Hey tropers, the day has arrived. If you were one of our Kickstarter donators last year you've probably seen us tinkering with a new design for months. Within the next couple hours (depending on how fast your DNS updates you'll start hitting our new servers with the updated version of TV Tropes). A huge thanks to those of you who have been monitoring it and giving us feedback throughout the development process. Some of the new features include:
- Updated design throughout for a cleaner browsing experience
- One click sign in with Facebook
- Random Shuffle button to stay on a namespace (hit Random Media then the Shuffle button to randomize that namespace)
- Browse Watchlist in an image view
- History page now highlights sentences that were deleted/added to make it easier to review changes
- New image uploader with built in crop function
- New About Us page so you can see who we are.
- Contact Us form
- Trope Depictions on the home page (artists can submit their own comic to go with a trope)
- Bug List page Query Bugs (and Query Wishlist for tech wishes) to organize and track bugs on the site.
Ok. Let the feedback begin. (See Anxiety Tropes for my current feelings)
Notes:
- Please do not bother asking for the old design to come back. The lease of the old servers did expire at the day of the changeover, the new ones cannot run the old design.
- You can move the sidebar to the left by going into your profile and selecting Lefthand Sidebar.

I'd like to add that there are certain other text elements, like the "Viewing Options" text in the profile screen, which are actually worse than the PM text (white on white...).

Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite. Can I officially request a means to change back to the old skin? To me at least, the aesthetic and feel of this new skin is kind of horrible.
"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"Agreed. This new skins feels too much like Wikipedia, or an Apple product.
And neither of those I enjoy looking at for any length of time

I've been reading this for quite a while and now I must say that I was shocked at the change. It is very modern and sleek in my eyes.
However, it has grown on me over the past few minutes, the only thing that I do not like is the lack of the dark blue or light blue color on the headers.
The new design looks really sleek and modern! I especially like the new Logo. If there was any meaningful critique, I would say that the "Random Trope" buttons do stand out a little from the rest of the design, but otherwise it looks great so far.
In general it looks fine.
The left hand side bar tab would make more sense under the display options with things like Night Vision and Show Spoilers etc.
Three issues with color differences in Night Vision mode.
In night vision Forum Thread Watch lists and Mod posts have bright background with brightly lettering making it a bit hard to read and comes across as a bit glaring.See here for examples. Adjusting at least the lettering colouring so they are dark against the light background would help out quite a bit.
Also the send button in night vision mode is a light background with white lettering you can barely make out the lettering.
Outside of those colour issues in night vision it seems fine to me.
Who watches the watchmen? If you turn on night vision and look at your profile, your username, join date, and email address are black text on a dark gray background, which is hard to read, and the headings that say "Viewing Options" and "More Information" are rendered as white text on a white background, which is impossible to read without highlighting it or turning night vision off.
Images are fucked up now. Everything is stretched to fit the square. Which is really annoying as it ruins many images.
The sidebar is way bigger... why? The sidebar is not as importan as the Articles themselves.
Wait, the site is grey and black on default now? I always used dark mode and assumed that's why mine updated dark.
The new update feels clunkier and less easy to use but maybe that's just due to being so used to the old version.
In day mode (as in with Night Mode disabled), the page is a little too sharp and clean for my tastes. It actually hurt a little. The colors in the margins helped soften the screen and make the reading experience more pleasing. Night mode is okay-ish (Though the send button on the 'Add Post' page is washed out and barely readable), though the lack of color is still rather 'ho-hum'
Umm... This is... Surprising. Especially since it came out of nowhere, and because we just had a redesign a while ago. In fact, this website still had it's old design about an hour ago. So i looked up the site like 5 minutes ago and... wow.
Unlike many people, I think this new design looks fine. Could use a little more blue, however, as just white with some grey looks kind of sterile. Other than that, fine.
Just another day in the life of Jimmy NutrinAgreed absolutely.
I may just be blind but I cant find a way to access my profile for some reason. Other than that (and the lack of forum links at the bottom of a thread) though the only real issue I have with the new layout looks like it is unfinished, empty and lacking in style.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellHonestly, my only opinion is "put it back". Or at least give an option to return to the old layout.

Is it possible to make the sidebars scroll with the screen? I don't like the empty space I see when I am on a thread or a lengthy page.
After re-enabling the classic left-sidebar option, things are throwing me off a bit less, but with the new width of the sidebar (a lot wider than the old version since I was on a Wiki Walk and got the update while opening a new tab and can compare the two), it's a bit disconcerting. Like someone else mentioned earlier, the night mode isn't as dark as it used to be. Otherwise, I like the new UI and stuff, but I do prefer the old sidebar width and night-mode darkness. Maybe it's a bit of They Changed It Now It Sucks but I still prefer the old version.
55 Meh, the old new skin was too much like W Ikia, which I've always associated with cheap, slapped-together rent-a-wikis. This is actually an improvement in some ways.

Creator of the Avatar Arena and its Discord server.Ugh!!! Do not want!
The white... it burns my eyes...
Gonna be another one to say the stretched avatars look weird.
I will also add that avatars with transparent backgrounds now have a weird green one. Or at least that's what it looks like when I am looking at my gallery.

Why isn't there a link to your Thread Watchlist at the bottom of the page anymore?
I don't want to scroll up or click on my profile to get back after catching up with a thread
