I'm not sure, but at the same time I'm leaning toward calling this a Keep Until Better Image Suggested case.
It's not a great image, but it does depict the right kind of architecture.
Check out my fanfiction!Keep Until Better Image Suggested, here.
(Annoyed grunt)Keep Until Better Image Suggested.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Keep Until Better Image Suggested, yeah.
The "Asian-themed town in a largely non-Asian setting" is part of it, but it's just as much about the setting being a general mish-mash of Asian culture. A more specific instance of Theme Park Version basically.
Reaction Image RepositoryThe idea, I think, is that a Super Mario Bros. game normally takes place in the Mushroom Kingdom, which is very very loosely Medieval European Fantasy—or at least that's the architecture of Peach and Bowser's castles. So this Eastern architectural level fits the trope. I just wish Luigi wasn't covered up by that block thing, to make it more clear that this is a Mario game.
This issue has been discussed before.
It was kept because the other suggestions presented didn't show that the setting belong to an otherwise Medieval European Fantasy world, and the current at least has a couple of Western elements included to make a better illustration.

classic final fantasy example [1]◊
That image has been suggested in the previous thread. And I believe it didn't really stick to anyone because it looks like a generic Chinese village, and not enough elements to show that it is an oriental-themed setting in an otherwise Medieval European Fantasy world.

I can get behind that but it also means current is an inversion of the trope which is not helpful for users struggling to make sense of the trope (like me).
It's not an inversion. What's shown is an Eastern level in an otherwise ordinary Mario game. Super Mario 3D World isn't solely set in an Eastern setting. (I think. Still don't have a Wii U to play it on.)
I want to say this◊ or this◊ without text but I can not find it. >.>
Sonic unleashed Dragon Road Zone?◊
WoW's pandaria◊? I love this one.
I have a problem with "Medieval European Fantasy" being a requirement. The name of the trope wasnt even in that, it was specifically a modern Steampunk.
The trope IMO is a Eastern Fantasy Area in a story where the rest of the visible world is not.

If you have issues with the definition, take it to the TRS. As it stands, being a part of a Medieval European Fantasy setting is a requirement of this trope, and none of those suggestions really sell that.
Final Fantasy VII Wutai itself is not an example of the definition that you guys are pushing.
this is not Medieval. but it is western themed in the same world as this◊.

I wonder if that requirement is there only because it's a bluelink, and there's no page for European Fantasy. It later refers to "non-European Fantasy Counterpart Cultures" which distinctly lacks the medieval part. A lot of examples are distinctly not medieval. Nor European.

Check out my fanfiction!"The trope IMO is a Eastern Fantasy Area in a story where the rest of the visible world is not. "
To me those settings look authentic Asian.
"What's shown is an Eastern level in an otherwise ordinary Mario game."
How does that help sell the trope?
I wasn't very satisfied when this was picked in the previous thread (btw, why is this link not a comment on the page?) and wouldn't mind a new picture to be found.
I think it's because the thread didn't come to any kind of consensus on what to do before it was clocked out.
I'd rather pull the current since it's not a very elegant portrayal; you're basically looking at a wall.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? After thinking on it, I do think this needs some kind of repairshop.
I see two types here.
- Old Eastern Counterpart Culture
- Where Modern Fantasy, Steampunk, Cyberpunk, Dungeon Punk and Medieval European Fantasy have a fictional old eastern style counterpart culture somewhere in the world, usually in the east. And a character from there is in the story, usually as an excuse to have a Katana or a Ninja show up in the story.
Then there are just random Asian Theme Park style levels that just pop up out of nowhere in games like Mario, current picture, and Sonic Unleashed's Dragon Road Zone [4]◊.

I think we should shelve this until this can be sorted out in TRS.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"If TRS was only as efficient as this board (at the moment).
Clock is set. I'm good to leave this be until TRS can sort out the trope.
I am totally unfamiliar with the genre but the trope mentions something about a Medieval European Fantasy setting which I cannot detect in the trope image. Is this a proper illustration?
