Poor Image: Hand Seals

The current pic on Hand Seals has some noticeable artifacting. For replacements, I was considering these: 1◊, 2◊ (might need permission). Lots of options, these were the first two that really grabbed my attention.

Four of the panels from the first would work well. Numerically it would look best with the first four (unless edited), arranged in a square. Also would look less distracting to use the same hands in all panels.

Can we edit that first one to be 3x4 vertical? That would be good I think.

1.2 would need a caption, in my mind. Not sure if I prefer it above any cut of 1.1.

I really like the idea of showing several of the positions, rather than just one. Any of the smaller images in 1.1 could be collaged into either a 4x4 or 3x3 layout. I think I'm more partial to a 3x3.

I think it's enough with four. It's enough to get the point across, and with more than that it just gets busier.

How about the real handseals? And not the fake stuff that Naruto made up based on the Chinese zodiac.

The 9 mantras are used in and have meanings in Taoism, Shinto, Ninjitsu, and Buddhism with each seal having a different meaning in each culture. These specific ones make up the bulk of the trope as well, even The Other Wiki lists them

This site is about fiction, though, so I find being real worse than being fictional.

They are used IN fiction. Even Naruto's Guy has used them on occasion, he can't use the standard ones in the work.

These are used by Rei in the Sailor Moon anime fitting that she is a Shinto Miko, they also have been used in the modern Ninja Gaiden and the ninja in Samurai Warriors use them. Heck the vast majority of the examples on the page are these specific 9 mantra. It's a real life thing that migrated to fiction with added mysticism.

So? That doesn't make it a better illustration of the trope. And the usual argument is that we want images from a work, rather than stand-alone images.

Hand Seals from Naruto seems better than Hand Seals from real life.

How about a compromise?◊ I know it needs some modifying, but it seems to me to be a real hand seal being used by a fictional character. I could be mistaken, though.

Action lines make it unclear. I'm for the real seals. I don't see what the difference is between the two other than one being real to life and one being made up and I'm always partial to accuracy.

If you're partial to accuracy, you should prefer the fictional ones, because this wiki is about fiction.

My vote's for 8. The real seals are referenced more often than any fictional ones.
