Super Mario Maker

Well, The Pokemon Company is a joint venture between Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures, Inc., so that's a bit redundant. But yeah, Nintendo has to negotiate with those two companies for any use of Pokemon outside of their series. From what I understand, each aspect of the original games has to be negotiated separately - the sounds are licensed distinct from the characters themselves. It goes both ways - Game Freak can't just put Pokemon references in Tembo the Badass Elephant without permission from the other two, and Creatures, Inc. couldn't just slip references into Mother 3 without touching base first (though I suspect Nintendo wouldn't have minded as much).

Oh shit. I remember that game! Barely know anything about it though.

Made 3 levels for each of the starter Pokemon :) They're all themed around type disadvantages.

The whole Pokémon licensing conundrum reminds me of Alien X from Ben10. Even if you're the most powerful and formidable being in the universe (or, in the case of Pókemon, one of the biggest money printers in gaming history), there has to be an internal agreement for its use and potential, or else it becomes ironically useless

I have bookmarked all recent troper levels since my last upload. Things got ugly fast with the one I had uploaded so I deleted it. I'll upload something new in my next session.

I'm at 88 stars right now, which is a good signal considering that I still have seven unused level slots.

Started playing a bit, but my heart is just not in it anymore. I played other people's levels, including those that got lots of stars, and I'm just not seeing anything that amazes or inspires me. The severe lack of things to make might well be a big part of it.

I must say I congratulate Nintendo. They succeeded in making the game easy to learn how to use and play, but at the same time, it's so limited that it easily sets up a possible sequel, which could expand upon it massively.

I wouldn't write off the game just yet. We seen Nintendo add more elements to the game, so it's only a question of when will we get more.

Also discovered that a Bob-omb that explodes near coins will make them fall down, like a POW Block.

I do hope they add something new soon. Stuff that can easily be implemented via shaking. New costumes are fun and all, but I'm not the kind of player who makes SMB 1 courses too often, I'm more of a 3 / World / U editor.

EDIT: Also, I haven't been able to check the recent bookmarked levels because I've been having severe connection issues. I had tried to upload a new course of mine, no dice. I hope third time's the charm.

At one point it splits into three parts (from left to right: Normal, Hard, Easy). The boss battle against Bowser involves a funny and clever strategy.

Got a new level uploaded, did it mostly out of boredom. Bob-ombs are the focus.

I really need to start playing this game as frequently as in the past again. Roaring Aircraft hasn't even been finished yet. (That's the part three sequel to Quiet Mountain Town.)

@3030 Well, in the case of The Pokemon Company, the goal is to make sure that Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures, Inc. all make money fairly. It'd be very easy for Nintendo, as the most powerful company in the partnership, to take the lion's share of everything if there wasn't an agreement. Nintendo probably has to agree to a smaller share in cases like Super Mario Maker because they're going to make their profits on the game regardless.

Saw this on the game's drinking game page and laughed.

"An airship level/area that was made without taking the automatic vertical scrolling into account, for instance one with a low floor that tends to get hidden."

I played a level that was like that on purpose. It was called something like "Your Worst Enemy: The Camera."

Somebody here made that. I remember playing that course too.

I was just about to say that I made a level that did that on purpose, but you beat me to it.

I was actually going to make a "Mario vs. Camera" level at some point. Though I'm sad to hear people here have done it already, I thought I was being special.

The costume's design is incredibly good. Almost looks like a character sprite from Pocky & Rocky.
