I'm not really sure what you mean?

I meant that intuition is just a word, so it might help to define it, because there are so many possible definitions. To me it's a word for a subjective experience, so what one person calls intuitive (or what even a past-self considers intuitive) might be a different sort of intuition than later or for somebody else.

Intuition in storytelling is basically the reason I started Moonflowers. My main story's theme is how The Fair Folk laugh in the face of human rules, so I do very minimal plotting or world-building to help with the tangled Xanatos Speed Chess between the gods and The Wild Hunt.

But it's also a Fairy Tale, so everything works out. In fact, my female protagonist wins the Karmic Jackpot because her father kills the Wild Hunt's leader, and Hades offers them the fairy's kingdom as compensation for the hell they went through. Hades is the god of the dead AND the god of wealth, so deciding an unpopular dead king's successor is well within his authority.

I couldn't work this all out without knowing a crapton of fairy-tale and mythology tropes. But if I hadn't written whatever the fuck I wanted within the bounds of the plot, my story wouldn't have nearly as much Xanatos Speed Chess and Loophole Abuse.

So, "Intuition Vs. Planning" is rather like the debate of "Worldbuilding Vs. Plot": Both are important, but the exact proportion depends on the story and the writer's preferences.

[up][up]By intuition I mean something that is not based on conscious reason or forethought. Impulsive creation, if you like; the opposite of deliberate formula.

I was partially responding (very broadly) to Gault's assumption that:

as far as I know there should be certain methods that every successful author uses that work with the vast majority of people to get them to care about your writing.

Where does intuition come in? [up]Probably right that it depends on the story/author's preferences and can vary a lot, and the main thing is that it works somehow.
