Previous thread. I'm not sure that either suggestion is better.
Hmmm, a lot of those candidates look a lot better than what I suggested, to be honest.
Perhaps we can consider any of those that were turned down, and see if they can fare any better now.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI think the new suggestions don't add anything visually. That said, I'm not sure what the current really shows of the trope.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"I don't think the current illustrates the trope at all. It looks more like a whimsical alternative reality.
Not digging either, as they rely entirely on the dialogue plus the first one is just ugly. The current is fine, if flawed.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I may check around to see if I can find any better ideas. And I agree, that first one is atrocious in appearance, so I don't mind it being shoved aside.
Unless if no one else can come up with a better idea or if I can't think of anything better, I may suggest BUPKIS, on the grounds that the current is a single panel comic (as I stated in the OP) and it is a bit vague in portraying the trope.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportWe have permission from the artist to use the pic (as I believe was established in the previous thread) so that's not an issue.
^^According to the previous thread the image is used with the artist's blessing though, so consistency might be the only valid reason to pull it for being single panel.
EDIT:

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"If permission was granted, then that's one condition down. I guess the issue now is whether it does fit in this trope.
If it does, keep. If not, nix it.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportPerhaps a comparison of King Xerxes◊ in 300 with the historical Xerxes◊? That movie runs on Rule of Cool, so it's clear that they were using Artistic License.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"^ Could work.
I like the idea, from me.
Yep, that will work.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope Reportfor Xerxes, as the current is more humorous.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I prefer the current.
Check out my fanfiction!I like Xerxes. The comparison seems far more stark.
(That particular example from the movie also bugged me a lot personally)
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.I have to wonder whether the Crystalinks image is based on historical information.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell, this is what Xerxes really looked like according to a stone carving:
(Annoyed grunt)300 example arranged horizontally:
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Suggested caption: "Totally the same guy."

Sure. Slightly different layout, though: [1]◊ (I made the frames the same size, and put the older one on the left.)
Also, should that be the comic book version of Xerxes?
PS: Strike the sinkhole in the caption suggestion. Links to Sarcasm Mode shouldn't be used that way. (And sarcasm is poor style anyway. Better to just say what you mean: "These are supposed to be the same guy.")

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Looks like that will work. However, it's a tough call between the Comic Book version and the film version...

she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI actually like the film depiction of Xerxes better, the comic book version is a little too busy for my liking at that small size.
I like the film version better as well.
As it stands, the current image is a single panel comic, which is a bad idea for an image. For replacements, I am considering two options that are listed as examples, though I am open to any other options:
Educomix: World War II between Ireland and the South Pole, ninth panel.
Tank McNamara: misidentifying Vandals as from Norse mythology, second panel.
