Nothing is original, don't worry.
Focus on making your story interesting.

Let's try being a bit more specific.
I have two advices.
Never copy just one. Copy tons of it. I'm talking about Quentin Tarantino level here.
Also, you need just enough originality that you wouldn't get sued.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.

Why would you be called out for copying Scott Pilgrim when lots of people do RPG Mechanics 'Verse? Also, first answer is the right one.

So, I'm writing a story that takes place 20 Minutes into the Future, with a smattering of Alternate History. Basically, what happens is that everyone in this world is either ridiculously Genre Savvy, or kind of stupid (like think of anime characters....in an Abridged Series). I will admit now, that the story itself is partly inspired by Scott Pilgrim, and I wanted to ask if people will say I am copying Scott Pilgrim if I put RPG Mechanics into the story? I'm not copying the plot, or any of the characters (aside from age and current place in society) and I don't plan on making references to video games, instead referring more to different subcultures.
The only real story I have written down right now is that the main character is even more Genre Savvy than most people but is quite sick of it, wanting to find someone or something that isn't trying to be "subversive" or "different" whilst also being an Only Sane Man (Well, almost. he has his fair share of stupid moments. Plus he talks to directly to his annoyingly snarky conscience. Sometimes in front of people) and having family members of varying degrees of dysfunctional (His mother is unreasonable at times, while his older brother is distant, extremely successful and generally disapproves of the main character).
Tl;dr If I put RPG mechanics into my story, will I be called unoriginal?
