ferron has learned how to identify useful materials and components for weaponry and armor, often just by looking at them. In some cases, he's even able to put together simple weaponry (like wooden swords or wooden spears) that don't require forge work on the spot, granted he has all the building materials.
    • Able-Bodied: Years of forging have given Ferron Ragnar improved physical strength, allowing him to lift heavier objects and use heavier weapons such as hammers and axes with greater ease than someone with an average build. The improvement of his physical abilities however do not extend to running speed nor stamina, which he seldom ever needed anyway.
  • Biography: For generations, the Ragnar family has been but one of many families in Sefrein dedicated to the skill of Blacksmithing. While tradition has played a much more significant role than choice when it came to the family trade, the Ragnar have continued to smith almost anything from weapons of various types to simple nails and horse shoes throughout the years. Spending most of his life under the constant demands of various house lords throughout Sefrein and the pressure of continuing the family tradition, Ferron Ragnar has spent years under the tutelage of his father Stann since the age of 12. While his first year was spent mainly gathering wood and other resources, Ferron would prove himself worthy of smithing nails, horseshoes, and other small metal items days before his 13th birthday. By the time he was 13 and a half, Ferron proved to his father that he was ready and able to start smithing weapons and armor. While he would need to spend some time overcoming rookie mistakes, Ferron quickly began to show a dedication to his craft, which was reflected in the sheer quality and attention to detail when it came to smithing weaponry and armor. As of the RP's present, Ferron has shown that he's almost skilled enough to qualify as a novice blacksmith of his own, and can also demonstrate that he can hold his own in typical fights.
  • Other: Unlike most characters, Ferron Ragnar will not start out as a dragoner. He has often imagined going on adventures, but doubted that would ever happen considering his station in society. He has respect for the less arrogant dragoners, and hopes to show the true potential of his skills by one day crafting high-quality armors and possibly even weapons for dragons.

•Name: Keter James Urrus

•Age: 21

•Gender: Male

•Character: Rather distant and one-sided at first glance. He has been through such self-isolation, he doesn't really know how to interact with people any other way. He will open up, given enough time. He is dedicated to his task of finding a mysterious anti-dragon organization, then eliminating them to bring an Air-Type Dragoness closure, and also fulfill her Task so he may Bond with her, and prevent harm from coming to her again. He has a strong moral compass, nurtured by his late adolescence, and as such, often displays charity to the less fortunate. Orphans especially, since he was once in their position.

•Appearance: Blond matted hair he tries to keep trimmed when he can. he has a little bit of fuzz on his chin as well, same color as his hair. His eyes are hazel, ranging from blue to grey to brown. He is quite well built and very strong, mainly due to personal efforts before sixteen, and traveling with a large amount of equipment on his person from sixteen to present age. Height is five foot ten, weight is 160.4. (Probably inaccurate, not sure how to calculate weight based on height, age, and muscle mass.)

•Faction: Sefrein-born, but has no interest in the conflict.

•Weapon of Choice: He's trained himself with all manner of weapons, so nearly all common weapons he can use somewhat well. But if given a choice, he'd prefer to use his katana up close and a flintlock pistols (I assume if there are one-off muskets, there are also flintlock pistols, since those were developed, at least in our history, at about the same time) at ranged.

•Talents and Powers: Survivalist's Paranoia - Keter carries everything he finds with him on the off chance it might be perhaps somewhat useful one day at some point in the future. Killing-Conditioned - Keter has no issues with killing foes. In fact, he will not hesitate if the enemy is confirmed to be a baddie. Guilt's Mark - Keter takes a considerably longer time to develop trust in others, or show much emotion at all. Once trust is formed, however, he is extremely loyal. Haunted by Dragon Tears - Keter cannot bear to see a dragon upset to tears. He is reminded of Kaydia's turmoil when she felt his father die. He feels guilty for not consolidating her, and thusly responsible for her suicide. Tactical Genius - Keter can strategize a solution to a tactical encounter on the spot when a situation demands it.

•Biography: Keter was born to parents whom he felt loved him more for what he stood for, an heir, and not for who he was. His father being a Lord, and a Dragoner, he was expected to be full of greatness like his dad. This was not the case, as Keter preferred the more practical skills to the fancy flashy stuff. Excepting sword-fighting and archery. He would often go behind his parents' backs to teach himself these skills. His father's dragon, named Kaydia, was an Air-Type Dragon, and was one of, if not the only, friend he ever had. For the first 15 years of his life, this continued. By this age, he had become quite healthy and strong in stature mainly because of his own efforts. But one day, while riding in an carriage to some sort of event through a mountain pass beside a large lake some thirty feet below, a somewhat mild earthquake rippled the area. Despite the mildness of the disaster, the animals pulling the carriage were exceedingly frightened and bolted with the vehicle in tow. The resulting landslide from the earthquake, and the inability to control the animals, caused the carriage to tumble off the side of the cliff towards the lake. Keter himself survived by jumping clear of the rockslide zone, and controlling his descent down enough to make a reasonably safe landing in the water. Wreckage thrown from the carriage, mainly floating bits of wood, was what he used to stay afloat. Thankfully, fishermen, whom were nearby when the earthquake hit, and more or less remained unscathed by the shaking and the waves caused by the falling rocks, ventured close enough to pick him up and help him. These rocks, unfortunately, ensured Keter was the only survivor. The fisherman's guild, that operated out of a town on the far side of the lake, was where they took him to be treated for his injuries. Once the initial shock wore off, Keter lied about his social standing, and said he had been traveling with a more well-to-do friend of his. He offered to work for them to make up for the trouble he had caused them. They would not hear of it, but agreed to help him find a job in town. Until he could get his own place, he was given one of the rooms on the upper floor of the guild to sleep in. That night, while looking at the lake from the window of the room, he spotted his father's dragon, Kaydia, land at the location of the landslide's offshoot, and no doubt where the wreckage was buried under, and begin to desperately dig through the rocks. Her cries of desperation chilling his spine. He considered going out to comfort her, but he decided it would be better to just let her be alone for a while. He would hate himself for that choice for the rest of his life, once the next morning came. Hearing a commotion, he went downstairs to inquire of the issue. His answer was that a dead Air Dragon was by the landslide area, head under the water, drowned. From then on, he blamed himself for her suicide, making him a distant and closed-off person. He lived for three years in that town, joining an exploration guild, and becoming quite good at it, making a respectable amount that he spent responsibly. He enjoyed exploration and traveling so much, he set out on his own, donating his house and most of his money to the fishing guild that had been so kind to him. For a year, he traveled the land, becoming known as "The Pack-Rat Adventurer", due to his gear, supplies, weapons, and random objects and tools he found that might be useful to him in a small number of highly improbable scenarios all being carried with him wherever he went. But he had to keep his identity secret, fearing what would happen if someone recognized him as the son of the Lord who had perished in an accident three years ago. To this effect, he made a leather mask with glass lenses to see through, and a curved iron nozzle-shaped vent over his mouth for breathing and speech. Not too long after his nineteenth birthday, he found himself in an underground dungeon abandoned long ago, but used by bandits as a hideout. The dungeon wasn't for people, but for dragons. A possible relic from a bygone age? Exploring further, he discovered an Air-Type dragoness who had been branded and trapped in one of the cells by a mysterious anti-dragon terror organization, then left to rot. The bandits had made a game of taunting her profusely, keeping her barely fed, and demanding she Vow with their leader or continue to suffer. Seeing her trapped, Keter killed the Leader and forced the rest of them to surrender. He then unlocked the gate for the dragoness, allowing her to finally leave and get a proper meal out of the captors, whom Keter had tied up in an easily chompable line. Once she was finished dining, she thanked him for his assistance. Keter, the guilt over Kaydia resurfacing, asked to Bond with her, telling her he would bring her the head of the leader of the organization who had branded her, abused her in various nightmarish ways for years, then left her to die when they "got bored". She accepted, and for the next two years, Keter has been searching for the group, with the only clue being the brand symbol: A circle with a V shape pointing down, which has a four pointed star at the top between the two tips of the V.*

•Other: Not a Dragoner yet. He is in the process of completing the task to do so however. Right handed.
