The machines eventually get so smart and self-autonomous, they hunt humans for sport as well as their own self preservation and the idea that we (the humans) are obsolete.
These two may literally be more bark than bite, but they are no less tenacious than everyone else.The Precious Puppies are introduced into a tiny city apartment and tear the place apart.
The scientist kills many for their experiments, which don't even have a true purpose. They're put in jail for life.
Thanks to the big guy getting taken out, this causes the team to have a severe mental-breakdown. The Lancer begins to freak out and is thinking about quitting, the Tagalong Kid loses all motivation and wants to go back home while the leader watches and does nothing, causing them to have several moments of Betrayal by Inaction, and so-on-so-fourth. The main villain actually gets bored since they were looking forward to fight the big guy the most and decides to either sweep the floor, causing the team to break up forever or focus on destroying other heroes looking to destroy them, since there isn't a challenge anymore, and therefore, no point to fighting.
On the plus-side, now the team isn't being swarmed by mooks and/or the villain 24/7! On the downside, now there is no team...

The person has a hard time moving on, as the person they were pining is one of the few people they were compatible with, leaving them to die bitter and lonely.

The character with Blue-and-Orange Morality is widely believed by the characters, if not outright confirmed to have some sort of mental disorder, which is why no one tends to listen to them and they get the mental help that they need.
