Hello. It's been brought up on the discussion tab that ThatOneBoss.Pokemon has issues with Conversation in the Main Page, Walkthrough Mode, and questionable entries in general. Given how easy most, if not all, of the Pokemon games tend to be it's somewhat going to be an issue when listing a character one person thinks fits the trope while another doesn't. This issue is then made worse when the Walkthrough Mode shows up telling you how to make That One Boss a joke and remove the difficulty. No matter how many times I personally clean the page, the exact same junk and issues I've listed just come back.

I'm opening a short term thread an inviting as many people as can to discuss which examples currently on the page count, because dealing with those entries will help us a lot in general clean-up and not every person will have played every Pokemon game. Next any Walkthrough Mode will have to be cut, because telling the player how to remove the difficulty of the boss fight is against the page rules. Finally, I'd request for ThatOneBoss.Pokemon to be locked, in order to keep the Conversation in the Main Page and Walkthrough Mode from coming back willy-nilly.

So, who's with me?

i would say whitney, candice, and probably sabrina should stay, but i don't remember the games well enough to say that about anyone else without reading the page more closely or thinking about it a bit more.

removing the walkthrough mode should be fairly simple, as would be locking the page.

I agree with Whitney and Sabrina staying at least. Both of then are hard in their respective generations. I don't know about Candice, I'll have to think about it.

Why is Brock on that page?

He's literally the easiest thing in any of the games. Can we just chop that bit outright?

This is every single gym leader geezums.

Things I actually recall being difficult and being known for being difficult:

  • Sabrina
  • Whitney and her fucking Miltank
  • Lance (in Gen I at least)
  • Commander Mars early on in Platinum

I vote for Gen II Morty to stay (Gen IV Morty is a joke, however).

For the Gen VI bosses, the EXP Share probably shouldn't be taken into account unless we're fine with Gen VI not having any entries on the page (and personally, I do feel Grant and Clemont do deserve their entries sans EXP Share).

Brock can definitely go. His entry is one of the worse Walkthrough Mode magnets precisely because he's the first gym leader that's rather easy even with Charmander.

Gen II Morty can stay as well. He isn't really what I'd call easy either.

This is every single gym leader geezums.

I noticed that too.

This isn't Dark Souls. I understand that difficulty is subjective, but even with that I would say that as it stands it's a bit excessive.

also the reason why I think Candice could be put there is because I remember that her bullshit Snow Cloak Frosslass was an extremely obnoxious roadblock when I was playing Platinum, but maybe other people have different experiences.

Which is another reason this thread was made. Almost every gym leader is listed either from their debuting gen or a remake gen. Something needs to give.

If everyone's okay with it, I'll go and cut Brock.

There are also a few entries on here that are not actually bosses, and just random trainers with very slightly stronger Pokemon.

No objections here.

[up][up]I recall an LP saying something to the same effect, at least.

I have no objections with cutting Brock.

This series is piss easy and shouldn't have this big of a page.

Misty in RBY is known to be pretty hard because Starmie is way more powerful than anything you fight for a long time (and has a high crit rate). I'd keep her.

Kill X and Y because the game hands you the EXP Share and turns it on by default. Turning it off is basically a Self-Imposed Challenge, which shouldn't be taken into account for this

If you mean that Rocket in Mt. Moon with a Level 16 Raticate, then I could see that being cut for not actually being a boss. I've also come around to seeing Candice qualify after reading about her Snow Cloak Froslass.

I cut both Brock and that Raticate user.

Raticate man is a Boss in Mook Clothing, if anything.

I'll cut the X and Y section under that reason Karx, but should I restore the Raticate user then?

No. He's not a boss, just a exceptionally powerful mook.

Not sure Wattson should be on here. He's no problem if you brought a Fire/Fighting type or Water/Ground type (guess what two of the starters were), or have a Fighting type (also available by this point) or something that does neutral damage against Electric types (every other type), or are at a decent enough level.

Also most of this entry is just describing his moveset without really saying why it's so hard.

If X and Y is getting cut, than anything relating to ORAS should also be cut since I believe they turn the EXP Share on by default as well.

Ah, okay. I cut everything from X and Y but the Super Training entries since I think they can work as examples. I also deleted the ORAS mentions, but kept the Pokemon Contest entries since those don't rely on battling.

I've never played Gen III so I'm not sure how much value my word holds here, but I'm not sure if Flannery really deserves her entry. Torkoal is stupid slow and has bad Special Defense. I think most players would probably kill it with a Water move before it got the chance to make use of anything listed on the page. Her other Pokemon might make things more difficult, but if memory serves they're mostly unevolved and thus have crummy stats.

Also, Jasmine probably needs to go. Steelix again is really slow, has bad special defense, and is weak to water. It also lacks a Ground move no matter what generation you're playing, so if someone's really having trouble with that fight they could just grab a Tentacruel from the waters just outside Olivine and use that against the Steelix. They might need something else for the Magnemites, but those are Magnemites and have crummy stats all around because they're unevolved.

So Wattson, Flannery, and Jasmine might need to be cut. Anyone else agree?

Sounds good. Flannery's only difficult if you let her set up Sunny Day and try chipping away at stuff with Slash like an idiot. like i did

Flannery always gave me trouble back in the day, and I had Marshtomp. Can't remember what I did for her when I played ORAS, though.

I don't remember Flannery ever giving me that much trouble but I suppose we could get a few more opinions on that, maybe from someone who's played gen iii more recently.

I think tate and liza can stay because I remember that battle being annoying thanks to the sunny day from solrock meaning surf is much less effective at dealing with them.

Sorry Karx, I guess I should have waited for you first. Well, now it's my turn to bring up someone worth cutting, the Champion of Red/Blue. He doesn't strike me as overly difficult by Final Boss standards like Cynthia and Ghetsis do, even if he has an Alakazam. What do the rest of you guys think?
