Not Thriving: Life Is But A Dream

Life Is But A Dream appears to have been launched without a YKTTW thread back in 2012. It's massively underused; in its four years it has amassed a grand total of 11 examples, 5 wicks (one of which is an index and another one an unpublished fic), and brought in 2 offsite links.

Additionally, there are issues with the description. It seems to be trying to base a trope around the poetic phrase "Life is but a dream" to describe false or imaginary realities, but it reads more like some vague philosophical thesis about this concept with little focus on its tropeable aspects. It's also arguable that it's already covered by tropes like Platonic Cave, Lotus-Eater Machine, and All Just a Dream.

So options seem to be either cutting this or sending it back to YKTTW if there is in fact an original trope hidden underneath this description. Thoughts?

That does seem to be evidence of severe underuse. Opening.

There might be a trope in there...somewhere.

I think it should be sent to YKTTW, so it can gain more examples.

Yeah, Cut and send to YKTTW is probably the best course of action.

Based on the description, I feel like at least parts of it are duplicates of tropes we already have. It mentions living in a dream world mistaking it for the real thing, which sounds like Lotus-Eater Machine.

I find this trope an inscrutable morass, and somewhat doubt that anyone could distill a sensible YKTTW out of it.

^ That's my reasoning for favoring cut over YKTTW as well.

Closing crowner in favour of cutting and sending back to YKTTW if someone is so inclined.

It's been dewicked and cutlisted.

Please remember to make a note on the discussion page the next time.

I've done so and will now lock.
