You know, you can just say "This photography might violate fair use law" instead of going for euphemisms.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe wording didn't come to mind, actually.
Moon◊If we were to replace the image, I have a few ideas in mind:
- Zits◊ (panels 2 and 3)
- PHD (panels 1 and 2, or just panel 2)
- Sinfest (non-winged variant; panels 3 and 4, or just panel 4)
The last two panels of 4.1 are pretty good.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."^ I like those as well.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"The last two panels of the Zits cartoon are great. The last two panels of the Sinfest strip are good for a non-standard take.
I like the Zits version.
(Annoyed grunt)It's a good image, although I've got concerns that using 2/3 of a newspaper image might also violate Fair Use law. I'm really fuzzy on where the line is drawn, these days.
Moon◊In the case of a 3-panel strip, if no better option comes along and it takes two panels to adequately get the trope across, then so be it.
Maybe this is nitpicking, but wouldn't it be better to find an image that illustrates a common expression other than "When pigs fly"? It would show the breadth of the trope better.
It works. Looks a bit fuzzy to me, though.
Check out my fanfiction!^^^ If someone can find a non-single panel comic of something like Hell freezing over◊ that could work, if not then 4/13 is good enough.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"I don't suppose this counts?
(Annoyed grunt)13 is currently my favorite.
Actually, I think 16 is my favorite, currently.
Even though it's clearly faked (the icicles on the top are exact mirrors of the ones on the bottom, upon close examination), it's still pretty hilarious.

Moon◊I don't get 16.
"When Hell freezes over". An English-language idiom equivalent to "when pigs fly" - an expression implying that a prior sentence or clause in the conversation is ludicrously unlikely to actually happen any time soon.
Better-quality version of 16.◊

Moon◊13 > others.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I still like the comic better, because 16 is pretty lazy.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I agree, because the comics at least tells us that something unlikely has indeed happened, and is not just Visual Pun of the idiom.

The sign doesn't illustrate more than just the left panel of 13.

Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
I know the moratorium is still in place, but given Willbyr went into mod mode to say a thread on this probably should be created, I'm making a thread. (Although there's not "copyright concerns" reason, so I guess "Needs Help" will have to do.)
In short: the current image is from a T-shirt that is still being actively sold. It may not be in our best interest to continue using the image.
To replace it, Willbyr proposed this◊ Magic: The Gathering card showcasing what appears to be a flying elephant. I'm not huge on it, but it's better than nothing.
Other than that... well, there's no shortage of flying pig images on Google Image Search, although I'm wary that just yanking one from there will wind us up exactly where we started, only with a different image causing the problem. Something from a work might be preferable - like Willbyr's suggestion, or this◊ apparently from a GEICO commercial.
