Drumming up interest for a fun semi-light RP based around science and magic, the premise of which is all the different Gods and Goddesses of different myths such as Thor, Anubis, Amaterasu and others having lived for a long time, up until around now.

It will be a bit farther than Modern Day, but not like full on Cyberpunk, you know, just 20XX. The Gods have lost a lot, but not all of their powers, due to not having anywhere as many followers.

The RP would be mostly freeroam, like the Superhero and Supervillain R Ps we like to do, with you playing a God or Goddess, a known one from myth and not an OC, doing your own thing around the big city of Los Angeles, the City of Angels. There will mostly be character interation, and fighting if you want to do that.

The RP would have villains, and fun things for us to do, hopefully other people would create situations. Dionysus could own a winery, etc. There isn't exactly a masquerade. The Gods are open about themselves, but in this modern time, people are cynical, and prone to usually not really worship them like you would a God, but most of them, if there are open about themselves, usually become celebrities, especially if they are a well-known god. But they might be subject to protest and criticism, even from the people of their worshipers. Basically, like Thor in the MCU.

The sign up won't be too complicated, I just want to gauge interest and do a little world-building first.

Hell this is what I've been looking for all this time, I'm in.

Hm, a god from mythology eh? I'm going to have to do some reading on that, luckily I have a book for Greek Mythology.

@This Guy

Sorry, only conventional gods from the world's ancient myths and religions that have been worshiped/revered in real life.

We have a good amount of interest. I will work on a sign-up sheet today.

That's interesting, I'm reading on the origins of Christianity right now and I might be able to act as him if I get through the pages (its about 1000 and I'm only at like page 100 so it's a problem...).

Abrahamic God is not allowed. Still too known, too powerful.

And no, if it's a different myth or religion, it's a different god. You can't say that are the same.

  • Name: Hephaestus
  • Alias(es):
    • Amphigúeis, "the lame one" (Ἀμφιγύεις)
    • Kullopodíōn, "the halting" (Κυλλοποδίων)
    • Khalkeús, "coppersmith" (Χαλκεύς)
    • Klutotékhnēs, "renowned artificer" (Κλυτοτέχνης)
    • Polúmētis, "shrewd, crafty" or "of many devices" (Πολύμητις)
    • Aitnaîos, "Aetnaean" (Αἰτναῖος), as in "Mount Aetna"
  • Domain: Crafts, Metals, Fire, Volcanoes.
  • Sex/Gender: Male
  • Age: A couple thousand years? A little younger than the rest of the Pantheon since he's Hera's child.
  • Occupation: Hephaestus works at Hephty in his free time, a mechanics shop. He primarily services cars, but also does repairs for any other mechanical device that gets brought in. In his spare time he builds robots and posts them on his blog.
  • Appearance: Hephaestus is a big guy, but not particularly tall. Around 5'8", he is very broadly built, with a wide chest and a bit of a gut. His limbs are well-muscled, but his left foot is on backwards, giving him a pronounced limp. He is cleanshaven and bald, with piercing orange eyes and a large nose. He wears a brown mechanic's jumpsuit with the name Hephaestus on it at work, and a lot of cheap flannel and jeans outside work, not changing into anything better at formal gatherings.
  • Personality: Hephaestus went through a lot of shit back in the day, and came out of it beaten-down and jaded. He's working on it, though; Hephaestus sees the modern world, sees how fucked up it is, and yeah, maybe he can do something about it. He enjoys suiting up in one of his machines to wreak havoc on some bastard he thinks deserves it, but tempers that with the knowledge that he's gotta be smart about it and make sure his violence has a point. He targets large businesses or other powerful people, people he thinks could be threats but that the cops would never take in, who have committed crimes against people without actually breaking the law. He just wants to move past all the cringey stories people have about him, because this is the future or whatever.
  • Abilities/Powers:
    • Fire: Even now Hephaestus is able to control fire. However, his powers have waned so that he is left with an essentialized form of his fire control that mirrors the power of a bellows. He can't move fire around, but he can focus on a fire and have it suddenly and powerfully flare into life, doubling or tripling its size and intensity.
    • Crafts: Hephaestus's powers of craftsmanship have been augmented by a few millenia of actual training, giving him unparalleled talent and skill with metalworking. He has in particular gotten a lot of experience in mechanics as the field advanced, and builds giant robots as a hobby.
    • Metals: Hephaestus is a human metal detector. He can sense any metal within a hundred yards of himself, as well as knowing its exact composition.
  • Assets:
    • VULCAN: A smaller suit of powered armor, seven feet tall. Armed with one twin wrist-mounted machine-gun, a net-gun on the other arm (firing That Net), and great strength, VULCAN is able to hold up a collapsing house if necessary or take a whole battalion of machine gun fire and be fine. It runs on a solar-powered electrical battery, allowing it to be easily charged and redeployed.
    • AETNA: A huge robot about 30 feet tall, armed with a back-mounted flamethrower and a arm-mounted railcannon. Hephaestus keeps this guy under wraps unless things get really serious. The arm possesses enormous strength and the armor can take a tank round with only a little slip in balance, but its nuclear cell is one hell of a guzzler, only able to run for two hours before shutting down.
    • Hephty. Provides him regular work from people needing their shit fixed.
    • A comfortable home above Hephty.
    • A nice tough orange sedan.
    • A hangar a mile or two outside town, where he stores AETNA and VULCAN.
  • Backstory: Hephaestus ruled as a just, if somewhat angry god. Born deformed from Hera, then cast out, then still appreciated for his craftsmanship, Hephaestus learned to just sort of deal with the bullshit in life. He got married to Aphrodite, but had few illusions about being able to keep someone so out of his league tied down to him; her cheating on him was just one of a long line of episodes in which Hephaestus was repeatedly humiliated and defeated, acting just as ugly as he appeared. Seeing the world was moving on, though, Hephaestus didn't mind all that much when the faith started to die down. If he was going to have to go down with all the rest of Olympus, then so be it. He was delighted to learn he didn't die with the faith, however, and gladly lived a humble life for a millenia or two, free of all the bullshit of Olympian politics, free to practice his art. Also free to move past all that ugly shit from when he was a real God. As the gods started acting again, living lives as celebrities or whatever, Hephaestus adapted again, starting up a small car shop in town. As life got worse, though, Hephaestus felt like he couldn't stand by. Corporate fat cats and corrupt cops acting like they were untouchable, when he knew Zeus, he knew real untouchability. He modified two robots he'd built in his off time, VULCAN and AETNA, and picked up a new hobby: murdering assholes who thought they could get away with shit. Seemed to be working out just fine so far.

Potentially interested in this.

Would the Demiurge count as a valid option, or is that too close to the Judeo-Christian God/invalid for other reasons?

Name: Mummu

Alias(es):

The Embodiment of Logo

The Keeper

Spawn of Tiamat and Apsu

Domain: Forbidden Knowledge (Misinterpreted by the Sumerians and Babylonians as the Mind)

Sex/Gender: Male

Age: Time Abyss, son of Tiamat and Apsu, so probably a little older than creation

Occupation: Video Game Commentator, Internet Hub Owner, E-Celebrity

Appearance: He's shown different appearances over the years, but his favorite is that of a young human male with black hair, and seemingly... empty blue eyes. He prefers to wear a black hoodie, dark grey pants with a white stripe down the sides, and long, archaic-looking boots.

Personality: He tends to be pretty calm and collected, however laid back. He's also got a thing for sarcasm

Abilities/Powers:

Forbidden Knowledge: He knows quite a lot, to the point that it is basically it's own power

Assets:

The Infinite Library: It's not a library anymore. It's a very popular (semi-humor) website containing multiple articles on dark knowledge, forbidden ideals, and "selfies" of his true self (more lethal than it sounds). It also has a video channel on Cracked.com

The Black Book: A device that takes the form of the most powerful information device in the current year - for many millennium, it was a book, but now it takes the form of a tablet-laptop convertible

The Hub: The search engine, forums, and chat channel of the Infinite Library

The Infinite Soft Drink: A permenantly cold, unspillable, infinite soft drink. Why the hell would he make this? He once tried every drug in the known cosmos. Whatever happened, he made this.

Backstory: Mummu was the first son of Tiamat and Apsu, and according to myth was locked away in a prison. What myth doesn't tell is how he converted it into the infinite library, and lived in it for many years, even as his religion started to fall

One of the first "new gods" he heard of was the worship of a single monotheist. He was very impressed to see something older than his parents, or himself. He started watching these other religions form, and saw these other gods come out of hiding - he began writing of their stories. The story of the Titans and Olympians, the death of Osiris by his former friend Set, he recorded all of it to the last detail - even as his power truly began weakening, he continued recording details. He eventually turned his full focus to humanity in 1840, where he recorded the Civil War, the World Wars, the Cold War, even Vietnam, he was there. When the internet was invented, he finally could show his work to others, including forbidden knowledge that could drive you insane. The infinite library was consumed, and his black book took the form of a laptop. He was free to travel, and placed his site up. It blew up very quickly, though some visitors had to have a talk with whitecoats. He found a suiting war epic in the Iraq War, and George Bush was surely a good antagonist, even if he was too much of a Villain Sue in his eyes, and ISIS vs. the world makes the best Evil vs. Evil story he ever heard. The war between Pahkistan and Iraq was fun for him to write. The Arab-Israeli conflict was really a true war epic - lots of death, heroism, ect. ect. Cold War II's really fun - it's all political backstabbing and lies. Anonymous was a non-violet story that really would make you think about morality. Donald Trump is sure to be a nice horror story

But those were just wars and political conflicts. His real favorite thing about the 21st century were the advancements - the technology and science. Mankind was better than he thought. But if he were to help his former worshipers, some people just have to go insane...
