The writer for this movie, Jane Goldman cowrote X-Men First Class, Days of Future Past and Kingsmen the Secret Service with Matthew Vaughn.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureAre the books any good?
There's a weird feeling when you see something promoted as a "worldwide best-seller" only to be thinking "what is this thing I have literally never heard of before ever?"
Tim Burton proved he can still make good movies with Big Eyes so I have faith.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Honestly, "worldwide best-seller" is pretty much a buzzword with no meaning. That said, the books are pretty good, I definitely recommend them.
As for the trailer, it looks really good. I think Burton is finally cottoning on that he can't be dependent on using Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter for every movie and the story in the books is something right up his alley. My only nitpicks is that I feel like Eva looks too young for Miss Peregrine (but eh, Ability over Appearance and Eva's an awesome actress) and that it looks like they changed Emma's peculiarity from fire to air (if that IS Emma in the ship, that is).

So...........these kids are the X-Men of the early 20th Century?
Harry Potter seems more analogous as a comparison than the X-Men.
Given what I saw in the trailer, I'd say X-Men does fit a lot better than Harry Potter.
It was written by the co-writer of two X-Men movies.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureIf they go by the book, some of the kids have what read as straight up superpowers, others just look strange and out of the oridinary.
The book has as illustrations a lot of found photographs that the author collected, photos from the 19th and early-to-mid-20th century. Part of the fun of them, he said, was coming up with stories to go behind each photo, as he has no way of knowing their context. A lot of them are weird and strange and creepy, a lot of them are people clearing playing with photographic techniques and trickery.
The photos are cool and atmospheric, but otherwise the story is pretty ordinary. It's okay, but nothing to shout about really. If you've read other books about small groups of people who are supernatural or in some other way set apart from the greater run of humanity and who have strange and otherworldy adversaries, then you won't find much new under the sun here. Burton can do a lot with the atmosphere, though, so the film might be worth a look.

@Skeletal Pumpkin The girl with the air peculiarity does appear to be Emma, yes, the actress is listed as Emma Bloom on IMDB. There is a woman doing fire tricks on the poster◊ but that's apparently someone else, they've swapped some things around, it seems.
Just watched the trailer.
Ooh boy, this trailer just appeals so much to my sense of wonder. I'm interested.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. Some of these monster-designs seem rather borderline PG16-y, for lack of a better term (not that I mind). And I don't mean the Argonauts crew.

I read the book and I liked it, so I'm definitely going to see this. :)
I couldn't help but notice that it has a bit of Adaptational Attractiveness going on. In the book, Miss Peregrine was an old and matronly headmistress. Here, she appears to be a young and attractive adventurer type.
I like to keep my audience riveted. That's Eva Green for you.

Considering her work on Penny Dreadful, you'd be shortchanging her acting prowess with that label.
I haven't seen that movie. ^_^;;
I like to keep my audience riveted.WHAT YIUBHAVET SEEN PD????? The BEST SHOW EVER CREATED IN MY LIFE TIME
Its a TV Show on Showtime.
Sadly, it just got cancelled mere hours ago so... Let's not talk about that. Its going to make me angry again.
Soooooo..........what's the twins thing? Like, each of these kids has some peculiar quirk. All I've seen of them is that they look creepy and Eva Green rips a doll in half for them each to play with.
Considering the quality of that ending and the entire season leading up to it, I call bullshit on PD ending naturally. That was probably one of the least natural endings I've seen in awhile.
Let's take it to the proper thread if we want to discuss that though.

I mean, you can argue about the quality of the ending, but the show's creator said that he meant to end the show there.
Yes. I know he did. It's how I learned that there would be no Season 4.
I still stand by what I said and call bullshit. But we're getting rather off topic of Home for Peculiar Children.
On one hand, yes, I know: Tim Burton and his not-so-slight quality dip in recent projects.
On the other hand: Eva Green! And Samuel L. Jackson! And Asa Butterfield and some other apparently quite competent child actors and also it doesn't actually look all that bad?
